  1. !Awful. Horrible. The worst season opener I've seen. WTF Carver? NOTHING HAPPENED!

  2. I loved it. I thought it was great. Demon Dean seems very conflicted. Not sure what Crowley is up to and who is the guy that grabbed Sam. Worried about Castiel and Hannah hasn't learned anything. She wants order, but doesn't seem to understand that some angels liked the new life they found. Looking forward to finding out what happens from here.

  3. Would have been a lot better with more Demon Dean on the screen - it's what I've been waiting for.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Demon Dean was great, but I wish there was more about him and him doing more stuff than just drinking and fighting. The angel stuff just dragged and was boring and brought the whole episode to a standstill. Carver doesn't seem to understand what makes an episode exciting. Bah.
The episode should have been better and using Demon Dean would have made it better. But instead we got over saturated with the angel storyline which hasn't been exciting since season 4.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This is the happiest I have been with this show in a while.

  6. Good episode but it dragged a little. I love Castiel but I really have no interest in the Angel storyline.

Loved everything Crowley but that's my usual.

I know they had to put all their pieces in play but the ending is what really made the episode for me. I was shocked that Dean just left Sam to die...that's cold.

The promo was even better...Dean's gone Dark side.

  7. Awful, I was so dissapointed, and found myself zoning out a lot, I'll have to watch it again, b/c I just kept rewinding and rewinding, and it still didn't help me pay attention Once i got half way through.

On the plus side, I like Sam, and Castiel, and when Crowley was talking to Sam over the phone and he was saying all those things, I wanted to punch the writers in the face. They were sooSooo doing that to us on purpose. LOL That struck a nerve with me, iI was all, FU PTB!!

Amazing!!! :D Demon!Dean is awesome and that´s my Sammy!! Dean's last scene with Ann Marie is completely absurd. She and that scene destroys the essence of Demon!Dean... But I love the episode, Jensen and Jared are epic!! ♥

  9. I have to say, I found the retrospective so much better than this boring season premiere. Nothing happened.

SPN killed all the hype I got watching The Flash.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I enjoyed the Dean & Sam parts but this was one of the worst season premieres ever. Enough with the angel storyline (Castiel yes, but i seriously dont care about the other angels)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I haven't watched it yet, but the lack of "talk" about it speaks volumes for me. I have not been pleased w/Carver's handling of the show, and I honestly doubt my opinion will change this season. I'm taping for now and will check to the boards to see if I should actually start watching again.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Demon Dean & Crowley were great, but of course since Dean is now a demon, we didn't get any true emotions from "Dean" and that was frustrating. Jensen did a great job playing this cold, ruthless, and emotionless character who never showed underlying vulnerability or compassion - very different from the real Dean. I'm interested to know what this Cole guy is all about and what his history is with Dean.

As much as I do like Cas, we did not need him in this episode. The angel storyline shouldn't get equal time as the Winchester storyline, IMO. The premiere episode should have focused on Sam's storyline and Dean's storyline exclusively, and introduce Cas/angels storyline in the next episode. The brothers separation would have made more of an impact if the focus was on that exclusively IMO.

I appreciate Sam's intensity and determination looking for Dean but did he ever just... try to call Dean's phone while he was looking for him all this time? Cuz, Dean did answer his phone without much hesitation, LOL. Just sayin'. C'mon writers.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have to go with this one. This was a new low for season premieres. There was nothing interesting that happened in the whole episode. Bad writing. Bad directing. Bad all around.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Demon Dean shouldn't have been conflicted though. Demons in the SPN universe are souls who have been tortured so long that they've forgotten what it means to be human. What was the point of making Dean a demon if they weren't going to make him a demon? If they just wanted something to make him lose his inhibitions, why not a spell or a curse?

    ReplyDelete
  15. But DD has not forgotten being human. HIs memories are untouched as per cast interviews. He remembers everything. What the point of making Dean an ordinary, stereotypical demon? Don't we have thouse enoeght?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Pain. So much pain aside from the hilarious karaoke scenes (please keep that up).

