Good riddance to the terminus cannibals. No sympathy for you. Glad they got killed finally and didn't drag all out this season. Especially after what they did to poor Bob. Although I would have liked to have seen them become infected after eating his leg. They deserved that too.
Of course, I have to talk about the Gareth & Co. death scene! How brutal (and wonderfully awesome) was that? When Rick began hacking at Gareth's neck w/that machete . . . . my sister and I were cheering!! And the way Abraham beat down his guy w/the rifle/gun?!?! That was awesome! And Sasha repeatedly stabbing that one guy in the neck?!!? Oh my goodness!! They went HAM on those cannibal freaks! I loved it!!!!
I was not surprised at Father Gabriel's secret. The message on the wall and the boarded up windows led me to believe he had probably locked himself inside, and given how scared he is, I knew he probably hadn't allowed in any survivors. I am not familiar w/the comics so I'm curious to see what they plan to do w/him.
Poor Bob! I liked the "tainted meat" scene, but I was sad to see Bob go. I grew to like him, and he and Sasha were really cute together.
I was so happy to see Michonne get her kitana back!! I know she was happy to "lose" it, but I'm glad it is back to its rightful owner.
I do wonder why Abraham is so desperate to get to DC. Is it just me or does anyone else doubt that Eugene really has a cure? I don't trust that Eugene has the answers, but I guess we'll find out.
And I guess Maggie just assumes her sister is dead? Her lack of interest in her own sister is strange.
Anyway, that was an awesome episode!!! Can't wait for next week!
Farewell, Gareth and the rest of the Terminus cannibals! Even though you only lasted four episodes, you were definitely one of the creepiest villains this show has ever had. Bravo! Their death scene was so damn intense and Rick getting all the furious vengeance once and for all was so great. Also, Rick finally using the machete with the red handle that he told Gareth he was going to kill him with was so badass.
Michonne got her beautiful katana back! It just didn't feel right with her not having it so I was so damn happy she got it back! Take that, Gareth!
Goodbye, Bob! :( You weren't one of my favorite characters on the show but the scene where he died and Sasha was with him until his last breath was so damn moving that it almost brought me tears. So emotional. And this confirms the theory that Bob was bitten in the food bank and infected Gareth and the cannibals! HA! That's what you get.
Why did Abraham want to split up the group and just head on to Washington D.C without them? So stupid. He needs everyone in the group to protect Eugene at all costs so he can tell them the cure (doubt he has one but we'll see).
I was wondering where Daryl and Carol were throughout the episode so when we saw Daryl in the final minutes of the episode, I was so relieved to find out that he was okay. But who's behind him?! Carol? And where the hell is Beth?! Can't wait to find out next week.
I was so glad to see Rick finally "I made you a promise" Gareth, I blocked out most of the episode. RIP Bob, Poor Sasha and WTF are Daryl and Carol were all I was left with.
Another great episode although I do regret Maggie and Glenn going with Abraham to DC on some level. I guess since we will probably keep following Abraham's group even if they were alone it will be nice to have Maggie and Glen with them. That said, I was quite happy to finally have all parts of the group back together in one place!
Okay odd. Who would be hiding in the bushes while Daryl checked out the church? Carol would be out with him not hiding. Is Beth back? Is it someone new?
I respected Rick's decision to slaughter the Termites! A rush to violence may not be the answer to everything in a zombie apocalypse, but an occasional massacre can relieve some tension I bet!
JJ, I had the same thought about Abraham. I know he wants to go to DC, but did he need to leave immediately? What was up w/that? He could have waited. That was just weird, and now the group has split up again! I'm upset w/Maggie and Glenn for going off w/them!
I also don't have any sympathy for the Terminites! Yes, it is bad what happened to them, but they can't use that incident to justify eating innocent people who have caused them no harm. Rick was right when he suggested they go back to kill them in the premiere. Those cannibals had to go b/c they would just continue to eat innocent people.
Quite upset Gareth is dead! Understand it had to be done but man oh man what an actor! That guy definitely rivaled The Governor for me. I'm not saying he's better, but definitely as good in his own way. Was hoping we'd have him as a villain for half the season or a recurring villain throughout the season. Will definitely miss his acting!
