Ratings Breakdown:
CBS managed to maintain overnight Tuesday dominance despite facing game one of The 2014 World Series, besting baseball by two-tenths of a rating point (or two percent) in households. But Fox came to life care of the San Francisco Giants vs. the Kansas City Royals (7-1) with an estimated 8.5 rating/14 share in the household overnights from 8-11 p.m. (peaking in the 9 p.m. half-hour with a 9.4/15). Comparably, this was 13 percent below the 9.8/15 for game one of the St. Louis Cardinals at the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013. And that translated into 14.40 million viewers and a 4.2 rating/13 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.

One week earlier, Fox averaged a mere 1.4/ 2 in the household overnights with its combination of repeats of “The Simpsons” and “Bob’s Burgers” and original installments of “New Girl” and “The Mindy Project.” Fox, needless to say, is hoping for a seven game series.

CBS, meanwhile, slipped by only four percent from one week earlier with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1: 10.5/16), “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 9.5/14) and “Person of Interest” (#2: 6.0/10). “NCIS: New Orleans,” of course, is a shoo-in for a full season episode order at any moment.

NBC was also on the Tuesday overnight map thanks to “The Voice” at a 7.8/12 (#3) from 8-9 p.m., which was 66 percent above year-ago occupant “The Biggest Loser” (4.7/ 7 on 10/22/13). But week two of lead-out sitcom “Marry Me” slipped to a distant 4.2/ 6 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which was 25 percent below the 5.6/ 9 series-opener last week. And that translated into 7.54 million viewers and a 2.3/ 7 among adults 18-49 (out of 12.34 million and a 3.4/11 in the demo for “The Voice”). Last night, overnight retention for “Marry Me” out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (8.2/12) was lacking at 51 percent.

Next on NBC was sophomore “About a Boy” (#3: 3.3/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.), which dropped by 21 percent from the 4.2/ 6 season-opener one week earlier, followed by “Chicago Fire” at a consistent 4.6/ 8 (#3) at 10 p.m. Comparably, overnight growth for “Chicago Fire” out of “About a Boy” was a noticeable 39 percent.

Elsewhere, week three of just-renewed “The Flash” on The CW dropped 10 percent from week two with a 2.7/ 4 at 8 p.m. But that 2.7 rating was still 80 percent above year-ago occupant “The Originals” (1.5/ 2 on 10/22/13). Three-week overnight track for “The Flash”: 3.4/ 5 – 3.0/ 5 – 2.7/ 4.

Next on The CW was veteran “Supernatural” at a 1.5/ 2 at 9 p.m. (#5), which was flat from both last week and the year-ago evening.

Over at ABC, the early results remain dismal for sitcoms “Selfie” (#4: 2.8/ 4) and “Manhattan Love Story” (#4: 2.1/ 3), which dropped from year-ago occupant “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (5.1/ 8 on 10/22/13) by an average of 52 percent. Overnight results for both comedies, which have three more scripts ordered, were series-lows. Relocated “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” meanwhile, could only muster a fourth-place 3.0/ 5 from 9-10 p.m., which was two-tenths of a rating point (or six percent) below the 3.2/ 5 one week earlier. But that 3.2 overnight rating still translated into respectable 1.7/ 5 among adults 18-49.

Capping off the night for ABC was episode five of drama “Forever” at a 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m., which was flat from one week earlier (and that resulted in 4.81 million viewers and a 1.1/ 3 in the demo, based on the Live + Same Day data).