And I am loving Demon Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  17. But Dean isn't like any other demon in the SPN universe. He became a demon because he died with the Mark of Cain, not because he was in hell being tortured. I think he still has some humanity left in him. And while now the demon in Dean is dominant, the more time goes by, the human part that remains in Dean might start to fight the demon part, maybe?

Right now the demon in Dean is in control. But maybe there will be some cracks that can be exploited and Dean's humanity can find a way to slip out and battle against the demon part. I think it's an interesting situation for Dean. It's just that the show needs to explore that aspect of Dean's storyline in the next episodes, rather than focus on the angel storyline IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  18. But why call him a demon then? Demons have a special place in the Winchester history. They are the ultimate evil that killed their mother. Dean was just an exaggerated version of Dean in this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Am I the only one who caught that feeding the mark stops him from becoming a full on demon?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Don't get me wrong, the angel storyline bored me to tears, but as I responded below, demons in the Winchester world are supposed to be YED, the evil that killed their mother. If they wanted to try a different effect with Dean that still kept part of his humanity, they should have come up with a different plan.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't know. First off, YED was a separate kind of demon.

Also, Cain was obviously a different kind of demon. How much more "different" could it be?

    ReplyDelete
  22. But they did exactly that by giving Dean the Mark of Cain. IMO that is a very interesting approach to take.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Maybe? No idea what you're talking about. How would killing stop him from becoming evil?

    ReplyDelete
  24. sd -

I'm pretty sure we are in agreement. That was for chris.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I thought the mark of Cain was interesting given dean's issues with seeing himself as a murderer. Demon though has different associations in the Winchester history.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And the mark predates any of that history.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I thought Cain was an interesting character, but I thought calling him a demon was another mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He knew Sam was on his tail. It was deal with him by taking that call or deal with him in person down the line.

There is no telling how many calls he didn't take during the six months we didn't see.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nope. I caught that, too. In the same way Cain was able to keep his demonic tendencies in check, Dean isn't an everyday normal demon. I liked the set-up. He's still Dean, but a Dean without a filter. He wasn't going to let the hunter hold Sam against him, but he was still enough Dean to jump to the waitresses defense. Forcefully. I haven't watched regularly for the last couple seasons, but they have my attention so far. I don't give a hoot about Castiel and the angels, but putting focus back where it belongs -- on the Winchesters -- is a good start.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't have the heart or the energy to list everything wrong with this episode. I'll just say Jeremy Carver wrote it. Make of that what you will.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I haven't been able to watch it yet. I've read a couple of comments though and I'm just hoping that people were telling lies and that we don't have another boring angel sub plot... AGAIN! At least I know that I may have to lower my expectations a little.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It was good, not Awesome, just good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It was... okay, just okay! I was expecting a little bit more from Demon Dean, but I knew he would be conflicted. That is a good thing, then Sam can save him!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I.. actually like this one.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think was good, but I think they need a big arc, because just Demon Dean drama will make this season weak.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I liked the episode. Far from perfect but fun enough and I like the direction (so far). 7.5/10 from me.

Piecing together everything Carver has stated about season 10 it sounds like while there will be bag guys, this season will have NO "end of the world" storylines or major villains. He said the season is about family and putting Sam and Dean's relationship back together. It is also stated that the first half of the season will see the brothers on the road a lot.

This may disappoint some people but I'm very curious and at least some what optimistic about this season. I like that it's different and was getting kind of tired of the standard "villain of the season" storyline. It may be good at this point just to watch the brothers finally work together and hunt things like in season one and two. That's my hope anyways!

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's the point, though. Crowley even mentioned it's STILL Dean, but with a more twisted soul.

    ReplyDelete
  38. no inhibitions basically?

    ReplyDelete
  39. He was just an over exagerated version of Dean, I didnt see the point. I thought they played the whole Soulless Sam idea better. This comes across more as pandering to Dean/Jensen fans than an actual clever and interesting theme to be explored.

    ReplyDelete
  40. more like just on Dean, I thought Sam was pretty pointless as usual

    ReplyDelete
  41. Demon Dean is just a Dean without any inhibitions. The Crowley line about the dog to Sam was just petty and passive aggressive writing and not something the show is a position to do after what Dean did last year .

