  1. Yeah, that was my reaction too. Things got serious!

    ReplyDelete
  2. I wonder how they will show such a violent scene?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Especially on the CW.

    ReplyDelete
  4. They will probably focus on their faces.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Did not see that coming..
But let me guess,a couple episodes later she'll find out that she's pregnant and we'll spend the rest of the season wondering if it is Francis' baby or not.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow, I understand the need for drama but this disgusts me. I know what I'm getting into when I tune into SVU but not on Reign. This is such a delicate issue I hope the writers know what they are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  7. ding Ding DING !!! We have a winner folks.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do you think the writers will change such an important piece of history like that though?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wow, poor Mary, that´s gonna change her forever. I´m also curious how will they show this scene, it´s CW after all.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Just what is the source on this? Don't get me wrong I'm a spolierbeliver but just to have some orientation.
It would be quite the game changer and I assume this will be Narcisse. With the way they portrayed the him he seems quite powerful.

  11. I'm like 99% sure that this spoiler is fake. It sounds like it's referring to episode 1x07, from all the way back in S1, with that Italian Count who wanted revenge for his son's death and tried to rape Mary while Francis was leading the servants out of the castle. Please check your source.

    ReplyDelete
  12. No, it's not from S1, definitely from an episode for next month :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. You are most likely correct. Still, it is such a delicate and important subject that even doing the scene like that will be controversial. I just dislike seeing that sort of thing in any capacity.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Woah, I'm not sure if I want to see a scene like that. The scene in Maleficent where she discovers her wings are gone was hard enough for me so to see an actual rape scene..

    ReplyDelete
  15. Unfortunately, in a historical drama it is something that does come up all to often, although with the Queen it is more unusual, granted. Outlander treats the subject matter fairly well I feel, being a story told from a woman's point of view probably helps on that score though. I think it's brave for the CW to do this, and in many ways will applaud them if they treat this right, if they get it wrong however, and it's something Mary 'gets over' in less than an episode say, I won't be impressed...

    ReplyDelete
  16. The other possibility is them to show the shadows and let the viewers realize what is happening! The Private Practice rape scene from season 4 was done quite roughly and with plenty violence shown. But it was more about the post rape scene that was really moving and bringing edge to the story.
Will be interesting to see Adelaide pull that off?

    ReplyDelete
  17. The writers have already given Francis a bastard brother and now a bastard child so I wouldn't doubt it!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Or they could have Mary be pregnant already by Francis and have a miscarriage due to a brutal rape. There was a preview on EW yesterday and Francis says to Mary that it's the happiest he's been. So maybe that refers to the moment she tells him she's pregnant?? IRL there was a rumored miscarriage.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, it came as quite a shock. I'm glad I actually read the spoiler because it would have been even more upsetting having it sprung on me during the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Definitely Narcisse since it says he wants revenge for the death of his son.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow, I didn't even think of that. I wish it were for that episode but I have a feeling the spoiler may be accurate. :(

    ReplyDelete
  22. I want to read but i dont want to read. God this is hard! I WONT READ IT!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I reread it and it does say while Francis is away so I don't think it was for 1x07 unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  24. won't be Narcisse. One, he will be around all season and the actor who plays him said he won't be a full out villian. and two, It will be a protestant according to another casting spoiler. So I'm thinking Mary and Francis do something or fail to do something while under the control of Narcisse leading to this man's son's death. I get that the writers want to show the escalating violence between protestants and catholics during this time but this ain't the way. And if they're doing it for ratings, that's just sick and it will backfire.

    ReplyDelete
  25. or they could have Mary and Francis raising two bastards!! How lovely! idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's bad enough that the writers gave us this damn Frola baby storyline now this!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You have all the scoop! I hadn't seen that yet. Just recognized your name from the EW site! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hmmm interesting. I don't think it's cause of the ratings. These stories are planned a lot earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mary likely was raped by Lord Bothwell in 1587 at Dunbar Castle.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow... I'm not sure what to say...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hmm, I think that was likely made up after the marriage myself. Historians are split on that thou :p

    ReplyDelete
  32. this mite not be true fans. we will have to wait and see..

    ReplyDelete
  33. As much as I like the show, this isn't something I want to see, so I think I'm going to stop watching. My career puts me in front of victims more often than I'd like, I don't want to see it in my tv shows as well.

