Ratings Breakdown:
San Francisco’s victory over Kansas City on the seventh game of the 2014 World Series lifted Fox to a hefty (and rare) overnight Wednesday win. The final match-up averaged an approximate 14.5 rating/23 share in the overnight households in primetime, peaking in the 10:30 p.m. half-hour at a 17.3/28. Comparably, this was 16 percent above the 12.5/21 for Boston’s victory over St. Louis in the sixth (and final) match-up on the year-ago evening, and it was 59 percent above the 9.1/14 for game six on Tuesday. And that Tuesday game averaged 13.37 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/11 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.
Despite the added competition, ABC, CBS and The CW were on par in the overnights from one week earlier (with NBC’s loss of 26 percent a result of repeat airings of “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD”). Veteran “Survivor” on CBS, which is merging the teams next week, scored a 5.8/ 9 (#2) in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was equal to both last week and the year-ago evening. This is a reality/competition that shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Next on the Eye net was another long-running entry, “Criminal Minds,” which rose to a 6.9/10 (#2) at 9 p.m., followed by just full season-renewed “Stalker” at a 5.2/ 8. Although “Stalker” increased by eight percent versus the 4.8/ 8 one week earlier, it was still down by 19 percent from year-ago time period occupant “CSI” (6.4/11 on 10/30/13).
ABC was virtually identical from one week earlier with its line-up of “The Middle” (#3t: 5.1/ 8), “The Goldbergs” (#4: 4.6/ 7), “Modern Family” (#2: 7.0/11), recent entry “Black-ish” (#3: 5.5/ 8) and the always quiet “Nashville” (#3: 3.9/ 6). Particularly positive for ABC remains “Black-ish,” which was 41 percent above failed “Super Fun Night” on the year-ago evening (3.9/ 6 out of a 5.2/ 8 for a repeat of “Modern Family”).
Elsewhere, older-skewing NBC drama “The Mysteries of Laura” earned its full season-renewal with a consistent 5.1/ 8 (#3) from 8-9 p.m., followed by encore telecasts of aforementioned “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 3.0/ 4) and “Chicago PD” (#4: 2.9/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. The CW, meanwhile, has sprung what could be a leak in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour as a result of “The 100” at a 1.1/ 2 at 9 p.m. (#5). Comparably, this was 42 percent below lead-in “Arrow” (#5: 1.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.) and 15 percent below failed year-ago occupant “The Tomorrow People” (1.3/ 2 on 10/30/13). Last week, “The 100” opened its sophomore season with a 1.2/ 2 on Oct. 22, and that translated into 1.54 million viewers and a 0.5/ 1 among adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data).

Good for Stalker & stable for Nashville
ReplyDeleteI really cannot deal with the 100 doing badly :/ I hope the demo goes in the other direction, regardless of how unlikely that is.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this means Nashville is up from last week since its not classified as a 'loser' this week.
ReplyDeleteGood for the ABC lineup, CBS lineup, Mysteries Of Laura and the World Series.
ReplyDeleteWhile watching Arrow last night, I wondered why Diggle doesn't suit up. If he's seen he could be tied to Oliver. Or worse someone could go after his family. Why not wear sunglasses, grease paint or at least a hat...
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look good for 100:(
I think it is just steady
ReplyDeleteAh, I guess that's better than being down, so I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteIt may have done the same 0.5, it dipped just one tenth in HH. Hopefully it will rise next week without the world series
ReplyDeleteYeah I know but a 0.5 is not good, I wanted more. Daamn :/
ReplyDeleteI am really hoping once the world series has ended the 100 will do much better.
ReplyDeletedamnit 100...stabilize. You're too unique for theCW to end so soon!
ReplyDeleteThe 100 hurts my heart. I'm realistic but I really, really hope it turns around.
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening with the 100?It's such a well written show!!
