CBS 9.5/15
NBC 7.9/13
ABC 3.5/ 6
Fox 1.8/ 3

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 10/01/13:
NBC: – 2, CBS: – 6, ABC: – 8, CW: -22, Fox: -28
———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. As always, these overnights are your first look at the ratings and a precursor to what could lie ahead. And we take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence.

-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “NCIS: New Orleans” (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
“Chicago Fire” (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Selfie” (ABC), “Manhattan Love Story” (ABC), “Utopia” (Fox), “iHeartradio Music Festival” (CW), “New Girl” (Fox), “The Mindy Project” (Fox)

———-

Ratings Breakdown:
Yes, we know…the household overnights are not the complete picture. There is much more to the equation, including DVR usage and social media. But these metered markets are an indication of what could lie ahead, and there is no way to put a positive spin on the opening overnights for ABC comedies “Selfie” and “Manhattan Love Story.”

CBS, as expected, topped this second Tuesday of the new TV season in the overnights, and the home of “The Voice,” NBC, is a lock for leadership in adults 18-49 (and all key young adult demos). The Eye net’s veteran “NCIS” was top-rated for the evening, with an 11.7 rating/19 share at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was six percent above the 11.0/18 for the season-premiere one week earlier (which translated into 18.23 million viewers and a 2.9 rating/10 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data).

Next on CBS was episode two of “NCIS: New Orleans” at a dominant 10.3/16 at 9 p.m., which bested year-ago occupant “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.5/15 on 10/01/13) by eight percent and maintained 98 percent of its 10.5/16 debut one week earlier. Yes…”NCIS: New Orleans” is a hit. And capping off the night for CBS was drama “Person of Interest” at a dominant 6.7/11 at 10 p.m., which dipped by 19 percent from the 8.3/15 on the year-ago evening. Competing “Chicago Fire” on NBC (#2: 5.5/ 9), which was equal from both one week and one year earlier, is a lock for leadership in the key demos.

“The Voice” on NBC, meanwhile, scored a healthy 9.0/14 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was six percent above the 8.5/13 one week earlier. And now onto ABC…

Sitcom “Selfie” launched with a distant third-place 3.7/ 6 in the overnights at 8 p.m., leading into the debut of “Manhattan Love Story” at a 3.2/ 5 at 8:30 p.m. – also a far No. 3. And the two comedies, on average, trailed year-ago occupant “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (5.6/ 9 on 10/01/13) by a hefty 38 percent and the week-ago live “Dancing With the Stars” Results Show (7.0/11 on Sept. 23) by 51 percent. Since most new series drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in week two, this is a stalled at the gate start for both comedies.

Next on ABC was relocated “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” at a 3.2/ 5 from 9-10 p.m., which was 16 percent below the 3.8/ 6 one week earlier (which translated into 5.98 million viewers and a 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data). Keep in mind that the “SHIELD” sophomore season opener increased to 8.9 million viewers (+2.92 million) and a 3.2 in adults 18-49 (+52 percent), based on the Live + 3 Day data. The DVR usage is significant.

Capping off ABC’s night was episode three of drama “Forever” at a third-place 3.9/ 7 at 10 p.m., which decreased by seven percent from the 4.2/ 7 in the overnights for its time period debut one week earlier. Compared to failed year-ago occupant “Lucky 7” (2.0/ 4 on 10/01/13), this was still a rise of 95 percent, however.

Elsewhere, the Tuesday results remain challenging for Fox, which cannot compete with its combination of “Utopia” (#4: 1.7/ 3 – tick, tock, the cancellation clock is ticking) and sitcoms “New Girl” (#4: 2.0/ 3) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.8/ 3). And The CW populated the evening with part two of low-rated special, iHeartradio Music Festival, which scored a mere 0.7/ 1 from 8-10 p.m. Next Tuesday on The CW will feature the series-debut of “The Flash” and the season-premiere of long-running “Supernatural.”