    ReplyDelete
  42. You could also say Crowley doesnt fit the usual Demon stereotype either, he's a different kind of demon too that they have been exploring for many years now. They even went there with Ruby in season 3 to some extent. I dont think Demon Dean is anything different to what we've seen before in the past with demons and soulless Sam to tell you the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  43. God I hope we get Abel this season, would love to explore the other side of the story and the icing on the cake would be for Cain to have been wrong all along. I hated the whole bullshit spiel that he ended up where he was because he sacrificed himself for his brother, it should have been he ended up like that because he was being punished for not trusting/believing in and ultimately killing his brother. But that will never happen because that might imply that Dean was in the wrong about something.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Good episode. But can anybody explain me why Cas was dying alone in a motel room? Why he is not at the bunker with Sammy?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wonder how that parts going to play out now that Dean is actually going to be a murderer as apposed to just thinking he was. I imagine the guilt is going to be epic even for Dean after all Carver cant say that Dean is still Dean (still has his soul) and then absolve him of anything bad he does now by just having someone tell him that he wasnt himself? How are they going to get around that? Are we going to be in for boatloads of guilt from Dean? I wonder how this all affects his soul?

    ReplyDelete
  46. because he doesnt belong there and he has his own storyline?

    ReplyDelete
  47. The writers hate Sam, Carver really hates Sam. Why not just write him out?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Which is? Nobody told us why he is alone and why he is far from Sam and from other angels. His storyline atm is that he is dying. Hannah has all the angels at her feet and yet goes for help to the powerless dying one. Nonsense and lazy writing for Cas, as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I still have to understand why we have to endure another Cas/angels storyline. They had the perfect excuse to lock all the angels in heaven again and leave just Cas with Sam, but no...poor Hannah needs help to gather all her lost sheeps. Sig.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hm, maybe season 5.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yep. Do that. I don't know how the writers still don't understand that people love Cas and hate all the angels.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes! I love Cas and Misha. But I don't care about angel drama. We've had angel drama since season 4! Every darn year pretty much. It's getting to the point that I wouldn't hate the idea of Cas being written out just so we can get rid of the Angel plots. But I'd prefer if we could keep Cas though and still get rid of the Angel plot lines.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I watch spn because of Castiel, but I'm starting to believe that if the writers are unable to give him an excuse to be with the brothers, but not in all the 23 episodes, maybe the best thing is kill him before people start to hate him. Good job, writers, good job.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I know it was supposed to be an introduction to Demon!Dean, and I guess
they succeeded in that, but otherwise the story didn't move forward at
all. They should have at least given us some clues about what's going to
happen. Good episode, good acting, great storyline, but bad writing.
Just like a pilot episode, season opener should pull people in to watch the show. It was good, but not great.

    ReplyDelete
  55. No idea. Looks like it was a failed plot device to make it easier for the angels to come and get him.. I could be wrong, though. Also, does Sam know how badly Cas is doing? (I really need to rewatch this episode.)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not good... I thought this season may have had promise with the twist at the end of Season 9. I'm thinking that was wishful thinking now.

    ReplyDelete
  57. When are we going to see Dark!Sam? In the flashbacks? He seemed to be doing really well in this episode, almost like nothing had happened in the past few months, except for an unusually intense fight with a demon (that was written in to explain Jared's shoulder injury).

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm slightly worried. I hope the story gets more intense as the season progresses. My fear is that "casual" fans will have lost interest by then.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh come on, that was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't think we'll see much more of the funny side of Demon!Dean. At least that's what I got from the last couple of minutes of this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't even bother to hate them anymore. They're too boring to even be hated.

    ReplyDelete
  62. This episode is going to need a rewatch. I loved it, but it definitely felt a little off. I'm sure they'll build on all the storylines as the season goes on, but we totally knew most of what happened in the episode from promo clips and interviews. It was also weird knowing one brother was totally different now, plus they were seperated and Cas wasn't with Sam or Dean either. I did love Crowley and Dean's bond and Jensen is killing it as Demon Dean. It was still enjoyable and I will always say that any supernatural is better than none at all!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I honestly thought this was the best they've written Sam as Sam in a long time. "I'm going to save my brother or die trying." His entire conversation with Crowley, he didn't back down, he told him specifically what he was going to do. Sam and the last minute with Dean in the Impala was the only thing redeemable about this episode for me.

