  2. well the first half of AOS the viewer didn't like it and so they choose not to come back.....

  3. Fuck, I'm still shaking. That was an amazing, intense episode.

  4. I absolutely loved it, the scene with Fitz and Ward was terrifying! Can't wait to see what happens in the next couple of eps, especially concerning skye's father, I do wish skye and coulson would talk more, I miss that

  5. Guys, I'm waiting for comments about Simmons!!

  6. Loving the pace of this season. So much better then the first episodes of the first season which were kind of hard to get into. Sad this show doesn't have more viewers though it should its really redeemed itself.

Fitz seems to be growing more each episode and coming around a bit more. I think having Mack around has helped with that. Just having someone to push him out of his comfort zone. He talked a lot less to not real Simmons this episode so yay a little bit of recovery. Can't blame him for doing that to Ward. Guy has it coming although I'm glad Fitz knew not to take it to far and kill Ward. Just scare him a little.

I don't trust Ward I think he's pulling people's string and misleading them with this sympathy act. I don't necessarily think he's with Hydra but he's definitely using his skills to work Skye and even Fitz a bit in that meeting into believing he's sorry and he's changed. Ward would really and I mean really have to take one for the team for me to believe he's not manipulating them and will betray them again.

I am worried for Simmons. Please don't torture her I miss her with the group. Although I appreciate seeing her separate from Fitz. Love the focus this season on those two as separate people on different paths at the moment instead of being FitzSimmons like season one. I like seeing Simmons in the field and lying, successfully, while being outside of her lab comfort zone.

  7. Relieved that Simmons is not a turncoat or a deserter. :)
Hope she returns to the team soon.

  8. It was awesome! I could have sworn that Simmons' cover was going to be blown, so glad I was wrong. I have a feeling her loyalty will be tested and HYDRA will hook her up to that thingy and try to make her 'comply' and then SHIELD will swoop in and save the day. That Ftiz/Ward scene was really good, I felt so bad for Fitz in this episode. Poor guy, everyone thinks he's incapable except Mack (loving the FItz/Mack friendship, btw)
Promo for next week look good! Undercover!Coulson/May next week! woot! May was kicking some serious ass in heels and a sparkly dress, wouldn't expect anything less though. :)

  9. This show is just... ahhhhh I love it! All the scenes with Ward in that episode were just great (especially when Fitz finds him). And Simmons inflilrating Hydra, that's just brilliant. I love that every character has taken a path that we couldn't have predicted from the first half of season 1 (thanks to the Hydra reveal). It's great TV!

  10. I loved this ep.
-I loved Simmons undercover but I am eagerly awaiting her inevitable confrontation with Fitz when she returns.
-I'm loving Coulson as director, seeing him make the hard choices etc.
-by the looks of it I'm probably the only one not loving Ward this season, I would love it if he is playing Skye to get her back to her father.
-hunter actually grew on me a little this episode. I was loving May's grudge against him.
-I love Fitz and Mack's friendship.
-more may please. She's never in the episode enough for me lol.

    Anyway that's just my thoughts.

  11. Each episode has been a constant joy this season, I was never this gripped by the show, not even last's season later half.

First things first: Hunter keeps mentioning Hartley, dead people don't usually get that much characterization, I'm just saying.

Ward and Fitz' moment was incredible. They literally put two actors and a room and let them play of each other, and it gave me chills. They both inhabit their characters magnificently, and Bret Dalton is just so much more than what he appeared to be at the beginning of this show. Ward has become possibly the most compelling character in this show. Also, De Caestecker might be the best actor in this show, so much vulnerability in his portrayal.

but as usual, May and Skye remain my faves, and of course, Jemma. Hot damn Jemma, how are you pulling that off! So much tension in this episode, and I really like how "the nerds" are on the field as big players, this storyline with Hydra is amazing for Jemma.

Can't wait for the next episode, this has become my top must watch series of the season (next to Korra)

  12. i also miss Skye and Coulson scenes, idk if i like having him as Director, but seriously standing O for Iain as Fitz that was powerful and I am glad he got to turn the screws to Ward a little cutting off his oxygen.