  1. Forever seems to have held nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Forever seems to have held up well. SHIELD on the other hand doesn't look as good.
I'll have to wait for the demos before I declare Selfie and MLS losers, but it's not looking pretty

    ReplyDelete
  3. Looks like Selfie and MLS are DOA.
Poor AoS, it just can't stop falling.
NCIS:NO is another git newbie for CBS. Wondering how Stalker will do tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Seems Tuesdays are the weakest link in ABC schedule.
I hope Forever still did okay.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Edward, any metered market ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  6. No surprise TV & NCIS increased with ABC swapping DOA comedies with DWTS (S). ABC may reconsider reviving the Results show to cover these flops.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Manhattan Love Story bombed but I'll wait on the demos for Selfie. Compared to Mixology, it premiered on par with it but that may not be enough for a full season, let alone a 2nd season.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I want to personally slap the person responsible for delaying Agents of SHIELD from hitting Netflix. The show has gotten SO much better but people who quit watching in early S1 are probably gone for good.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes, I couldn't watch more than 3 episodes in season 1. Many people said the show is way better, but I didn't want to come back.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Indeed.

    Selfie 1.6
    MLS 1.5
    Shield 1.9/1.9
    Forever 1.5/1.4

Based on prior week patterns, I expect ABC to come down between 8-10pm and hold or go up from these numbers at 10pm.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Based on those numbers. apart from AoS, nothing else is really respectable.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Damn it, ABC. I wanted the comedies to do well although I thought was a long shot. Demos could tell a different story of course but I am not optimistic.

As for MAOS, as usual, I will wait and see. I hope it hanged on to that 2.0 at least.

    ReplyDelete
  13. NCIS 2.4/2.5
    NO 1.9/2.0
    POI 1.6/1.5

CBS will build on these numbers in Fast Nationals but the increases will get smaller as the night gets later.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If it stats in the high ones, it should be fine, I think. Any thing below that, and it will be in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah, I was sure MLS would be DOA but I expected Selfie to do better because the leads are pretty well known. Plus it got a lot of promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've yet to watch yesterday's episode of AoS (trying not to step on a spoilery mine over here!), but anyway, I hope the HH slippage doesn't translate into a lower demo. The show really can't afford to drop beneath, say, 1.8, its low so far. I know HH numbers tend to not mean squat, but anyway, I'll be worried over here until I see the demo. It's really annoying, too, that the show has to rely on a lead-in as ill-fitting and low-rated as the new comedies - although I guess nothing would rate too high against NCIS, as AoS itself knows all too welll.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good for NCIS rising! I expect a full season order for both Scorpion and NCIS: NOLA in a few days. Unless they wait to see how Stalker is doing, then it would be late next week.

    ReplyDelete
  18. OMG, Forever is getting better, last night episode consolidated my loving for Abe-Henry relationship.....so adorable to watch, the one thing peculiar about this show is the love between Abe and Henry, a father and son relationship but we see the 200 yrs old father looking younger than the son, and acting way older and wiser than the 60+ son. The interaction and acting between these two actors is great!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I see Stalker doing fine, despite the critic- bashing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow,i wasn't expecting NCIS New Orleans to do so well (so far). Good for them!

    YaY for NCIS!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep,I was one of the ones that only made it to the 3rd ep. I, like Debora Candido have no desire to go back.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Me too but I the overnights for these young skewing shows are often so misleading that I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet. It's like last week when the overnights made it look like Laura was a winner when it was clearly a looser.

    ReplyDelete
  23. ABC should move Grey's Anatomy to Tuesday 8pm next season. It held up well on Thursday 8pm and Season 12 could be the final season because most actors contracts ends after S12. They could launch a new Shonda show at Thursday at 8pm (Scandal and HTGAWM are not 8pm shows...)

    ReplyDelete
  24. never happening- it fixed their thursday

    ReplyDelete
  25. ABC needs to find something for Tuesdays, but brining back the DWTS results wont help either

    ReplyDelete
  26. Better option is to put the aging Middle and a new family comedy on Tuesdays and let The Goldbergs anchor 8pm Wednesday next year (assuming it continues to build on The Middle's lead-in).

    ReplyDelete
  27. Forever could very well be doomed by the year it is premiering. I am pretty sure that had it premiered last year ABC would have done away with Nashville and kept this one, but ABC's excellent year in drama might be its undoing.