    ReplyDelete
  64. But why in the name of Chuck does Hannah-the-moron want to bring fallen angels in heaven? They were fishing, not raping goats or anything bad, leave them be!

    ReplyDelete
  65. But Dean isn't a typical Demon. I don't understand why people think his personality would be gone when he wasn't taken over but changed. He isn't just a demon using a meat suit. He is still in there.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thank you. People are acting like Dean is a typical demon but he isn't. He isn't just a meat suit being worn by a demon. His personality and memories are still there. Cain was a demon but he wasn't a typical demon so there is no reason to think Dean would be either.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just my feelings, but I thought Azazel/YED was a fallen angel. I thought he fell with Lucifer (he backed his play when Michael threw him out of heaven); I thought in Lucifer Rising, when we saw Azazel take the priest and then Azazel killed the nuns to open a "door" so he could talk to Lucifer he called Lucifer "father" and seemed so devoted (some ancient tradition says Azazel was the "angel/demon" who taught men murder and war AND had sex with human women which would explain where Meg and Tom came from) BUT of course this was never spelled out. Lillith was First Demon but Azazel was the boss of hell when the show starts. Anybody got a different idea?

Oh YES to you: Cain was a different kind of demon: he CHOSE to go to hell, so while he had demon powers AND the First Blade he wasn't a demon-demon which is a human soul which "falls" and then gets transformed in Hell and BECOMES a demon. Again, I KNOW that nobody really knows, I am just giving my opinion because it's the only way the story line makes sense to me.

    ReplyDelete
  68. There is supposed to be a Flashback in episode 3 other than that I dont think we'll see that much and I doubt there will be any follow on for that storyline once they've told the audience what he did and Dean has told Sam off over it. It'll be over before demon Dean is cured I recon.

    ReplyDelete
  69. you should read Carver's latest interviews all abnout how awesome Dean and Crowley are together and how Sam basically has no morals and is the real monster.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Carver said it would be explained in the prmier so whatever it was (the explanation) that was it. I think it was basically a poor excuse to not upset the Dean/Cas fans and because heaven forbid Sam actually have any support from anyone ever.

    ReplyDelete
  71. for Dean fans maybe

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'd really rather they not be together, they should be working on who they are away from each other and with other people otherwise we just end up back at square one and nothing ever changes.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have read/heard that the writers/show runners KNOW Castiel is popular but suffer from the problem of how to deal with him in regular episodes. He is too powerful when he is an angel.

So in Season 4 we had him slowly falling into line with Dean's aspirations, but full-on angel who really didn't come when called because angel-bosses were trying to manipulate Dean into being Heaven's B****; then we had angel-cut-off from Heaven in Season 5 who couldn't cure Bobby (he said he couldn't do some things but of course those things were what would forward the plot), then we had angel-leader-fighting- Raphael AND conspiring with Crowley; then we had blowed-up-real-good-Castiel after Godstiel; and THEN we had Crazy-Castiel (actually my favorite, "I follow the bees") who just didn't want to do anything but still fully powered-up who continued in Season 8 due to Naomi; now we have mostly-human Castiel. Again with the mostly-human Castiel. So bring back Crazy Castiel in my opinion, who always stepped too close to Dean and didn't know what to do when porn came on TV. That guy was fun, and you never knew what he was going to do.

Hannah drives me crazy, if only because she demanded that Castiel kill Dean last season. Boo Hiss.