I think it was Morgan with Darryl. That's my two cents.
Bad ass Rick is bad f***ing ass! It's probably wrong that I got such a sense of delight when Rick & Co. were killing the Terminus cannibals, but damn it if they didn't deserve it, although they also deserved to turn. Loved seeing that play out.
Aside from that, the episode was a little on the slower side, but still carrying on Season 4's better storytelling ability so the drama was well done.
Looking forward to finding out what's exactly been going on with Beth. I'm guessing Daryl found her and that's who he told to come on out at the end (in which case, means Rick & Co. will be able to catch up to Abraham & Co. sooner), but I'm worried that it's only Beth and not Beth and Carol. Curious if Carol doesn't make it, or she ends up leaving like she was trying to when Daryl stopped her.
I think they killed the cannibals too easily. They should have made those freaks suffer a slow death.
Someone really needs to call Eugene out on the whole Washington thing. And Abraham needs to step down. It was completely idiotic to be rushing to leave at night like that. And I was surprised Glen and Maggie went along with it.
Father Gabriel's story really wasn't a shocker. What is a shocker is that he is still so shocked by zombies and everything else.
I'm so glad Michonne got her sword back. Best moment.
I predict Beth came back with Daryl and Carol at the end of this episode and next week will focus on Beth's story for most of the episode until D & C rescue her and bring her home.
The show keeps topping itself. I loved Gareth and companies, comeuppance. Really liked it. I think Rick, served justice gladiator style, and he and Sasha, were really into it. I totally think Rick would kill Abraham if necessary. And...Abraham was making me want Rick to do just that. Glenn is on my nerves (he, Tyreese, Tara, and Maggie, were appalled by Rick and the others massacre of the Termites), and I can't believe Maggie, has no concern for her sister. Maggie and Glenn leaving with Abraham is not cool either. Tara acts like she, Glenn, and Maggie, are a threesome. At first I thought It was Morgan with Daryl but, now I think it's Beth, and what we'll see of Beth will be flashbacks. I am concerned that Carol did not make it back from Beth's rescue. I hope she did, though.
Maggie's lack of concern re: her sister is beginning to bug me. What is up w/that? Is she at all interested in what happened to her own sister? She didn't even protest going to DC. It's like she's forgotten all about Beth. I'm no Beth fan, but that is ridiculous!
I can forgive the wanting to leave right away since there was a clear and present danger. But then they went and killed all of the cannibals so I don't get why they couldn't sit tight for another day seeing as the threat had been eradicated.
fantastic ep and close the Hunters plotline, and I liked the adaptation from the comics that played out.... I was thinking that Sasha might end up in danger and Tyreese would have to overcome his nonviolence stance to save her, but it didn't work out that way. I can't help feeling that unless he's able to overcome that, it might lead to his or someones demise sooner or later... the ambush within an ambush was such a well executed and incredibly intense scene... I love how Rick made good on his promise to Gareth and that Michonne got back her sword as it would be hard not to see her without her iconic weapon.. bummer that the group had to break up, albeit temporarily but nice that Daryl and ?? made it back and that we will fill in the blanks next week.... rip Bob, and I guess this could make room for the reurn of Morgan, perhaps? I can't wait
Maggie is a good character with a sane head. It's not like she has a history of this kind of behavior. I blame the writing for this monumental stupidity that started in the back 8 of S4. The writers have dropped the ball on this one.
Great episode. RIP Bob. I find it funny how they have to introduce a new black character everytime they kill off a black character. Tyrese joins the team soon after T Dog dies; Gabriel joins the team just before Bob dies; I heard a rumor that Tyrese may bite the dust, just a rumor, but if it is true, it will be around the time Morgan and/or the character that played Chris in Everybody Loves Chris is integrated into the team.
Last year most of the final 8 episodes were bottled ones where we followed different groups each week. Some of these episodes were good while some were awful. But there was an end goal towards which all were headed - Terminus. So, we the viewers, were hopeful that the group would meet again and be one as a team. At least, for me, that was the primary motivation for bearing with the bottle episodes.