I am not really sure of what ABC Tuesdays midseason will look like if Forever remains here. Will they really launch The Whispers before Shield instead of after it? Seems a bit awkward.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Per this ( www.spoilertv.com/2014/09/tv-ad-prices-20142015.htm ), The Whispers will premiere on Wednesdays, which really makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You're right that would be an even better idea.

    ReplyDelete
  30. NO SELFIE! I wanted this show to work so badly! I'm sure a lot of people didn't watch because of its name. They just don't know what they're missing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What are ABCs excellent year in dramas? You mean that one Shonda show that premiered? LMAO.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ABC is in a very odd position, especially on Tuesdays. More than any other network, it lacks a clear identity. Or maybe it's better to say it is reluctant to focus largely on women, which it does best with.

I get why AOS is on, but it's kind of an odd fit for the network, especially on Tuesdays. And while there's no reason why two different types of comedy can't exist at the same time, shows like MLS seem...kind of out of place on the network, especially when all of its hits are more family focused.
At least Forever is doing better than anyone probably expected it to do. I'm curious to see what those demos look like. If it's, say, a 1.4 or higher, and stays that way next week, perhaps ABC will order a full season. It's gotta start somewhere to build up the night.

Also, interesting to see that both NCIS and TV rose and CF was even.

As for Fox...yikes. What a mess its Tuesdays are.

    ReplyDelete
  33. AoS is respectable because it got a 1.9? Really? A show in its second Season that has dropped hard since its first episode premiere and literally has synergy oozing out of it and it got a 1.9? It's pathetic.

    Your fanboy card is showing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And you know, OUAT and its 3.7 and Resurrection with its 2.5, or even Castle with its 2.2. ABC only had 3 dramas under 2s, and considering how the rest of the networks are faring, that's pretty good

    ReplyDelete
  35. Relatively speaking, it's not really a loser. Not a clear winner, but it's got some things going for it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ABCS could fix Tuesday by moving Once Upon a Time. A "fix" of a ten year old show is now really a fix.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Once will remain on Sundays until it ends.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well Mixology had Modern Family as a lead-in, but I think and hope onen of the two comedies gets renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Laura?

It's doing better than expectations, but that's irrelevant at the end of the day. It's like saying that Shield was doing worse than expectations last year. It was still performing well above its network drama average the same way Laura is performing well below its network drama average.

    ReplyDelete
  40. MLS was obviously going to be DOA. I thought Selfie wasn't going to be a hit but I was expecting a decent start at least.
I'm not surprised AoS keeps dropping. Even if what the fans say it's true and the show has gotten so much better ABC barely promoted so people are never going find out or get interested in the show again.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Those are random most years, don't put credibility into them. Some of them might come to pass but it will be based on luck, nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I came back, but it was haaaard. Early S1 sucked ass. The second half is good and made me want to follow the show, but it was really, reaaaally hard for me to get there; the episodes were there and I was like "I don't want to watch this crap". A recomendation would be to start from episode 12 and onwards, episode 1 to 11 are truly bad

    ReplyDelete
  43. ABC Drama Average so Far: 2.46
NBC Drama Average so far: 2.26
FOX Drama Average so Far: 2.07
CBS Drama Average so Far: 1.96

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think Babar is pretty much far away from being a fanboy. A 1.9 is a 2 tenths drops from the premiere with a possible adjustment upwards to 2.1 just like last week. If Shield is steady at low 2s and high 1s it will still be a reliable player for ABC's troubled nights. It's not pathetic at all

    ReplyDelete
  45. Banged by Corey StollOctober 1, 2014 at 3:04 PM

ABC successfully fixed the 8pm Thursday death slot with Grey's. But it sounds that a lot of work still needs to be done for tuesdays. The network started this season with very healthy ratings on every night - excluding Saturdays (of course ...) and Tuesdays.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I guess, but unless all shows are equal, one has to be lower than others. TMOL, so far, appears to be doing better than Revolution and comedies that have gone in the slot. That's something. And total viewers aren't the same thing as young viewers, they can be helpful to some degree.
It's early still, but so far, if I were NBC, I'd be pleased.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So many people either didn't watch Selfie because they thought it was a show glamorizing social media culture, or they changed the channel after seeing how much it mocked social media.