    ReplyDelete
  74. After the amazing season nine finale, I was expecting soooo much better than what we got. This was one of the most boring season premieres we've gotten throughout the Supernatural run and I was/still am disappointed. With all the buildup about Demon Dean, I expected there to be more focus on him outside of him getting drunk, beating people up, and singing horrific karaoke songs. Instead, we got more lame ass angel stuff. I am sick of that storyline and it seems that others are as well. They had a chance to close that arc when the angels went back to heaven and yet they are continuing to drag it out, which in turn made what could have been an awesome season premiere just somewhat good.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Demon Dean. I really like that they aren't playing his as some soul that has been beaten and corrupted over years and instead just made him an emotional void of his former self. It was very believable and Jensen totally delivered. I'm glad that he is finally been given a chance to take Dean to a different level. I got insanely bored with it being Sam all of the time.

Something I'm curious about, why haven't they mentioned anything about the souls that were trapped on Earth while heaven was locked? Are we just supposed to forget that Kevin was one of those souls? I know that Dean couldn't care less but what about Sam? What about the angels? Are we to assume that all was well when the angels went back to heaven and that all of the Earth bound souls went there as well?

Overall, I feel that bad and/or lazy writing made for a very dull premiere. This episode was just so-so for me. Maybe I'll feel differently when I rewatch it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I can't second this enough. The Angels storyline has to go. It has been the same plot, repeated over and over, since they were introduced. Kill them all or lock them away somewhere so we never have to see them again.

    ReplyDelete
  76. when Sam has the mytharc we have endless Dean on screen so it makes sense that now Dean has the mytharc we have lots of Sam on screen. I thought the episode lacked Sam honestly, I found myself bored with the angels and embarrassed for the writers and Jensen over the demon Dean storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  77. The trouble is Sam does not have other people .There is a serious vaccum of Sam centric characters on the show and while Dean gets paired off with every person and their dog .Sam tends to be playing shadows on the wall so unless they change that Sam working on who he is is not going to happen. And seeing though he is supposed to be Mystery Spot Sam part 2 because he was wrong for not looking for Dean and that he was wrong for not being ok over being violated then again it will not happen.

    ReplyDelete
  78. From what I have read, even Jared realizes that Sam NOT LOOKING for Dean between Seasons 7 and 8 was not in Sam's wheelhouse. Now I can buy that Sam (who had been CRAZY for half of Season 7, I mean CRAZY) had a mini- breakdown and couldn't organize himself to look. I really really can. But it was not a "mature" decision based on some half-baked promise we never saw them make to each other; because, hello KEVIN was left in demon hands TOO so it could NEVER have been a GOOD thing. BUT I think it was a another problem/anguish which Dean just papered over to go on with "the good fight" and never really addressed. It could have been acceptable/reasonable for Sam NOT to look for Dean after he hit the dog. But it is also acceptable/ reasonable that Dean has that gnawing at him two years later (at least to me).

    ReplyDelete
  79. What do you mean, Demon Dean? Dean is a DEMON now? Are you sure? Because all I saw was Sad Frat Boy Dean.

It was so pathetic. Oh, he is going to beat up a human? Better make sure that guy is an abusive jerk. Oh, he is going to kill two people? Can't have that. Better make them Demons.

This show, post-Season 5, has no ability to fully commit to anything.

    ReplyDelete
  80. You know, you're right: we have a problem with Dean (became demonized, ran away) and we have a problem with Castiel (hello, he's DYING) but Sam does not have an arc of his own this year. Wonder if he'll get HIS arc when Dean gets de-demonized and Castiel gets fresh grace (HIS grace back)?

It's just every year it seems we start off with "something is wrong with Sam" so maybe they wanted to try something different.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I didn't have a problem with the Sam stuff. I had a problem with the lame ass angel stuff. What I said was that I'm glad Jensen is FINALLY getting a chance to expand on Dean. I got tired of it always being Jared.

    ReplyDelete
  82. It just blows my MIND that Osric Chau dislocated Jared Padalecki's shoulder. Blows my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ugh. I love Dean and Cas together, but I liked very much Cas and Sam working in the bunker last season...way to waste two great characters...

    ReplyDelete
  84. Or just make him a human hunter, since he wants to.