ReplyDeleteThe 100 :( This show is SOOOO GOOD I will not manage to deal if this is cancelled :(
ReplyDeleteI hate when he says " full season-renewal".-
ReplyDeleteThinking Arrow will get between 0.7 - 0.8. Since that was what it got last year. Not sure about the 100 since it didnt air last year against WS. And Chicago preemptions might have an impact on both.
ReplyDeleteThe World Series was a good game too. I think it'll hit a 5.0 demo which would be great for Fox. I'm happy to see Laura stable. I think it'll have another 1.3 demo rating which would be great for the show.
ReplyDeleteI think it would do better on Mondays after TO. Arrow is not a good match for this sci-fi show.It would pull same 0.5 on Monday what would be perfectly fine. I think lead-in is not really working well for CW shows , probably because of younger audience. Young people tend to go online to discuss an episode after it ends and know for sure where the channel change buttom on their remote.
ReplyDeleteThe100 skews more older then than Arrow.
ReplyDeleteOr younger then 18. Obviously lots of its viewers are outside of desired demo.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is male skewing like Arrow. It wouldn't be a good match with the lower rated and female skewing The Originals. Honestly, other than a post Flash slot, I don't think there is any better placement for The 100. Its competition is still quite easy I think. It pains me to say this as I adore the show but I can't think of good excuses, except for the World Series these two weeks.
ReplyDeleteBut if they are out of the desired demo do the network really care about those numbers?
ReplyDeleteDammit The 100 please go up. The 100 is too wonderful a show to go down because of bad numbers.
ReplyDeleteBut the 100 is not compatible with TO at all,i think it will do even worse there!
ReplyDeletePlease stay steady The 100! Next week the baseball is over so all your male viewers will come back hopefully.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 actually did well in male viewers last week. It's the female ones that didn't show up apparently.
ReplyDeleteMe too :( The Flash and The 100 are the best shows on the CW and I don't want to loose The 100. There's nothing like it on tv right now.
ReplyDeleteWorld Series + pre-emption is my excuse for The 100! Hopefully it will go up next week :P It's such a well done show it deserves so much better.
ReplyDeleteThat's another thing that bothers me. The 100 is so innovative for the CW, it's not compatible with any of them. I almost think it would do better following Supernatural but they are both 9pm shows. Arrow is the next best compatible but Wednesday's are proving to be a bitch for the CW. I honestly believe the show would do better on Mon/Tues nights.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is gonna be the cancelled cult show of the 2010s.
ReplyDeleteIt's rare to see such a great show nowadays, and it's rare to see a good show get cancelled in television as it is today.
Unfortunately, this is The CW and they only keep the ones with the love octagons instead of intelligent shows such as this.
So likely the World Series not being on will make pretty much no difference.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible the female viewers didn't show up because the male viewers in the house were watching the world series :P
ReplyDeleteWell it might be that even more males would be watching if it wasn't for the World Series. I don't know how the show skewed last year since I didn't keep track of it by then so I cannot tell you exactly how many males it has lost since it has returned.
ReplyDeleteI am still in denial over that possibility. The 100 is an amazing show, it cannot be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteT100 is not comparable with anything on CW now.
ReplyDeleteTrue. We'll just have to see, I guess.
ReplyDeleteArrow, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, The Flash all have better ratings than T100. Reign's ratings arent that far off T100's, neither are JTV's at the moment. Not seeing your point. CW are going to keep shows that make them money, they have decent ratings, are close to syndication and likely cheaper to make. If they dump T100 it will be because its ratings have been poor considering how far away from any kind of syndication it is and how much room they have on the schedule/how much they have in their budget once they have renewed the shows that deserve renewal more than it for various reasons.
ReplyDeleteArrow 1.0, the 100 0.6 according to http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/the-sked-wednesday-ratings-10-29-2014.html
ReplyDeleteThat's great for both of them,. but they will both probably go down because of pre-emptions.
ReplyDeleteso obviously not affected by baseball then
ReplyDeleteyeah so not getting too excited.