    ReplyDelete
  48. How does AoS adjust up 2tenths? Last week was the 3rd or so time I've seen it do that. It's the only show I think I've seen do that. Is there a special reason?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think the AOS/Forever combination is not helping Forever getting more ratings. I tried AOS this season as well like the first episode but nah I passed, and I only wait for Forever eventho is so late but Im loving the show.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Revolution actually did better on episode 2 on the same night, edging Laura out with a 1.6. TMOL looks to be following Revolution's pattern; it could hold on to its 1.5 and be renewed, but it doesn't have much to hold on to

    ReplyDelete
  51. Brad is on full troll mode once again. This guy pulls this same routine everywhere he goes. Never has anything nice to say about anyone or anything. Don't feed the troll, folks.

    ReplyDelete
  52. This past week alone:
    - DWTS adjusted up 0.2 on Monday
    - Forever adjusted up 0.2 on Monday
    - MAOS adjusted up 0.2 on Tuesday
    - Modern Family adjusted up 0.2 on Wednesday
    - OUAT adjusted up 0.3 on Sunday
    - Resurrection adjusted up 0.3 on Sunday

    ReplyDelete
  53. Forever is getting more viewers, but less demo actually

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ignore Brad. He's a known troll who pulls this same routine on several different sites.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Exactly. See my answer above for some stats, they are pretty impressive!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I almost quit after episode 4, but I'm so glad I didn't. Around episode 10 it starts to improve hugely because the serialized elements become more and more prominent and the Scooby-Do type missions start to disappear. Now it's simply awesome. For anyone who can't deal with the early eps, I recommend skipping to ep 10, it's around that point that it starts to get better and better.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Can these ratings ever be negative numbers?

Just asking in anticipation of MULANEY's FOX premiere this Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  58. That could work, but it depends on if ABC wants to only do family comedies.
Here's a bold idea: two episodes of Shark Tank each week, one on Tuesday and one on Fridays. Depending on what happens with AOS, it could lead into new comedies, followed by a drama.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I didn't watch it. But I would be interested if it mocks social media.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh. I don't watch those s I wouldn't know.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Pretty sure the closest it can get is zero. But someone's always going to watch a show.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Agree to disagree:
    - Revolution premiered with a 1.8 and didn't hit a 1.5 until its third episode. While the comparison should not be made like this since we need to adjust for the year to year decline (~10%), Laura still didn't do better than Revolution. It is, indeed, less prone to fall a lot more since it is a procedural, but on the other hand, freshman shows are prone to fall more than sophmores so I am not sure how much this really matters.
    - Total viewers, per se, are irrelevant. Usually though, when a show has a lot of these, what it means is that the majority of the 18-49 demo is made by people in the 35-49 spectrum, which are less valuable than the 18-34 ones. So while this is against what people usually think, having a lot of total viewers is usually an indicator of less profitability.
    - Sure, one show has to be lower than the others. But by the same token, one show has to be cancelled to make room for the others.

I don't think Laura is totally dead yet, and even though I thought it would have bombed much harder than it did, I still don't think it looks healthy long term.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I quit after episode 1. I thought it was so bad it wasn't worth persevering with.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love how calling someone "fanboy" has become a substitute for any sort of intelligent argument against his opinion.

By the way, does DC pay people to go all around the internet bashing AoS? I don't see bashing on every single Arrow-related article out there, despite the fact that god knows that show has just as many issues as AoS (and I say that as a fan).

    ReplyDelete
  65. No problem!

I think the weirdest thing was How I Met Your Mother last season going up 0.5 for an episode. Pretty crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Gotham, I agree. I haven't seen a lot of Arrow and Flash bashing, mostly just the stupid in-fandom wars about Olicity and whether or not it has ruined/taken over the show.
In retrospect, though, I remember Brad's name and avatar from TVBTN so yeah, I guess he's just a typical person from that site who says anything that doesn't get a 5.0 rating is pathetic, a flop, should be eaten by the Cancellation Bear, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Looks like he has already slunk away in shame, hence his comment disappearing.

