The Scene: Malcolm trains Thea
Nirat Anop: I really enjoyed Malcolm Merlyn's few sentiments of wisdom about overcoming pain and the power of the mind. Later on in the episode Thea challenges Malcolm to a sword fight, which was shot with great precision you could feel the tension and John Barrowman and Willa Holland did a great job executing the fight. Thea's new found physical strength really intrigues me and I'm looking forward to seeing more kickass Thea Queen!
BOARDWALK EMPIRE, "Friendless Child", October 19, 2014, Actors: Steve Buscemi, Gretchen Mol and more, The Scene: Nucky opens Gillian's letter
Darth Locke: Nucky opens Gillian's letter/montage & voiceover of adult Gillian/and final shot of child Gillian on the Boardwalk. This final season of Boardwalk Empire has been a great character study of Nucky Thompson and I'm very pleased with the flashbacks adding weight to the final determination of whom Nucky really is via this collision course with both Gillian and Luciano. Can't believe the final episode of this great complicated period gangster drama will be gone forever after this weekend!

The Scene: Casey visits Jim at the end
Ben Norton: Casey tells Jim that they are going to go through his books in the morning. This scene showed to us the possible conflict that may occur between Casey and Jim, which will be great to see.
CONSTANTINE, "Non Est Asylum", October 24, 2014, Actors: Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau, The Scene: Constantine asks Manny to open the gate
Nirat Anop: I really enjoyed this scene visually, the rain drops frozen in time was beautiful, even when Constantine moved them with his hand before they fell was very realistic to me. The special effects of the pilot, for me, were quite good particularly the train sequence where it turns to wisps of wind. In combination with the special effects, I thought Matt Ryan was brilliant as John Constantine, he played the part with such dedication, his mannerisms were spot on. The closing scene with his hands a flame were also really cool.
CRIMINAL MINDS, "The Itch", October 22, 2014, Actors: Thomas Gibson and more
The Scene: Hotchner talks about what profiling is
Laura Markus: Aaron Hotchner - reminding us what profiling is. He said, "I'm trained to see what's in front of me." [...] "I'm also trained to listen to what people say." The way Thomas Gibson delivers his lines is always on point and sassy. This was no exception. This scene was ultimately made better by Hotch being a badass.
GREY'S ANATOMY, "Bend & Break", October 23, 2014, Actors: Sara Ramirez, Jessica Capshaw
The Scene: Callie and Arizona break up
Klutzy girl: I love them together and they've broken up before but Sara and Jessica were amazing during this scene. The mounting realization of horror on Arizona's face broke my heart. While I hope they can repair their marriage, being apart is probably the best for them both right now. They've been through so much and need to find themselves again. And I'm excited to see who they are apart.
HAWAII FIVE 0, "Hoʻoilina (Legacy)", October 24, 2014, Actors: Alex O'Loughlin, Mirrah Foulkes, The Scenes: Steve visits his father's grave & Steve talks with Ellie about his father's car
Darth Locke: Opening scene of Steve going to visit his father's grave. Between the song, the lighting, and the beautiful trees, this scene just was really well shot. One of the first times H50 moved me.
Ben Norton: Steve talks with Ellie about his fathers car and when they might see each other again. This scene was exceptional, this really showed to us the possibility of a new love interest for Steve.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "We're Not Friends", October 23, 2014, Actors: Katie Findlay, Tom Verica, Viola Davis, The Scene: Sam questions Rebecca
Daniel van der Veer: The fallout from Annalise's discovery of Sam's affair was quite interesting. Annalise wanted to make sure no one else knew, so she had Sam question Rebecca to see whether Rebecca would recognize him. That made for quite an intense scene. You could feel the tension between Sam and Annalise as she was listening to the conversation. The conversation later went south when Rebecca discovers Sam's affair with Lila. She told Wes and he confrontes Annalise, and I can't wait to see how this moves the story forward.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "A Hen in the Wolf House", October 21, 2014, Actors: Adrianne Palicki, Elizabeth Henstridge and more, The Scene: Bobbi Morse rescues Simmons
Justyna Kubica: Now, that's an awesome introduction! I couldn't wait to meet Bobbi since I've heard so many great things about the character, not to mention the fact that I'm a fan of Adrianne Palicki. And it was an absolutely great start. Bobbi Morse is already interesting, strong, fun and works well with the rest of the cast. The moment when she reveals her true identity and takes down all those Hydra agents to help Jemma was brilliant. Also, a great action sequence! Surely makes an impression. Now, I only have one question: can we keep her? Hopefully that's a yes. Kudos to the cast & crew!
Klutzy girl: Bobbi Morse blows her cover and starts taking down Hydra agents. I was excited for this character based on what my friends who read the comics have said but now I love her. Bobbi kicking ass and taking names was awesome, and I hope Adrianne will be upgraded to a regular soon (along with BJ Britt and Henry Simmons).
NCIS, "The San Dominick", October 21, 2014, Actors: Sean Murray, Mark Harmon
The Scene: McGee sits in Gibbs' chair
Daniel van der Veer: It was fun to see McGee as 'McGibbs' when he was in charge at DC due to the absence of Gibbs and Tony. To see him sit in Gibbs' chair was a fun little moment, and as always, it turns out Gibbs was standing right behind him. This was classic NCIS!
ONCE UPON A TIME, "The Apprentice", October 19, 2014, Actors: Jennifer Morrison, Elizabeth Mitchell, Colin O'Donoghue, The Scenes: Emma chases The Snow Queen & Emma and Hook go on a date
Nirat Anop: Emma chases The Snow Queen. Those brief seconds of seeing Elizabeth Mitchell were really awesome, she's such an intriguing character, I really want to know more but before we can her ice trail vanishes. Darth Locke: Emma and Hook finally go on a date...
PERSON OF INTEREST, "Prophets", October 21, 2014, Actors: Michael Emerson, Amy Acker and more, The Scenes: Finch and Root talk in the hotel & Root's shootout with the Blonde assassin & The final scene
Justyna Kubica: Like I'm sure I've already said, possibly more than once, I just love these moments with Finch and Root when they talk about what the Machine means to them and how they look at things from two different perspectives. It's always interesting and it feels like we're always learning something new about them. Root is not a good person, but she has come a very long way since the episode we met her and is clearly trying to do better which is the best thing we can really expect from her knowing her past. And for the first time, she admits how scared she is and Harold tells her his reasons to be terrified. I loved that we got to see day one for the many versions of Finch's creation this week. And the fact that he told Root how hard and complex it was to make the Machine that wouldn't hurt him or anyone else. He's aware that it may change one day and wants to be prepared, trying to make Root realize that she might be putting too much faith in a thing like that. Once again, both actors give absolutely amazing performances in the scene. I have a bad feeling about Root's future so I appreciate these moments even more. Kudos!