Now, the writers/creators have broken up the group again. I smell another round of bottle episodes coming up. And I am very apprehensive about it. If they start dipping into the bottle episodes more and more, I could very well lose interest in the show completely. At least Daryl, Carol and Beth are somewhere nearby and have a chance of reconnecting with Rick and co. OTOH, Abraham took along Glenn and Maggie with his group towards D.C - unless Rick and the others start after them soon or something happens to delay Abraham and co. on the road, I find it hard to believe that the groups could meet up again.
TL;DR: I absolutely hate that the group is split up again. I also hate an abundance of bottle episodes.
Did they have to make the BOB-B-Q scene so freaking long? They were licking their chops like it was surf and turf but .... ugghhh .... and then he starts yelling "tainted meat". Should not have had steak for dinner. No steak on Sundays from now on. Erma Gerd.
"I am not familiar w/the comics so I'm curious to see what they plan to do w/him"
Believe it or not...Father Gabriel is still ALIVE in the comics...he stays with Rick's group but he's Hardly seen or heard in the comics...he becomes like a nobody...i cant remember the last time i saw him...and im current with the comics, IDK, maybe AMC has other plans with him...☺...
well, hang on to ur hat cause epi 504 will be a Beth Bottle Epi, lol...and dont worry bout Abe with Maggie&Glenn, they wont get too far out...they will be back all together in a few Epi's before the Mid-Season Finale...☺...
Totally agree! I'm actually WAY more upset by Gareth's death than Bob's. His character had such depth and had so many facets, he constantly kept us guessing. It's rare for a character to be so captivating, especially when they're the villain. I absolutely expected him to last at least half of the season, if not the entire season, and the potential was definitely there. I guess they were afraid of trying to drag it out like they did with the Governor, as by the time he was killed, people were saying that he should have died a long time ago. But, I think it would have been (or at least had the potential to be) a completely different situation with Gareth. Sure, Gareth had to die at some point, and I'm not saying they should have dragged it out like they did the Governor, but unlike the Governor, despite who he was and what he had done/was doing, Gareth was likeable (way more than the Governor ever was) which made him infinitely more dangerous, but also somehow made you excited to see him again. We all knew he was psychotic, but there were a lot of people that liked him either as a villain or in spite of it.
I actually have a theory that we may see Gareth again in some flashbacks. At the end of episode 2, they showed the mark on the tree, then in this episode, Gareth tells Bob about how they'd left marks so that they could find their way back and at first I thought they meant back to Terminus, but that doesn't make any sense that they would mark the tree by the church, because they'd only just gotten to the church and hadn't gone past it. I'm wondering if he meant the path back to wherever they were before Terminus... maybe back to where Beth is being held. Or, maybe Father Gabriel knows them... or doesn't realize that he does, but at some point they came knocking on the doors and windows of the church. It just seems weird that they would make such a big deal out of the mark on the tree if it didn't have more relevance than just for a couple episodes.
I also think that it's Morgan that Daryl brought back. If it was Carol or Beth, he wouldn't have to tell them that it was alright to come out. On the other hand, the last time we saw Morgan, he was beyond paranoid and didn't trust anyone. Something's brought him out, maybe he's looking for Rick, but I can imagine him being skittish towards new environments and people. I don't think he'd remember Michonne because he only had the one moment of clarity in 'Clear' and that was spent focused on Rick; even if he did remember her, it's dark out and he might not realize it's her at first look.
I don't think Tyreese would just hang back and allow himself to be killed though. He fought off all those walkers when Martin forced him out of the cabin so I think he can still protect himself and others but he may not get violent unless he absolutely must.
Gareth was a narcissistic sociopath. There is no way the writers could have justified keeping him around this season. No way they could have justified RIck allowing him to live. The actor was good but that doesn't justify keeping the character long term. There are villains we love, love to hate and hate to love. Gareth was not one of those.