    ReplyDelete
  68. FWIW, some shows on FXX have been below 100,000 viewers and possibly below 50,000. That's about as close to zero as you will get, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  69. After 'Cougar Town' you'd think they would know better.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah, me too. I'm just wondering whether CBS will order a full season for Scorpion and New Orleans this week or whether they will wait to see how Stalker did.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hmm, I must have been thinking of the episodes later in the season. That, and thinking that a reviled show going up against decent competition would have fallen, despite a decent premiere.
I guess we will get a better idea this week.
I don't think total viewers are irrelevant. You can always make money off of someone.
Your example makes theoretical sense, but it's hard to say anything, since we don't know anything specific and might never.
As far as what might replace it, that's a good point, but I think we need to consider that NBC still has a lot of holes to fill. If the show can get a consistent rating, it might help elsewhere on the schedule. In fact, for a few reasons, I'd like to see a network make a play on Saturdays. I could see TMOL getting a similar demo rating on that night,.

    ReplyDelete
  72. As I said above, the next few weeks are key. If TMOL gets a 1.4 or a 1.5 consistently, I think it will be given the back nine. If it gets that at the end of the season, it'll probably be renewed, given what Revolution was doing at the end of last season.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I heard the same from a lot of people, maybe one day i will give it another shot.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Which it does. It's such a great satire must like Kapenk's Suburgatory. She has such a great writing voice, too bad people just don't seem to be watching

    ReplyDelete
  75. Really bad night for ABC. MLS and Selfie are DOA. Damn it Forever :(

    ReplyDelete
  76. CF is still doing amazing with a 2.4 so happy

    ReplyDelete
  77. Maybe the big 4 networks should see now that these Marvel/DC Comic shows aren't exactly ratings hits. It may create brand awareness for the parent company and generate but the ratings are only steady at best?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ugh, series low for SHIELD :(

    ReplyDelete
  79. Shield :( I hope it adjusts up.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Poor AoS :(

    ReplyDelete
  81. Very solid for TV. NBC has to be happy after it opened lower than it usually does. Also, CF is doing almost as good as NCIS. They are at different stages of their spans, obviously, but wow...

    ReplyDelete
  82. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    ReplyDelete
  83. Check any article on EW about Arrow or The Flash. There's always a bunch of people hating in the comment section. Many people hate on Arrow and The Flash and called them "teen shows about high school superheroes". They have obviously never watched the show because Oliver is 30 and Barry is 23/24.
TVBTN has some fun trolls. Brad is just one of the boring ones.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Selfie and MLS are DOA and Forever is definitly done. Poor AoS, I hope it adjusts up.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Wow... Selfie, Forever and MLS........
    Poor ABC...

    ReplyDelete
  86. It seems Manhattan Love Story is going to be the first cancellation.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ugh at Selfie and Manhattan Love Story dragging SHIELD down.

    ReplyDelete

  89. The flop sitcom hour is dragging shield down ouch for forever

    ReplyDelete
  90. I don't really understand why all the critics are hating on Stalker. It's not the best show ever created, but it's hardly as terrible as it's being made out to be.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'll give Mindy and probably New Girl 2 months until they will be below a 1.0...

    ReplyDelete
  92. One of the ABC comedies is definitely the first cancellation of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  93. OK numbers for POI. Nothing spectacular again.

*Sigh* Forever. First two episodes were really good. Not watched the third but it's not gonna get a second season - sad times.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Wow Mindy and new girl are spiralling downwards
Tuesday nights not a great night for fox and abc

    ReplyDelete
  95. Someone of the reviews I've read are pretty pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  96. There is no way SHIELD will get 3rd season with these numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Yeah...if it doesn't improve by next week then it'll be done.
ABC canned Lucky 7 last year after 2 episodes and I'm thinking the same will happen here.