The Scene: The family dinner
A Dahne: Talk about intense! Lucille blames Barbara for killing her son, Margaret blames Barbara for taking her son away from her, Maggie wants to know Barbara (her mom who died when she was a baby), and Fred just wants Barbara to love him again. In the history of dysfunctional families, in no other have the problems died and then come back full force and larger than ever.
REVENGE, "Meteor", October 19, 2014, Actors: Emily VanCamp, Nick Wechsler, James Tupper
The Scene: Emily sees her father alive
Justyna Kubica: The moment I've been waiting for, for a very long time, since I was already thinking about the possibility of David being alive back in season 1. And it was pretty much perfect thanks to the amazing performance by Emily VanCamp. She's absolutely brilliant when it comes to the emotional scenes like this one, even without words. In a single moment she was shocked, happy, completely lost, scared, heartbroken and confused. And the fact that she had to stay quiet and hide it all, act in a way that won't let Jack's partner know the truth, only made it much more powerful. Everything about her life suddenly crashed and she expressed it all in a single tear and the look on her face. I always thought Emily VanCamp is a wonderful actress but in the moments like this she becomes one of my favorites. There's something about her ability to act both vulnerable and strong, being a real fighter and a fragile person at the same time. The scene was a real game changer for the show's main heroine and I can't wait to see what her next move is going to be. And if learning that her father is alive wasn't a great moment already, the next scene, when Nolan arrives and Emily falls apart, is another fantastic one. What an episode! Kudos to the cast & crew!
Pablozky21: Award for best acting of the season so far: Emily VanCamp totally owned the scene, making for one of the most emotionally affecting expressions I've seen on television. The way she becomes so afflicted after seeing her father alive is just outstanding; the joy, the confusion, the sadness, all of it comes in a whirlind of emotion that VanCamp displayed with perfection. It just takes a look at her eyes and suddenly Emily Throne is not a TV character, but a full fledge real person. Only a few times I've seen such a thing on television; I can connect with the characters, but there is always a thin line drawn with their reality and mine. Only with Anna Torv on Fringe, Tatiana Maslany on Orphan Black and sometimes with different actors on Game of Thrones I've felt this way, that they make their characters into real people as opposed of TV characters. Now Emily VanCamp- an actress I already deemed amazing- adds to that list, and it does it while delivering a short scene that is nothing more than an emotional fall down. Just amazing.
SCANDAL, "The Key", October 23, 2014, Actors: Kerry Washington, Darby Stanchfield
The Scene: Abby shows up at Olivia's house
Tonya Papanikolas: Abby shows up to yell at Olivia and ends up comforting her instead. This scene was great on the part of both Abby and Olivia. I loved watching Abby shift from vicious vitriol to comforting, concerned friend within seconds. Her words at first were extremely hurtful, telling Olivia she's poison and those who touch her pay the price. But then when she sees how upset Olivia is, Abby's first inclination is to comfort her. It showed that she still really cares about Olivia and is a true friend despite the hurt she's felt. It was a great way to bring these two together again after the break in their relationship. And it was also wonderful to see Olivia break down and show some rare emotions. It revealed just how scared she was. Olivia never shows any fear so it was a great change of pace. Kerry Washington was wonderful in the scene.
SLEEPY HOLLOW, "The Weeping Lady", October 20, 2014, Actors: Katia Winter, Nicole Beharie, Tom Mison, The Scenes: Katrina saves herself and stops the Weeping Lady with Abby's help & Ichabod learns what Katrina did years ago
A Dahne: Katrina saves herself and then Abbie and she work together to stop the Weeping Lady. I love that Katrina was no damsel in distress but got herself out of a deadly situation. More though I love seeing Abbie and her work together. Katrina needs to be a real part of the team, not always segregated from the rest of the team.
Geo N: Ichabod learning what Katrina really did all those years ago and coming to the realization that she has not been the most forthcoming wife he thought she was. The scene near the end with Ichabod opening up to Abby seemed to be very eye-opening to him.