I never even thought about it being Morgan but that would be kind of awesome and interesting to see. I agree it definitly wasn't Carol because Darryl seemed off somehow and hesitant to come out of that bush at first not like he normally would run right back to the group. But I want my Carol back too.
MARTIN QUESTION: who else thinks Martin sort of wanted to die? He still had a conscience, right? He told Tyreese to "just take the car & go" & then "I don' want to do this today" & his final words were something about making a choice (he looked sad) and his las words I think were: "Are we done?"
No, Bob was going to the woods to die; not after Carol. That was a coincidence. Bob's character took the storyline from Dale int he comics; and Dale went into the woods to die alone after being bitten.
YES -- did not understand that at all. They just went through hell to find each other, and now they're going to split up again? Doesn't ring true. Plus the fact that Abraham is basing this whole tough-guy mission on a semi-mute dude with a mullet ... how do they even know this guy's for real? He hasn't explained much of anything. Glenn and Maggie are way smarter than that. Boooooo is right. But I agree that Tara (pigtail girl) is a total redshirt.
And yeah, it really freaks me out to see Papa Rick cradling his sweet baby daughter knowing that he's also this bloodthirsty killing machine. Interesting how he's not only come to adopt Shane's outlook, but (at this point) gone SO far beyond it. Though it does show that he was right to want to go back and eliminate everyone at Terminus.
Ii think it might be that new character Noah we've been reading about. It can't be Beth, nor Carol. Darryl would call them by name. Morgan is a great guess!
I'm really sort of surprised that given the church w Gabriel, they didn't dot the lines between the cannibals & the figurative consumption of "the flesh" of Jesus. Maybe AMC thought that was going too far? But it's sort of a "duh" don't you think?
Not really. It's not the style of story they're trying to tell. It's also not the reason behind Gareth and friends cannibalistic ways. They were hungry and they were psycho's and sociopath's. Nothing religious behind their motivations.
I'm not too happy that Glenn and Maggie went with Abe. Why did he choose them? I get that they were a packaged deal, so he couldn't just take one without the other, but why take them at all? Also, why not have Tara go with them? I mean, she was in their little group and she seems to be able to handle herself in a fight--compared to how she was when we first saw her. I don't know, I just think it's stupid that they split up. I get that they may have been a little freaked by the aggression Rick and the other's took to killing the Termites, but at least in Rick's case, he has his kid's to think about and Gareth basically threatened them.
Mary, I have serious doubts about Eugene. I definitely don't believe he has a cure so I'm upset w/Glenn and Maggie for going w/them. I don't even know why Abraham wanted them all to come so bad.
I think Rick has come far, but I still can't see him doing some of the stuff Shane did. He is definitely harder though. You'd have to be to survive in a ZA.
im afraid it's much too early for it to be Aaron yet....in the comics, they meet Aaron the same day that they find out the truth bout Eugene...also in the tv show, they wont get to ASZ till epi x510...and we have to wait for the Beth Hospital storyline to end before they continue their trip...☺...
Lolol...that's ok...i read the comics but had forgotten what happened after the Hunters and before they reach Alexandria so i went to Wiki and caught up real fast...if u have the time, they recap the issues real fast and u can catch up with the rest of us, lol... here's the Link:
One thing I remember saying to myself as they all walked away from Terminus was "DANG, that is one huge group!" So I'm guessing from a writing/storytelling standpoint, it's more efficient to break them up. But I totally agree that the way it all came together just felt kinda clunky and implausible, not to mention way too soon.
I also agree about Rick. I think maybe (?) the point that distinguishes him is that Shane, and several others, went from zero-to-bloodthirsty pretty quickly; whereas Rick has tried -- hard -- to hang onto whatever shred of humanity he can. As you say, the stakes get higher as time goes on in a ZA, and being ruthless can be the only real way to survive. Interesting how it really blurs the lines for Rick as a character.
You mean Tara the looks that has a crush on Maggie, right? because she is a lesbian, and Glenn is like her brother! I think it was stupid to split the group again, because of course that will bring more problems and more people dying...anyway, i don't think Tara will die..she is mostly safe..at least on this season

Red-handled Machete > Gareth.
