The CW, which has Reign in its second season, is developing another period drama with roots in Western Europe – The Illusionist, based on the 2006 movie starring Ed Norton. The project, which will change the setting from Vienna to New York, comes from Yari Film Group, the company that produced and distributed the film; Electus; and CBS TV Studios.
Written by Mark Hudis (True Blood), the CW adaptation will take place in turn-of-the-century New York. It centers on a renowned illusionist who returns home from a decade in prison to find his wife married to the ruthless crime boss who framed him. Posing as an underling in the crime boss’ organization, the illusionist uses cunning magic to pull off elaborate heists, rising quickly through the organization in order to take down the boss from the inside and win back his one true love.

This really doesn't sound like something the CW would do...
ReplyDeleteSounds like this would better suit a cable network.
Stop it. Stop making movies into TV shows. Unless your the people behind the Fargo TV series which was awesome.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though every week at least 2 movies seem to get put into development. Last week we had Say Anything which was thankfully killed off immediately and also Uncle Buck. Now this week we have The Mortal Instruments, Underworld and now this.
Someone, somewhere has to put an end to this. Does anyone truly want TV versions of these films? I don't think so.
I want a TV series of The Mortal Instruments because it should have been one in the first place.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteMonster in law is also in development at fox
ReplyDeleteThis just sounds like a utter disaster in the making.
ReplyDeleteah another one "winning back his true love"
ReplyDeleteno thanks
I want tv versions of movies that should have been great but failed to deliver if the movie was already good i don't see the need for it
ReplyDeleteThe end sentence kills me. He spent 10 years in prison, his ex-wife is married to the crook who framed him, but he wants to win her back? Seriously.
ReplyDeleteoh dear god!
ReplyDeleteI really thought CW moved past this star-crossed true love thingy!I guess not!
ReplyDeleteSurprised is CW. Honestly,. looks like all the projects that CBS wants to roll with but doesn't fit they line up get pushed to CW, like its their "cable network". Maybe would be better if Warner got the signal of CW, and CBS became CBS' cble network, I think both would be very happy!
ReplyDeleteUnderworld? Where? How? When? *___________________*
ReplyDeleteA Sweeney's vibe would be more interesting, you know? When he's decided to get revenge on the guy and almost kills his own daughter not knowing
ReplyDeleteLove the movie hoping it get pick up but it sound like HBO or Showtime should pick it up doesn't seem like a CW show and if does get pick up
ReplyDeleteJames Lafferty as Edward Norton character
Bethany Joy Lenz as the girl
Grayson Mouch play the crime boss
Lol now the illusionist? ... All these movie to TV adaptations need to stop
ReplyDeleteNot too sure about this since this is the CW, but if they don't "teenage" the cast, then it could be an interesting series...
ReplyDeleteThe movie was amazing, but unfortunately this adaptation of the plot sounds pretty bad unless it has the same twist as the movie, in which case that really takes a lot of the suspense out of the show.
ReplyDeleteMeh...