The Scene: Abel hears that Gemma killed Tara
Geo N: Gemma says out loud that she was the one who killed Tara with Abel listening just outside the door. This will certainly be a pivotal scene for the final season.
SUPERNATURAL, "Soul Survivor", October 21, 2014, Actors: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles
The Scene: Demon Dean verbally attacks Sam when he's tied up
Klutzy girl: I'm pretty sure he's hit every single one of Sam's insecurities over the years. Jared played Sam's pain so well during that scene as you can tell that he tried to pretending that Dean's words didn't bother him. Wish we could have gotten more of Demon Dean but I'm looking forward to where this storyline is going next.
THE 100, "The 48", October 22, 2014, Actors: Eliza Taylor and more, The Scene: Clarke breaks out of the white room
Daniel van der Veer: The 100 is back and better than ever! Already in the opening scene this becomes quite clear. Clarke uses her bare hands to smash the glass from the window and then opens the door. As she desperatly searches for her friends, it becomes clear that she has no idea where she is. Beautiful portrayal by Eliza Taylor and what a way to open the new season! I am really looking forward to the rest of te season!
Pablozky21: Award for most improved acting: Eliza Taylor became better and better as The 100's freshman season went on, but it never really convinced me; often I saw it subpar compared to the amazing portrayal of Bob Morley's Bellamy. However that time comes to an end with the season 2 premiere: Eliza Taylor played Clarke with grace; brave but fearful, resourceful but not invencible, determined but not reckless. Clarke's escape from the white room relies on nothing but wits: no Deus Ex Machina, no rescue, nothing but Clarke's quick thinking and that's what make it so memorable, and Eliza Taylor plays it so damn well that her character shows how much she has grown on her time on Earth and how she became more and more complex and equipped to deal with everything that comes her way. The 100 is back people! And it is better than ever! If you are not watching, you are missing out.

