Agreed. My first thought was lackluster. It really didn't leave me wanting to see more. It just sort of spit on us and left, I think. No real cliffhanger feel to it.
Okay. I fully admit I'm one of *those* people who has read the books and whines about every little change that happens. I'll willingly own up to that.
But come on. That final encounter with the Master in the books was just so much more satisfying than what aired tonight. It was action-packed, suspenseful, and left me scrabbling to read the night eternal. Definitely disappointed. At least Quinlan was amazing, and regardless of my complaining, I'll continue watching once season 2 airs.
no, I like the show - I sat through 13 episodes and I'll sit through 13 more, but it could all be so much better. The sense of pacing is not good at all. They adapted a book that could be done in 6 episodes with 13 and they dragged it out to fit that double digit episode count.
I love this show!! However, I expected a bit more. The showdown with the Master was sloppy. The old man lives for killing the Master, yet he just stood there most of the time. While the Master was in the sunlight and stunned, why didn't he start stabbing and try to take his head off! That was my really only beef. I can't wait till next season and hopefully they listen to fan critiques and pick up the pace a tad.
I've really loved every episode and I love those vampires with the ancients, I really want to see more of them. It was a good episode but disappointing for a finale, I expected it to end on a big cliffhanger too. I'm still excited for season 2 though and I still love this show, one disappointing episode doesn't mean anything, it's just unfortunate that the disappointing episode was the finale :/
Great concept, awesome first episode, okay finale, "meh" Season 1. Seems like they struggled to pace things across 13 installments. I really want to like this show, but so far it's a handful of creepy-cool visuals, tied together with a lot of redundant running around, marinated in WAY too many flashbacks. Enjoyed the books. Now that we've got all the players in position, I'm hoping Season 2 will have a bit more (HEH) sting.
I loved it, set up season 2 well and managed to give us a good final battle (I was at the edge of my seat wondering who would die). I can't wait for next year. Although I didn't like The Strain at first, thought the pilot was ok, maybe even a little bad, the show definitely has improved, offering great storylines and characters. I do recognize it has its flaws, but I think seeing the feedback they get, the writers will actually try a bit more next season.
I think they mentioned this was a problem they had. They needed to add some stuff to reach the 13-episode count. I think they should be allowed to choose how many episodes they need, but overall, it was a good season.
the part with the master was disappointed, they had chances to kill him but they just stood there, i think that was badly written, but thats ok cuz they made it awesome with Quinlan and the ancient vampires, cant wait for season 2 to see whats their story..
Went with great, because the general quality of the ep was very good, Quinlan-Gus story was awesome, but both final confrontations (Setrakian's with the Master and Eph's with his strigwife) were kinda anticlimactic. However, they didn't kil Dutch off and have earned my respect for that alone. Really excited for next season!
finally caught up and watched the ep, and I gave it a good as I've also read the books and tried to separate the 2, but it's been difficult and especially in this ep as I agree with those that felt it was underwhelming, and really had an odd pacing about it as though things like the big battle were in slow motion - the characters in the book felt far better developed by this point and easier to root for, although I do like the Fet, Quinlan and Abraham characters a lot. I do like the changes from the book that I can recall as I think the hacker girl wasn't in the book and I wouldn't mind seeing Fitzwilliam show up as an ally next season... overall I'd give the season a "good", and will look forward to the return...
just getting around to watching the season finale. Felt like just an episode. Then confrontation with the Master was annoying. Stupid old dude missed at least three opportunities to destroy the master because he was staring or speechifying. That kind of directing kills the energy in what is supposed to be an exciting fight scene. it basically indicated that the villain we've waited to see isn't as badass as we were told. For this I would rather they'd just not done this fight.
this ep was good but just didn't feel like a season finale. I wasn't on the edge of my seat anxious for season 2.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
A very underwhelming, dragged put finale of a very underwhelming, dragged out first season.
ReplyDeleteOk, obviously this show is not for you.
ReplyDeletehow could people dont like this show!! its great..

ReplyDeleteI said disappointing, I did not say it was trash. It was alright, but definitely not great or amazing.
ReplyDeleteAwesome finale (No Spoilers)! Season 2 won't get here fast enough. 4 A CRAZY OLD MAN WITH A SWORD, I will be Nobody!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. My first thought was lackluster. It really didn't leave me wanting to see more. It just sort of spit on us and left, I think. No real cliffhanger feel to it.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to end the season and create anticipation for the next.