Saw this commercial during the episode and thought it was fun...

I'm wondering if he meant the path back to wherever they were before Terminus... maybe back to where Beth is being held. Or, maybe Father Gabriel knows them... or doesn't realize that he does, but at some point they came knocking on the doors and windows of the church. It just seems weird that they would make such a big deal out of the
mark on the tree if it didn't have more relevance than just for a couple
episodes.
That Gareth is a real psycho.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Tyreese would just hang back and allow himself to be killed though. He fought off all those walkers when Martin forced him out of the cabin so I think he can still protect himself and others but he may not get violent unless he absolutely must.
ReplyDeleteThey should have, but Abraham was bound and determined to leave right then and there. I'm not sure why.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm guessing AMC may have more plans for him than that :-)
ReplyDeleteGareth was a narcissistic sociopath. There is no way the writers could have justified keeping him around this season. No way they could have justified RIck allowing him to live. The actor was good but that doesn't justify keeping the character long term. There are villains we love, love to hate and hate to love. Gareth was not one of those.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I think Carol and Beth are together. Daryl is happy and smiling, and he wouldn't be if anything happened to Carol.
ReplyDeleteI never even thought about it being Morgan but that would be kind of awesome and interesting to see. I agree it definitly wasn't Carol because Darryl seemed off somehow and hesitant to come out of that bush at first not like he normally would run right back to the group. But I want my Carol back too.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss Gareth. Who else has been comical or wry in this show, huh?
ReplyDeleteMARTIN QUESTION: who else thinks Martin sort of wanted to die? He still had a conscience, right? He told Tyreese to "just take the car & go" & then "I don' want to do this today" & his final words were something about making a choice (he looked sad) and his las words I think were: "Are we done?"
ReplyDeleteNo, Bob was going to the woods to die; not after Carol. That was a coincidence. Bob's character took the storyline from Dale int he comics; and Dale went into the woods to die alone after being bitten.
ReplyDeleteYES -- did not understand that at all.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, it really freaks me out to see Papa Rick cradling his sweet baby daughter knowing that he's also this bloodthirsty killing machine.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sort of surprised that given the church w Gabriel, they didn't dot the lines between the cannibals & the figurative consumption of "the flesh" of Jesus. Maybe AMC thought that was going too far? But it's sort of a "duh" don't you think?
ReplyDeleteNot really. It's not the style of story they're trying to tell. It's also not the reason behind Gareth and friends cannibalistic ways. They were hungry and they were psycho's and sociopath's. Nothing religious behind their motivations.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too happy that Glenn and Maggie went with Abe. Why did he choose them? I get that they were a packaged deal, so he couldn't just take one without the other, but why take them at all? Also, why not have Tara go with them? I mean, she was in their little group and she seems to be able to handle herself in a fight--compared to how she was when we first saw her.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I just think it's stupid that they split up. I get that they may have been a little freaked by the aggression Rick and the other's took to killing the Termites, but at least in Rick's case, he has his kid's to think about and Gareth basically threatened them.
I saw somewhere someone suggested it may be Aaron, or some other representative from the Alexandria Safe Zone.
ReplyDeleteThe Safe Zone would be in the same direction as DC so maybe the timing would fit for that comic book plot to hit the show now?
And there was really nowhere else to go w/Gareth. He liked to eat people. That was his story. There's not much else to say about that.
ReplyDeleteMary, I have serious doubts about Eugene. I definitely don't believe he has a cure so I'm upset w/Glenn and Maggie for going w/them. I don't even know why Abraham wanted them all to come so bad.
ReplyDeleteI think Rick has come far, but I still can't see him doing some of the stuff Shane did.
ReplyDeleteGood to know!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the comics so I was just going on what I read somewhere..
That'll teach me! XD

ReplyDeleteI also agree about Rick.

ReplyDeleteAMC has no plans for him, but I'm hoping the writers of The Walking Dead show have plans for him.
ReplyDeleteOops. Yes, of course, TWD team/crew.