    ReplyDelete
  98. As opposed to The Mysteries of Laura.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Awwww Selfie :( I think it would be smart and fitting if Netflix would pick it up if and wen it gets cancelled. A lot of ironies and great parallels if it does

    ReplyDelete
  100. I read one and just didn't bother reading any others. Content of the review had little to no explanation as to why the show is so bad that you shouldn't watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  101. its numbers are not really that bad. as long as as it doesn't fall below a 1.3 it should do fine

    ReplyDelete
  102. 'The Mysteries of Why Are People Watching This Show'

    ReplyDelete
  103. Arrg so annoying. I wanted the comedies to do well since I am into both of them but, most of all, I wanted Shield to held up well from the already disappointing premiere. Damn it.

Though ABC was the most underwhelming last night, CBS also wasn't particularly impressive. NCIS is finally showing its age. NBC was the only real winner. The Voice is having an excellent season so far after the hiccup against big bang on premiere night. Chicago Fire also continues to do well even accounting for the huge drop at the half hour. I don't even consider FOX a big 4 anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I think it should be fine if it stays in the high ones, anything below that and it's in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  105. 1.7 is actually ok its not bad at all

    ReplyDelete
  106. I think Laura will get a back order, but will not get a second season.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I really like it too , the third episode was really good as well.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Why did ABC think putting two new RomCom's as the lead-in for AoS was a good idea?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Probably for the same reason that ABC thought ordering a series called 'Selfie' was a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I take 1.7 to 1.9 as high ones, 1.4 to 1.6 mid ones, and 1.0 to 1.3 as low ones.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think the show needs better numbers. It's my favorite and i dont want to get canceled :/

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think the show is better than its title...

    ReplyDelete
  113. don't worry its still in the safe zone.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I know they said only 16 episodes for Gotham, but if its' high demo holds they have to be tempted to order a full 22 when their other shows are doing CW level ratings. This is just horrible for FOX.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I've not watched it yet, so I won't pass judgement on its quality. But how many people would have looked at that title and decided to not watch it purely based on the title?

    ReplyDelete
  116. i consider anything below a 1.3 pretty low

    ReplyDelete
  117. Damn, nbiot that viewers matter, but 4.5m for SHIELD are super low. Forever actually rose like a million viewers, despite the drop in the demo.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I don't know but I've heard the same argument used for Cougartown...

    ReplyDelete
  119. Bruno Heller said Gotham's episode order won't be extended no matter how the show does. But I can see Fox ordering a full second season.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Where did you take this number? Why 1.3 and not 1.2 or 1.4? Simply guessing?

    ReplyDelete
  121. summer numbers for ABC

    ReplyDelete
  122. Revenge had a season average 1.5 and was renewed last year. 14 of the 22 episodes were 1.5 or below and it was renewed. If AoS stays in the 1.5-2.0 range it will be renewed.

Also don't underestimate the fact that Disney owns ABC and that ABC does take stock in the Live+3 and Live+7 numbers

    ReplyDelete
  123. I'm just pointing out to the person above that SHIELD is far from the danger zone

    ReplyDelete
  124. 1.7 for AoS?? That seems extremely low.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Can they switch the demo and viewer numbers for Forever?

    ReplyDelete
  126. They might have thought that the success of GOTG and the lead up to Avengers 2 would give AoS a sizable bump that would also help the romcom's (people tuning in early). Unfortunately they've done nothing for AoS and it's all just collapsing.

    ReplyDelete
  127. To be honest, this is the first time ever I've been worried about it (last year, I always had it as a certain renewal, nothing less). It's at 75% of ABC's drama average. While said drama average is at the moment VERY inflated by the huge premieres that happened last week, it's still not very good if Shield settles at 80% or so being a sophomore show still far from syndication. I don't think it's still in any serious danger because it has a lot of other stuff going for it (particularly the M18-34) but I don't like the looks of it right now.

    ReplyDelete
  128. And the first DOA show are in.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Revenge was renewed because of syndication.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I'm so frustrated with ABC's ratings... Can we get another 0.2 adjustment for Forever and AoS? :/

    ReplyDelete
  131. Apparently AVClub had a really bad review on it. Someone mentioned hate-watching when it came to this show...but the subject matter is a bit too dark to even thinking of doing something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  132. don't forget nashvile pretty much for most of last season nashville got below a 1.5 and was still renewed

    ReplyDelete
  133. AoS is probably more expensive than Nashville.