    ReplyDelete
  85. This episode has had some pretty strong reactions. Personnally I loved it and thought it was way better than a lot of season 9.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I agree. I also think he was so depressed last night NOT because he was dying but because Sam would not let him be part of the Hunt to Save Dean.
THAT has been his whole reason for being for FIVE freaking years. He wants to fulfill his destiny.
(My back-idea is that Destiel got so much press that the writers/show runners now spend their time keeping Dean and Castiel apart because they realize they put them "together" too much in the Gamble years -- you know, he was your boyfriend first, you know, the angel who is in LOVE with you, that stuff. Since they don't want to write Destiel for REALZ they have to separate Dean and Castiel all the time now. Bah Humbug. Figure it out, guys, I want the THREE of them together as Team Free Will.)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am not sure about that. They say that this season is about facing your own demons and accepting who you are so I think Sam has a story we just haven't gotten into yet. The same with Dean after he is cured of being a demon.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think Sam's story is just getting started. I am very excited to see where it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree about DD. I wasn't overly impressed with him. Glad Sam didn't let that remark by Crowley throw him off but yes was not needed at all. Petty is a good description of that comment.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Exactly! Jared knew that it was OOC for Sam. I really believe Sam did have some sort of breakdown between 7 and 8 and they failed to show us this. We needed to see it or hear Sam tell Dean about it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I hate Jeremy Carver with the heat and passion of a thousand burning suns. I will not read any interview that man has to give.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Maybe but then here lies the problem .We have Dean having things gnaw at him that is then brought up as in Southern Comfort or acted out in other ways . But when it comes to Sam the opposite happens , that he has to move pass what is done and not hold onto any genuine feelings . Sam can have passive aggressive comments being used to re-enforce his mistake or action , whether it is from Dean or from other characters brought up later to remind the audience the 'hurt' to his brother. But the road does not go the other way and when something is done it is so ludicrously played down by the writers and some of the fandom to the point of dismissing it and what did Sam get upset over in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I enjoyed the premier very much especially Sam's part of the episode. I am finally seeing the Sam I have wanted to see for a long time now. We had Sam's POV/angst while searching for Dean. When Sam saw that Dean was a demon it was heartbreaking. The phone conversation between Sam and Crowley was amazing. The "hitting the dog" remark was not necessary but doesn't surprise me. Sam didn't waiver though. Hearing Sam tell Crowley he will "save his brother even if he dies" was what I wanted to hear. I can't wait to see where Sam's story goes and hope TPTB continue showing us Sam's POV/angst for awhile. Jared and Mark S have great acting chemistry and I hope to see more in S10. I am also excited to see what Cole does to Sam and how Sam gets away. Jared was phenomenal in last night's episode.

Jensen did a good job but I was not overly impressed with what they gave us of DD last night. I was hoping to see more of a Dark Dean but Jensen did say he played it different. The only part of DD I liked the most was how he reacted to Sam being caught by Cole. Looking ahead DD may interest me more in episode 2 and definitely episode 3 since we have DD and Sam in the bunker confronting each other and DD chasing Sam which looks intense. Looking forward to that!

All I have to stay about the angel storyline is that it took away from Sam and Dean screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I feel bad to say this but.. I was rather disappointed. I just expected a lot more.. during the episode, I almost got bored and a little annoyed. I won't drop out for now, though, because I think Demon!Dean does have potential.. along with Sam and Castiel. They just have to use it.
So.. yeah, here's hope for a better second episode!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Exactly. It's Dean, but at his very worst, and we got to see that during "Black". No way was Dean ever going to be exactly like a demon and kill just to kill, or even take orders, as we saw with his conversation with Crowley and then leaving by himself in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  96. In my mind, Sam did call but Dean ignored him-- until he learned from Crowley that Sam was right on his tail. Maybe to warn him off or taunt him with the open tab at the bar remark--ha ha you missed me.

  101. You're absolutely right!!! What a convenient way to preserve Dean's image. Let's make him so, so bad but only with jerk humans and demons of course. But we can't have Demon Dean killing humans, otherwise his heroic golden boy image will be tarnished. We just can't have that!! It's a joke. Pathetic indeed.

And then I remember where Kripke went to take Sam to a dark path. He sucked demon blood for God's sake. And you see what a difference a serious showrunner does to a show. If you take a character to a dark path, you go big or go home. The demon Dean I saw in this episode, who I refuse to call Deanmon (so childish), is really lame.