    ReplyDelete
  34. but will this be a real rape or and attempt like it happend already in the show? Mary was almost raped not one but 2 times! And also them using this twist to give her a pregnancy... that would be so disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I know nothing about her becoming pregnant, that is something that some people are guessing may happen. I personally hope that does not happen as I agree with you that it is not necessary at all.

    ReplyDelete
  36. but will she be really raped? or is just another attempt of rape?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I will be flabbergasted if this is true. The ratings for Reign aren't good and these type of storylines, if not handled properly, run the risk of alienating even a core audience. That is not something Reign can afford.

I'm also confused as to why they set the show in Mary's time in France if this is the kind dark stories they want to do (assuming the spoiler is true). Why not set it during Mary's reign in Scotland? When she was perhaps raped by her third husband? Or why not make it about Elizabeth I? Who was sexually assaulted by her step father, Thomas Seymour, when she was 14. Seems a strange choice.

The show was at its best last year when it was a bit of camp fun, mixed with a bit of history (and I mean a bit) and some political fluff. I'm not sure the show could handle a storyline like this, nor am I sure that their core following will go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That is a stupid reason to quit watching. It's just tv.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Are you guys sure this is a confirmed spoiler? That it's true? This sounds too brutal for a CW show...

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm someone who loved the show during eps 1-8 but has steadily lost interest since then. It was around mid last season when I began to wonder whether these writers knew their audience at all. Around eps 10-12 the writers loss viewers that never returned. Then they made the show even darker in the back half and continued to lose viewers. There's zero joy in the show now and no sign of hope.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I really couldn't care less what you think is stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I quit watching 90210 during the middle of S2 but I think there was a rape scene in the season finale. Can anybody said how explicit it was?

    ReplyDelete
  43. The sad part is that Reign will use it for the shock value, so they can get an article about how Reign tackles the big subjects like masturbation and rape, etc. They already had sexual abuse shown in the show, but it was glossed over and that made me lose a lot of respect for the writers. Kenna was forced into sexual relations with that girl Henry killed and was even drinking to help herself get through it and it was glossed over and basically had no effects. Not to mention the promos for the episode were focusing on the sexiness of it. I mean, really? They're not afraid to stoop rather low.

    ReplyDelete
  44. God, yes! You remind me how powerful that scene and storyline were; it was really painful and intriguing to see Charlotte that way and I d o think it was well handled

    ReplyDelete
  45. These writers are absolutely not capable of handling this kind of storyline with the kind of depth and weight it deserves. This is another misguided stab at sensationalism in attempt to lure audience by proclaiming how edgy and sexy they are. This is not the Reign I tuned in for.

    ReplyDelete
  46. wow! i just know that this is how mary will finally get pregnant.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey Juliet, how's you? Yeah it's true, but I'm hoping that it will be handle well. Mary was a fighter all her life, even after being held prisoner for years by her cousin Elizabeth. I think it's a brave topic for them to take on, but it's something that many woman of that era had to face unfortunately so it's no surprise that it does come up in historical dramas fairly regularly.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm good. :) It's always nice to chat with you. I also hope the writers will handle such a storyline with care. I hope Francis will be there for Mary all the way. Last thing I want to see is them falling apart. She'll need him the most during this time.

Sandi, do you know if this episode has already been filmed? And which episode number it is?
Thank you for responding to me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you for letting me know. I'm still a bit surprised that CW is doing this storyline. Their viewers are so young. Fingers crossed it will be handled with care. And I hope a strong Frary will come out of this. She'll need her husband more than ever now. And I can't wait to see how Toby/Ade will handle this storyline. I think they're such strong actors. So I'm sure they'll do the storyline justice.

    ReplyDelete
  50. This news made me puke a little. Is this what called a good storyline now?Disgusting.Reign is doing their best to make me not wanna continue anymore!I really hope they don't go forward with this or somehow this storyline gets altered or something.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It been a while hasn't it, S2 isn't far off now though...did you see the location photo Tamla tweeted today? We're thinking Constance and d'Artagnan may have slipped off together in episode 9 ;) hehe

I think Kane is more than up for the task, she's been strong so far this season and this a role challenge that I think she will relish, most actress would imo! I really hope that she doesn't fall pregnant, I think that there is enough to explore without that 'tackiness' being added onto the storyline myself. But, I do kind of half remember there being a couple of children mentioned by Mary in Nostradamus' prophecy where he saw Francis' death just before the wedding? I so hope that isn't where the writers are going with this tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  52. its been removed from the site, there has been indication of violence but nothing along the lines of rape

    ReplyDelete
  53. They deleted it!!! WHAT DID IT SAY!? Everyone on Tumblr is freaking out!