    ReplyDelete
  134. but still i don't think that abc will cancel it unless it falls below a 1.2 which is unlikely

    ReplyDelete
  135. But I guess AoS would manage to get a better syndication deal than Nashville.

    ReplyDelete
  136. That's actually not a bad thing. Usually means that the show was skewing super young and it's more likely that most of its demo audience was 18-34 (aka more valuable to advertisers than the 35-49 portion)

    ReplyDelete
  137. It won't be a matter of renewal just for the 3rd season, but rather for the 3rd and 4th combined for sake of syndication purposes. So while the ratings remain weak, ABC is expected to make a hard decision in May.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Red Band Society was the first DOA show of the season IMO. And Laura's actual timeslot premise was on the same level as these two.

    ReplyDelete
  139. What the F*CK, AoS????!!!!!!!!!!

If it doesn't get adjusted up, that's a series low... granted, it has a long history of adjusting up, but unless it's 4 tenths it's still lower than last week and this is only the second episode of the season. I'm so damn pissed at this. The season premiere is widely agreed to have been awesome, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever for the numbers to dip afterwards, unless people really did tune in just for Lucy Lawless.

I'm going to be blaming and hating on those stupid new comedies now, if you don't mind.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I hope you are right!

    ReplyDelete
  141. So... Forever is a goner now I take it.

    ReplyDelete
  142. It mocks social media addicts more so than social media itself.

    ReplyDelete
  143. And I don't get why Forever went from a 1.8 to a 1.3... I mean, it's not like people was giving it a merciful second chance last Tuesday, the show was up from it's premiere, for God's sake!

    ReplyDelete
  144. I think it was all the "show bailers" and people just sticking the season out to see it ended but had no intention of watching after that is what's causing these kinds of rating. It's too bad to, since this show has gotten 50x better from how it started out.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Unfortunately, Shield actually declined on the half hour so I don't think blaming it on the comedies makes much sense. I hate to say this and it pains me because the show is one of my favorites nowadays but I think it's just not a popular show.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Mindy is actually up from last week.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Unless the title is something as specific as "My Struggle with My Period" or "Ball Sweat: One Man's Endless Problem," I don't think titles are that big of a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Agreed, I stopped watching AoS last season but after reading so many good things about the 2nd half, I binge watched it a few weeks ago. It is so much better and has so many stories to tell. I don't know when Agent Carter is supposed to premiere but I can only hope they would pair it with AoS and not separate the two. They could feed off of each other. These comedies are ridiculous. I am not a fan of sitcoms to begin with and these just remind me why.

    ReplyDelete
  149. One thing to consider is just how well it's doing with men. If it's far and above ABC's best show in that regard, it'll help enormously, since all networks, but especially ABC, struggle with them.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Agent Carter is going to start when AoS is on midseason break.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Wow. I think that's a big mistake. They should have paired the two and promoted them the way they do all things Shonda. (I do not drink the Thursday Night Kool Aide) Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  152. I had that down as the first cancellation of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Well crap for Selfie. It's still my favorite pilot of the year. Guess I'll enjoy the 13 episodes they show.

So this is probably going to be New Girl's last season yeah?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Since when 'The DVR usage is significant' ?

    ReplyDelete
  155. They started factoring it in at the start of the Fall Season.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Don't give up hope *just* yet, shows can sometimes fluctuate wildly - Revenge last season, for example. Plus, 10pm means lower standards. If it doesn't rise in the next couple of weeks than yeah, it's probably a goner.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Sorry, but first you say it dropped because it's lack of promotion during the summer but then you comment that the premiere was inflated due to massive promotion. I watch the show but, honestly I'm not sure for how much longer. I don't want to get into my opinion and upset the dedicated fans (cause I know how that feels to have someone bash my show) but I personally feel the ratings aren't due to promotion one way or the other.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Everything was going fine for them , Forever and AOS was doing decently until they introduced the two new comedies.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I managed to make it through all of season 1. I wish I had stopped at episode 3.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I know usually it's not really the viewers number to count but ChicagoFire lost pretty much 1 million viewers this week... Tha't not a good sign. Killing Shay though was the worst move they could ever do. I used to love Fire, but I'm not anymore. So I'm not sorry it's losing viewers....