Tonya Papanikolas: Flashback scene of Dr. Wells watching Barry get hit by lightning. Dr. Wells has a lot of secrets and this one was huge. Not only did he watch Barry get hit by lightning, he seemingly anticipated it, perhaps even planned it. Somehow he knew it was going to happen and wanted it to. That's sick. He really is seeming to be all about himself and what he can create. He's definitely not who you first think he is. This scene was really intriguing and made you wonder who Dr. Wells really is and what he is doing.

THE GOLDBERGS, "Shall We Play a Game?", October 22, 2014, Actors: Hayley Orrantia, Wendi McLendon-Covey, The Scene: Erica takes care of a drunk Beverly
A Dahne: Erica takes care of a drunk Beverly and they talk the next morning. The reason why The Goldbergs is my favorite comedy is because it does such a great job of combining heart and laughs. A drunk Beverly is a sight to see, but Erica learning to appreciate her mom was even better. I love this show.
THE LEGEND OF KORRA, "The Calling", October 24, 2014, The Scene: Korra bends the metal poison out of her body
Pablozky21: Book 4 has been mostly setup so far, but that ends with this episode, and it ends with a very key scene in which Korra finally let go of her past pain. She has never let go of the fights she fought in the past, the pain of those battles stayed with her so long, and she finally let it go. It took her some time and during that time it showed some of the most human aspects of Korra, her vulnerability and the burden of being the avatar. By realizing that she was disconnected from her loved ones and herself she finds the strength to move forward; it's a powerful moment of character development that puts an end to all the world building that book 4 has setup and prepares for the real stuff to come.
THE WALKING DEAD, "Strangers", October 19, 2014, Actors: Andrew J. West and more
The Scene: Bob's leg becomes Gareth's dinner
Tonya Papanikolas: Oh my gosh. What a moment. When Bob looks down and his leg is gone and you realize Gareth and his crew are eating it, it's a new low - which makes for a new high for viewers. I loved that they called him "Bob-B-Que," which was hilarious. And I also thought the mixture of scenes here was expertly crafted and very effective. Everyone inside the church is smiling and having so much fun, which just makes it worse as Bob suffers so much outside. It was really very well done. Disgusting, but great. It showed that she still really cares about Olivia and is a true friend despite the hurt she's felt. It was a great way to bring these two together again after the break in their relationship. And it was also wonderful to see Olivia break down and show some rare emotions. It revealed just how scared she was. Olivia never shows any fear so it was a great change of pace. Kerry Washington was wonderful in the scene.
A Dahne: Katrina saves herself and then Abbie and she work together to stop the Weeping Lady. I love that Katrina was no damsel in distress but got herself out of a deadly situation. More though I love seeing Abbie and her work together. Katrina needs to be a real part of the team, not always segregated from the rest of the team.
Geo N: Ichabod learning what Katrina really did all those years ago and coming to the realization that she has not been the most forthcoming wife he thought she was. The scene near the end with Ichabod opening up to Abby seemed to be very eye-opening to him.

The Scene: Abel hears that Gemma killed Tara
Geo N: Gemma says out loud that she was the one who killed Tara with Abel listening just outside the door. This will certainly be a pivotal scene for the final season.
The Scene: Demon Dean verbally attacks Sam when he's tied up
Klutzy girl: I'm pretty sure he's hit every single one of Sam's insecurities over the years. Jared played Sam's pain so well during that scene as you can tell that he tried to pretending that Dean's words didn't bother him. Wish we could have gotten more of Demon Dean but I'm looking forward to where this storyline is going next.
Daniel van der Veer: The 100 is back and better than ever! Already in the opening scene this becomes quite clear. Clarke uses her bare hands to smash the glass from the window and then opens the door. As she desperatly searches for her friends, it becomes clear that she has no idea where she is. Beautiful portrayal by Eliza Taylor and what a way to open the new season! I am really looking forward to the rest of te season!
Pablozky21: Award for most improved acting: Eliza Taylor became better and better as The 100's freshman season went on, but it never really convinced me; often I saw it subpar compared to the amazing portrayal of Bob Morley's Bellamy. However that time comes to an end with the season 2 premiere: Eliza Taylor played Clarke with grace; brave but fearful, resourceful but not invencible, determined but not reckless. Clarke's escape from the white room relies on nothing but wits: no Deus Ex Machina, no rescue, nothing but Clarke's quick thinking and that's what make it so memorable, and Eliza Taylor plays it so damn well that her character shows how much she has grown on her time on Earth and how she became more and more complex and equipped to deal with everything that comes her way. The 100 is back people! And it is better than ever! If you are not watching, you are missing out.