    ReplyDelete
  54. yes! someone! what did it say!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ok so someone on tumblr very kindly filled me in this is what i heard "it said that in a months time (i think) around episode 9/10 while Francis was away Marys life would be in danger as a noble siege the castle or something like that in retribution for the death of his son and rape the queen in his anger, i really really hope its fake but the fact they just took it down and haven’t said anything really worries me =("

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sandi, I had no idea that we got new possible Constagnan scoop! Got to check that out now! :) Thanks! Can't believe they're already filming episode 9! Time goes by so fast!

From what I remember, I think Frary were talking about their future children and how they'd raise them together in Nostradamus' vision/prophecy. They were in bed, and Francis was slipping away...

Do you have any scoop on Francis being there for Mary during this difficult time? From the sides? I just really hope the writers will respect the Frary relationship and let him be there for her.

    ReplyDelete
  57. From what I can remember, that 90210 scene was not explicit at all, it was more implied through dialogue and cuts out. That's why I'm having a hard time seeing how it's going to be handled on Reign.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There's been a few bits, if you check the speculation thread out there's a photo or two too :)

Our contact didn't really say much more I'm afraid, and I don't think we're allowed to say any more on it at present any way. Sorry hun xx

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thank you for your answer. Then I guess it's going to be like that in Reign too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I do agree with you, but the ratings really dropped after 1x13. They were 1.75 viewers for that episode, (so the previous lower ratings likely had to do with what else might have been on and I remember around that time it was hard to watch because of college basketball, in my area, Reign wasn't on at all or came on very late), which was higher than the previous two, but the one that came after was only 1.48. The ratings rose a tiny bit for 1x15 to 1.61, but the ratings never recovered after that. They spoiled Bash's forced marriage to Kenna the day of the episode and the ratings for that episode (1x16) weren't too hot at only 1.40. That storyline was obviously very unpopular, because after that there was never really a comeback. 1x17 only brought in 1.23, which was the lowest of the season before the season finale.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Bash and Kenna are popular. The ratings were on the rise until about episode 10 and never really recovered once it hit so low during 1x12. Folks tuned out during the bash legitimization arc when all the joy in the show started to disappear. People tuned back in during 1.13 because it was the big wedding episode but then darkness followed in 1x14. I don't think Bash/Kenna has anything to do with the drop in ratings during 1x16, alot of people tuned out because of henry's madness that occurred during that time. too dark for this sort of show. Then Lola's pregnancy and Mary turned into to Cath 2.0. Many people have commented that Bash/Kenna was one of the few things the show got right in the end and they have been the only light on the show imo. The show got too dark and made the ladies, minus Kenna, too miserable

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's still Francis' kid. The baby did nothing wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I mean, rape was very common back then, though. It's brutal and hard to watch, but it's not unrealistic.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Where is the "speculation thread"? I've been looking everywhere and can't find what you're referring to. Please help!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Well, since they asked for this to be removed I'm going to guess this was true. I hope they handle it well, although I don't have high hopes. Oh well...

    ReplyDelete
  66. As awful as I agree it is, now that the shock has worn off, I'm not as uncomfortable with it. I actually do trust the Reign writers - I think the way they've handle women related issues has been pretty impressive thus far - and I'm hoping in keeping with that, they write it in a way that doesn't exploit the subject matter, but shows they aren't afraid to shy away from a very prevalent, current topic that doesn't really get enough attention. Again - if it's being used as a ploy, it's not okay. But with the way of these writers, I have faith. It could be really impressive network tv in the end. We shall see.

    ReplyDelete
  67. We're talking about the Season 2 speculation thread for The Musketeers, which is the show where Juliet and I met each other earlier this year during S1 of that show. She's a big fan of Constagnan ship, and I run a thread here that collects all the news about the filming that's happening atm, it can be found here - http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/04/the-musketeers-season-2-filming-updates.html