    ReplyDelete
  161. Damn it, they have to get SHIELD a decent lead-in. Any idiot could have told ABC that Selfie and MLS weren't going to be a good fit.

    ReplyDelete
  162. And it will not end very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I'm a bit relieved.. Person of Interest hasn't dropped this week. Still, estimated 1.8 isn't great either. I hope it'll stabilize (gaining is rather unlikely, in my opinion, even though I'd love to see that happening) now. :)

    It's such a good show...

    ReplyDelete
  164. Actually,… according to this rating chart, CF is down less than half a million, which I’d say is pretty good considering other shows are dropping a few million in the second ep. But I understand you’re upset Shay is gone. I was angry when Grey’s killed Lexi. I stopped watching after that and I admit I kinda hoped it would flop…lol. But for me there was more going wrong with Grey’s than just one (of my favourites) character dying. That was just the straw that broke the camels back. Chicago Fire made a risky move no doubt, but I think it will survive just fine. I liked Shay but I agree with why they did it. I think we will get some really great stories with her death and I look forward to seeing the talented actors that are still on the show bring the stories to life with what I know will be amazing performances.

    ReplyDelete
  165. How bad is it really looking for Forever? Here the vibe about it still seems pretty positive, but elsewhere I've seen a lot of comments about it being gone by this time or that time, that it was good while it lasted, that sort of thing. I look at the numbers, but I don't really get what they mean as far as the chances for long term survival of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Well for me it's not just Shay... They are turning Kelly into the old Kelly and I really don't like this thing. He grew up so much last season and now he's like he's going back, drinking and sleeping with everyone... Plus they pretty much destroyed my favorite pair (I mean there's still hope, I know tv show change and change all the time, but still...) so right now there are more things I don't like than things I like... That's why I'll stop. The same thing happened to me with PD. By the end of first season there was just three things in the entire show I liked: Sophia Bush, Jon Seda e Jason Beghe... so I stopped! If the things you don't like about it are more than the ones you like there's a problem hahahahahahah

    ReplyDelete
  167. The SERIES premiere, last year, had a crazy 4.7 rating due to massive promotion. The second season, however, didn't receive nearly as much promotion which I believe is being reflected in the ratings.

I'm not saying the level of promotion is the only, or even main factor that determines the numbers. There are other important elements, one of them simply being how good the show is and there's no denying AoS didn't win over a huge audience like ABC expected it to. That being said, I think the fact that ABC's entire Thursday line-up and Once Upon a Time all premiered so high proves that when a network puts real effort into promoting their shows, it pays off.

You won't upset me if you criticize the show. There's criticism and then there's bashing (the latter in the case of AoS would be the stuff like "OMG, who wants to watch a show about a bunch of boring human agents without powers and a few D-list characters from the comics! Give us Iron Man or GTFO!" that people keep posting everywhere). If someone can't handle civil criticism of a show they like, that's their problem.

    ReplyDelete
  168. 1.3 isn't great. It may have higher total viewers than the rest of the ABC lineup , but what matters most is the 18-49 numbers. It got a 1.7 last week so...

    ReplyDelete
  169. The drop at the half hour is AoS's own fault, obviously, but its base audience would've likely still been bigger if it had a higher-rated lead-in, and therefore (again, likely) the audience left at the half hour as well.

But yeah, I don't know what draws me to shows that just can't do well in the ratings. Just look at my profile picture. Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  170. I am pretty sure last season it averaged a 1.9 so a 1.8 is not that bad for the show. I believe it is also up from last week which it got a 1.7 in the final ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  171. thank you,much appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Gotham has not grabbed me, I started to skip sections in episode 2 and it's story is not grabbing me, I think they are trying to hard to make it real world and it doesn't fit, at least AoS,Arrow and Flash have a sci fi/comic feel to it. I love both Marvel and DC, but I am a bigger DC.