Geo N: Red holding Liz's hand in the hospital; Aram sitting next Samar Navabi as she wakes up to see him there and gently caresses his arm; Red watching the 8mm film he was working on throughout the episode, laughing and smiling at the little girl on screen.
Tonya Papanikolas: Flashback scene of Dr. Wells watching Barry get hit by lightning. Dr. Wells has a lot of secrets and this one was huge. Not only did he watch Barry get hit by lightning, he seemingly anticipated it, perhaps even planned it. Somehow he knew it was going to happen and wanted it to. That's sick. He really is seeming to be all about himself and what he can create. He's definitely not who you first think he is. This scene was really intriguing and made you wonder who Dr. Wells really is and what he is doing.
Bradley Adams: Flashback to Caitlin begging Cisco to unlock the door to save Ronnie.
THE GOLDBERGS, "Shall We Play a Game?", October 22, 2014, Actors: Hayley Orrantia, Wendi McLendon-Covey, The Scene: Erica takes care of a drunk Beverly
A Dahne: Erica takes care of a drunk Beverly and they talk the next morning. The reason why The Goldbergs is my favorite comedy is because it does such a great job of combining heart and laughs. A drunk Beverly is a sight to see, but Erica learning to appreciate her mom was even better. I love this show.
Pablozky21: Book 4 has been mostly setup so far, but that ends with this episode, and it ends with a very key scene in which Korra finally let go of her past pain. She has never let go of the fights she fought in the past, the pain of those battles stayed with her so long, and she finally let it go. It took her some time and during that time it showed some of the most human aspects of Korra, her vulnerability and the burden of being the avatar. By realizing that she was disconnected from her loved ones and herself she finds the strength to move forward; it's a powerful moment of character development that puts an end to all the world building that book 4 has setup and prepares for the real stuff to come.
The Scene: Bob's leg becomes Gareth's dinner
Tonya Papanikolas: Oh my gosh. What a moment. When Bob looks down and his leg is gone and you realize Gareth and his crew are eating it, it's a new low - which makes for a new high for viewers. I loved that they called him "Bob-B-Que," which was hilarious. And I also thought the mixture of scenes here was expertly crafted and very effective. Everyone inside the church is smiling and having so much fun, which just makes it worse as Bob suffers so much outside. It was really very well done. Disgusting, but great. Sharon Seymour: It's revealed that Bob's leg has been removed and Garth and his crew are eating it! Yuk.

ReplyDeleteThe Middle- Sue and Darrin make up in Sue's room, which is filled with balloons: it was quite sweet, and it almost made it to my choices for scene of the week, but it was edged out by The Legend of Korra's final scene.
The 100- essentially the rest of the episode. I went with Clarke breaking out the white room, but almost every scene is worth mentioning, from Murphy's return, the shift of power balance upon Kane's arrival, Clarke breaking and hiding a heel, Clarke and President Wallace's conversation, among many others.
Arrow- Thea's training: by far the most interesting thing done with the character so far. Also worth mentioning for the fun bit, Oliver saying "I never said I didn't know how to use a gun."
The Flash: The Flashback mentioned above. Things are getting interesting by the minute, but I hope they don't drag things out too much.
Finch and root talk was the highlight of the episode..

ReplyDeleteI will say that I am happy someone mentioned Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner. He gets overlooked so much. I think because he is on a 10 year old procedural but Thomas Gibson is a great actor and Aaron Hotchner is most definitely a badass.
Supernatural, The 100, Ichabod's realization and Criminal Minds are my picks.

ReplyDeleteThe very brief scene of the first Viper victim running with the ATM strapped on his back was simply HILARIOUS! The look on his face and the excited panting noise he made had me laughing for each of the 3 or 4 times I rewound it to watch it again! XD