ReplyDeleteboth shows were preempted. We need to wait for finals to see a clearer picture.
ReplyDeleteCW doesn't have show doing well at 9pm (exept SPN). Every hit they've managed to launch is 8pm, all 9pms are dying slow death. I am sure there is a reason for that.
ReplyDeleteCurse you pre-emptions for giving me false hope!
ReplyDeleteAwesome for the 100! I hope it doesn't adjust down
ReplyDelete- ABC had a very strange night with the 9pm doing incredibly well (especially Blackish) and even Nashville doing okay, but The Middle falling a lot at 8pm. The Goldbergs continues to build strongly on the middle but it was also down a bit, though I think it's a direct result of the lead-in there.
ReplyDelete- Survivor and Minds did okayish for CBS but Stalker had a very ugly result, just thanking its probably undeserved backorder. Tying Nashville is yikes. And it probably should have increased sans PD (the same goes for Minds actually).
- Laura is just there.
- Those look ok results for the CW and certainly promising for non World Series future weeks but since there were preemptions I will wait for finals. Please gods of television, let the 100 not be adjusted down, though the likelihood of that happening is thin.
CBS is probably more affected by the World Series than th he other networks since their shows skew older male just like baseball does. I could be wrong though.
ReplyDeleteWhere were they preempted? Fox carried baseball, no football was one. Who preempted them I wonder?
ReplyDeleteI guess Nyssa helps Arrow's ratings! I hope that means we'll see more of her!
ReplyDeleteOK so I was glad The 100 rose but I realize there were pre-emptions. I hope it does not adjust down.
ReplyDeleteYAY ARROW!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat for arrow and the 100!!!! And goid for nashville
ReplyDeleteYes! the 100!
ReplyDeleteStalker ties Nashville. That's not very good. Maybe it will not get 22 episodes after all.

Arrow and The 100 was pre-empted in the #3 Market, Chicago for Basketball which is obviously inflating their preliminary number. Don't be surprised if they do down as much as three tenths in finals.
ReplyDeleteJust a suggestion, it would be better imo if half numbers are posted in the post as well. And also info abt pre-emptions so it's all comprehensive in one place together. Hope you consider it :)
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean Nashville will be adjusted down to a 1.4?
ReplyDeleteExactly
ReplyDeleteBoth Criminal Minds and Stalker have a 65% women skew this season so far (last night's results not included), which means that 65% of their audience are females. The average skew for entertainment programs is 60% this season so that's an above average women skew.
ReplyDeleteLack of promo. It was also preempted in a bunch of places last night. I think not started the season until Oct. 22 was a mistake too. All the other returning CW shows started much earlier.
ReplyDeleteI guess Stalker shares more viewers with World Series than Nashville, so I guess it held up okay
ReplyDeleteI think (hope) the CW won't consider these ratings too much since the World Series is part of those big events on TV every year. Let's stay positive and promote the show as much as possible on social networks, I'm confident we'll get the ratings back to normal!
ReplyDeleteYay, Arrow and The 100.
ReplyDeleteBoth Arrow and The 100 are stable in their half-hours. Not sure if it means something. Crossing my fingers they will keep their numbers.
ReplyDeleteThe 100's ratings are quite surprising so far :(!
ReplyDeleteLet's boost its popularity through social networks guys! It has been proven that social networking can improve a show's ratings, so let's get it more popular!
Goldbergs still building up 0.3 over The Middle.
ReplyDeleteSo CW ratings are inflated *sigh*
ReplyDeleteStalker dropped after it got a back-order.
CW was pre-empted.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that mean?
ReplyDeleteSome markets aired football instead of usual programming so ratings are artificially higher and will likely drop when the final ratings come in
ReplyDeleteI cannot even conceive The 100 going down to a 0.3
ReplyDeleteThat would be horrific.
ReplyDeletebasksetball
ReplyDeleteNBC is inflated also. Preemptions in Portland.
