The Broad Squad - Female Cop Period Procedural gets Put Pilot at ABC

In their first collaboration, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire has teamed with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment for Broad Squad, a period female cop procedural, which has received a put pilot commitment from ABC. ABC Studios, where Fake Empire is under a deal, is producing.

Set in 1978, the series is described as a fictionalized account of the graduating class of Boston’s first female patrol officers. Dubbed “The Broad Squad” by the local press, they arrived at a tumultuous time in Boston’s history, marked by corruption within the police force and a heightened organized crime presence in the city. Navigating rival neighborhoods as well as the conflicting attitudes toward them from everyone, they find themselves tested both on and off duty.

Bess Wohl, actress-writer and graduate of Boston-based Harvard University, will write the script and serve as co-executive producer. Kaplan executive produces alongside Fake Empire’s Schwartz, Savage and Len Goldstein. Alexandra Lydon, who brought the idea to Kaplan, will serve as a producer.