I know now why Jensen said that Dean doesn't have guilty after he becomes human again. Why he should have? For killing demons? Mehh.

  102. I hear you. I am actually at a conference this week so I taped the show and decided to check out the boards to see the response. I could have watched it but I decided to watch Marvel: AOS instead.

I did flip to it every once in a while, and the bit of DD I saw didn't seem very "demony" but I admit to not watching the entire. I might look at it this weekend.

  103. Yeah . . . I'm in no rush to watch it now.

  105. Good Dean, bad Dean, good Sam, bad Sam, good Castiel, bad castiel--that pretty much sums up any Supernatural story arc nowadays.

  108. The point of making Dean a demon is that he does not give a crap about all those that have made him a doormat for years. Now they find out what it means when The Dean is not there for them and decide who and what they are without him holding them up.
The entire episode was the other characters reacting to Dean as he is now, while Dean is just off doing his own thing. Yes, he remembers his humanity, but he just doesn't care. Personally, I am glad he is not out burning down orphanages. We've had enough of those kinds of demons, and I don't want to have a poached soulless Sam story. I find the whole idea refreshing.

  109. The only character I've arguably seen use Dean as a doormat is John, and he's been gone since season 2, so I don't know what that comment was about.

But getting back to my point- there are probably a million different supernatural ways Dean could have lost his inhibitions if that was the goal. Why pick a heavily established supernatural creature that doesn't fit?

  110. I was coping with the episode, although it was pretty dull, until Sam's car broke down and, completely without any sense of wariness despite having a bad arm and being unable to defend himself, he gets out of the car, in the dark, and then when another car pulls up and a guy gets out and walks towards him, he doesn't check he has his gun, he doesn't keep his distance, he just has a friendly chat. This scene, for me, epitomised everything that's wrong with Carver's tenure. Nothing the characters do is in any way informed by what's come before. Not even that - even in season one there's no way Sam wouldn't have been on his guard in a situation like that - how could he be after a lifetime of being trained that he's always in danger? Likewise the opening scene actually, when we're meant to think Sam's gone so off the rails by torturing this demon when he's done SO MUCH worse in the past and given the demon knew who he was, they'd know that too. I really just stopped caring what happened, because these characters just don't feel real anymore. Nothing that happens is earned because Carver just makes the Sam and Dean do stupid, incoherent crap just to advance to plot.

  111. While I am not all that happy that the writers turned Dean into the very thing he has hunted his whole life -- in fact, I don't like it at all, because the very idea promotes what the show has been showing for years now; that hunting is not a noble thing to do. Still, I find the idea that in this way Dean has shucked all of the responsibility and burden he assumes for other people.
Miles vary on whether Dean has been a doormat to every other character on the show. IMO, he has, and Sam has been the worst of the lot. For that reason, I am liking the fact that all of the other characters shown in the premiere has their attention turned to Dean and Dean is ignoring the whole lot of them. That means they will have to figure out who and what they are without Dean as their support system. This is a good way to grow all of the characters -- something that has not been done in years and years now. Let's hope the writers do just that.

  112. Jeremy Carver is right up there with Tim Kring in the list of TV writers I'd like to slap.

Yet I continue to watch, not because I'm enjoying anything that has happened since Carver took over, but because I was once so deeply in love with this show, I will sit by its bedside watching it get worse until it finally dies. And when it does, I will feel relief, because I no longer have to watch it suffer...

Season 6, 7 and 8 overall storylines had such great potential, and such horrific execution.

  113. The best part of this episode was the goofy gas station clerk.

  114. I completely agree. I watch and mourn what this show has become. I simply can't believe what these hack writers have done to this show. I expected Carver to know Kripke's idea of the two characters and the show, but it has sunk to a teenage angst and handwringing melodrama. A soap really. And as an aside, could the music be any more sucky.

  115. Yeah, I didn't feel like the 'The Road So Far' new tune really fit. Should've stuck with Carry on My Wayward Son.

Oh well, perhaps we can find Balthazar and have him go back in time and unsink this show :P