ReplyDeleteNot nessicarily
ReplyDeleteJust changed it to sports, lol
ReplyDeleteYeah, no way it's dropping that much.
ReplyDeletecharacters...don't...make...the...effing.....ratings
ReplyDeletefingers crossed for them not adjusting down
ReplyDeletenot so negative, I can't see it go down three tenths, one tenth maybe
ReplyDeleteI would guess more like they both go down 0.1
ReplyDeleteI think it could be higher then 0.1 because we are talking Chicago Bulls in the Chicago market.
ReplyDeleteI cant stand people claiming their show has been canceled for being too intelligent or being dumped in favour of shows about love triangles or whatever. Its obnoxious
ReplyDeleteGood for arrow at 1.0 In Demo.Besides the flash must shows and under 1 In Demo on the CW
ReplyDeleteI opened this article with half scared and then saw a 0.6 for The 100 which I thought was good until I read Marc categorising the show as a "Loser" and also the fact that it got pre-empted which means ratings will come down!! Le sigh! :(
ReplyDeleteI can see it go 0.2 since we already seen it on CW last week with Jane the Virgin. Going from a 0.7 in fast to a 0.5 in final ratings, when it was preempted.
ReplyDeleteIt was pre-empted, so it will probably adjust downn like it normaly does.
ReplyDeleteNormally between 0.1-0.3
Preemptions so down adjustments are likley
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that's what happened to "Jane the Virgin" on Monday, too (0.4).
ReplyDeleteI would love a The 100/SPN pairing. The 100 is no more violent than TVD and TO, each airing at 8 pm.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of 'Family suitable programming' I don't see why The CW doesn't swap timeslots now (or within the next few episodes) of Jane the Virgin and TO now that The CW used TO as established show to prop up newbie.
true, we're talking two different sets of shows in two completely different timeslots here
ReplyDeleteJtV is led in by a drama that is completely off tone for JtV and is not help in anyway and competes in the monday 9pm timeslot wich is rather different to The 100s position on wednesday nights.
Tbh I don't know WHAT to think of theCWs ratings at this point, it has become fairly unpredictable
I love the new opener for The 100 - sort of Hunger Games meets Game of Thrones. I'm surprised that The CW would spend the considerable $$$ on a brand new intro if they weren't at all invested in The 100.
ReplyDeleteThe Originals has same ratings as The 100 and it has less views
ReplyDeleteI think JTV is slipping and be finished after this season.
ReplyDeleteWell the 100 is not really grabing up the young male demo Arrow can provide, and its even worse in the female demo. Last week Arrow managed to get a 0.7 in the 18-34 female demo, The 100 got a really bad 0.2. So i dont know why it is underperfoming in such a manor. The Flash is another good male skewed show but i dont think the 100 would survive against SHIELD.
The preemptions for Wednesday nite are very tricky. Because both shows didnt air at all yesterday. So the Chicago market is most likely a bust. So i can see them adjust down more then usual. Just picked the JTV example since it was the last show i remembered that adjusted down 0.2 after it was preempted in previous weeks.
100 is awful...deserves to die. The Tomorrow People was better written; CW went with the wrong show.
ReplyDeleteShows aren't renwed or cancelled on "quality".TTP lost half it's audience, couldn't keep good ratings with a good Arrow leadin and didn't do well online, internationally & I heard it lost half it's sudience in UK too.It do well socially either.CW went with one that had higher ratings, did well in DVr,internationally, online & had critical acclaim and made money.Shows are cancelled or renewed based on if they're making enough money to justify keeping them or not.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for making this statement to all who enjoy the stalker, BUT it does my heart good that Stalker does absolutely nothing to improve the time over CSI. I hate that they moved CSI to Sunday to die. Ok my rant is finished and again I am sorry if i offended anyone
ReplyDeleteNot even close.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 had to compete with the World Series twice now, it is a huge thing in the US, my bet is it will go up next week. My concern rather is that new viewer have trouble getting into the show if they had not seen Season 1 first.
ReplyDelete
