I've always felt like Felicity was better suited around Barry. Their dynamic always just seemed more natural - both a little awkward which helps too, and I don't mean as a ship. There's a very good platonic relationship there. Wish she could move show.
Looks like an episode high on the funny. Felicity fits in very well here and I'm really enjoying her dynamic with Barry. The EP's did say recently that light funny banter is more their prefered style of writing. A nice little morsel to entice crossover fans before the big one in a few more weeks.
"I'm not comfortable with that excuse" "JUST GO" hahahahahahaha really Barry I wouldn't rely on Felicity to come up with a good cover story, actually compared to her past cover stories that one was really good LOL I love those two together they are fun and cute AS FRIENDS so lets keep it that way plz. Can't wait to see the double date it looks fun and I'm excited to see Felicity and Iris becoming friends.
There are other characters that easily did that. Barry for one, Ray Palmer. She hasn't been the only one and it's not difficult to come up with new characters that can brighten up the show.
You do realize that the two "easy" examples you picked have their entrance through Felicity?
IMO Creating a character that resonates with fans and is all of the complementary things Felicity is on Arrow is the opposite of easy. I loved Barry in the Arrow cave, but we've got to hope that the support team on the Flash gets their own vibe going. It's still early and we don't really know them yet.
My examples were limited because I'm not denying the show is limited to positive characters like Felicity. My point was that they've wrote them and they can be wrote again. None of those two characters DEPEND on Felicity, just that they work well with her - back to my original point that Felicty feels so much better around Barry. She isn't the same as she was in S1/early S2 unfortunately and her attitude around him brings back good memories. Just my opinion.
I hope I'm not coming off to shippy right now, but Barry and Felicity have some serious chemistry going on but I know she has to go where the arrow is:)
They depended on Felicity to join the team and to show that humor and positivity. They aren't brightening Oliver's darkness,, they are magnifying Felicity's light. Ray isn't talking to Oliver. Barry would have been sent home. Alone they are potential threats, behind Felicity they are people. She is the trusting, open, heart on her sleeve, let people in, believe in people force on the show.
Yes, positive characters *can* be written (I still maintain writing one as good as Felicity is awfully hard), but it would be easier to write a new character (or flesh out an existing one) on The Flash than a replacement Felicity on Arrow. Any replacement would necessarily suffer by comparison and bear the brunt of the resentment for people who miss Felicity and the Team Arrow vibe.
It wasn't necessary, they could have just made Oliver change into how he is in the comics over time and it wouldn't be so broody. But again, there's no denying that Felicity brings the light to the shows darkness. And I'm not saying her changing shows is ever going to happen because it won't. I'm just saying that I'd like it better. She started as one of my favourite characters and she's slowly turning into one of my least favourites because she's went from being a comedy factor to feeling like an on-off love interest of Oliver and her humour isn't as light-hearted any more. That changes around Barry. But like I said, just how I feel. Her moving shows would have major consequences.
"It wasn't necessary, they could have just made Oliver change." Haha. Rewriting Oliver's character seems like a monumental undertaking.
I'm sorry that fans have changed how you see Felicity. That's rough, try to block them out of your own opinions, because I think that maybe those fans' love of Felicity in that role has effected your way of seeing her. Fundamentally on the show, she is more independent now than she has been since she joined the team.
But I think your argument isn't very effective from writing standpoint. And frankly, Oliver's jealousy around Barry made her more of a love interest than anything else. And bringing her on a show simply to be a love interest seems kinda the opposite of your point. Ray seems like he's taking her out of Oliver's orbit for a time, so maybe you can focus on that.
I didn't say to rewrite his character, just develop him in a way they changed him from a playboy teen to a young man on a survival misson. He's going to be broody when he returns to Starling but that doesn't mean he can't find the sense of humour and the light-heartedness that he has in the comics. Arrow can keep its dark theme with a character that is less Batman 2.0.
This has been made a bigger deal than I intended, but I just enjoy seeing her around Barry more than I do around Oliver. It takes her back to the S1 persona that I loved.
He can find it. Probably he will find it (except Stephen Amell isn't good with comic timing). But changing him into a lighthearted playboy IS rewriting the character, because he isn't there yet. It's on his path, but not who Oliver is.
I think Felicity is still the same girl she was in S1. I think the fan focus on her plotlines has changed. She was good with Barry. But she's good with everyone--it's part of her charm.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Felicity is probably the sexiest nerd on television lol. She rocks every dress she puts on.

ReplyDeleteIf she did Arrow would become unbearable she balances the dark and the drama in it.