    ReplyDelete
  13. First off, damn! Iain is killing it this season with Fitz! His scene with Ward was easily the most moving and revealing scene this episode. Also, am I the only one noticing this Skye/Hunter connection? I'm not saying its romantic, but they both seem like they could both use someone watching out for them right now. Could be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The best episode for me.. but i 'm not happy because in last scene is clearly that Ward still manipulate Skye. ( if you rewatch 1x22 you 'll understand that )

    ReplyDelete
  15. Iain De Caestecker should be arrested. Dude's been stealing the show for 3 straight weeks. lol

Seriously, though, I love how this Fitz storyline is going. They're playing it realistically, but showing him making progress with coming out of his shell a bit more every week. Plus, now he's acknowledging that "Simmons" isn't real, meaning that she isn't an adequate distraction anymore and he's beginning to wonder where the real Jemma is, and it's weighing on him heavily.

I got some chills during that scene with Ward too. Fitz seemed downright unhinged when he sucked out Ward's air. Awesome stuff. Iain is selling this so well. His acting's been fantastic. I'm so glad him and Elizabeth have been given meatier roles this season.

  16. INCREDIBLE EPISODE damn this show keeps hitting it out of the park, first of all thank god jemma's undercover but i'm horrified of her maybe getting the faustus treatment, someone give iain de caes

    ReplyDelete
  17. crap mis-pressed, i was saying someone give iain de caestecker an emmy, oscar every award, to think him and elizabeth henstridge were supposed to be comic reliefs whoa, that fitz and ward scene HOLY CRAP intense doesn't even begin to cover it, i don't want skye to become comfortable with killing i really don't want her to, i'm not liking this no coluson and skye interaction that was one of my favorite parts of season 1, and that last scene with skye and ward man you could just tell that skye was hoping that ward was brainwashed to make sense of it all, i hate that now she doesn't believe him of his abusive past, gill is by no means dead

    ReplyDelete
  18. Another strong episode, I like a lot that scene between Ward and Fitz (wow) was good, I like the Blizzard return and how SHIELD and Hydra fight each other. I happy see Jemma again, I hope they not control her in the future.

Skye now knows her father is alive, let the answers begins.

  19. That Simmons Music!

    Yay more Ward and Fitz.

    Comply thing works, damn.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Iain just blew me away with his scene with ward(this guy was seriously used as a comic relief for an entire season such bull!). Now I'm kind of glad jemma and fitz r having sepeseparate storylines they both are seriously pulling of the best storylines of the show. Fitz is finally getting rid of his jemma addiction good to see. Simmons is in some deep trouble the brainwashing thing is scary.
Didn't care for ward I bet his lying to wisk Skye away they emphasise way to much that he's telling the 'truth'

    ReplyDelete
  21. Iain seriously deserves an emmy or an award of some kind. He's amazing the depressed look in his eyes almost killing ward geez! .
Agents of shield is some awesome cannot miss TV these days

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes you see it too I doubt rains would ever share the doctors whereabouts with ward he's trying to win. Her trust again not for a good reason

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't that Donnie Gill is dead. I think the ice encircled him, froze the bullet and protected him from drowning. I think he will come back. I can't wait to see the Skye, Ward and Dad storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The problem with Ward is that he thoroughly destroyed all the trust Skye had in him. She used to trust (and believe) him. He betrayed her trust and Fitz is still paying the price for said betrayal (never mind the people he killed).
What makes the situation so complicated is that I think Ward is wrong. He was brainwashed. From a very young age he has been manipulated by the people surrounding him into being the person he is today. I can't help but feel sorry for him on a certain level, even though I also hate him for what he did. That is quite a tangled web.
Gill's story kind of mirrors Ward's, with the difference that Gill's own bad decision put him in his position in the first place (it nevertheless hurt to see him slipping further and further away). Ward never really had a chance, and if he ever got one, he was already too far gone to take it.
In any case, this is exactly the kind of writing I love in TV shows...the one which doesn't serve the answers on a silver platter.

  25. Some people are just blatantly biased in Ward's favor and view everything on the show from his perspective, therefore doing this indignant "HOW could Skye not believe Ward about his abuse?!" dance.

We, the viewers, know for a fact that Ward was abused by his family because we saw inside his head in 1x08. Skye did not, nor has she witnessed any other evidence for this abuse. All she has are Ward's own words, and after being so heinously betrayed by this man, her former S.O., someone she'd been developing romantic feelings for (and who kissed and wanted to go out with her), how could she NOT doubt them? How could she not suspect that every single thing he's ever told her was part of a manipulation?

If anyone thinks they would behave any differently if they were in Skye's shoes, they're either kidding themselves, or in need of some professional help because when a person betrays you in the most horrible way possible, including trying to kill two of your friends and teammates (sorry, Ward apologists/SkyeWard shippers with your ridiculous excuses and explanations for why Ward was actually trying to save FitzSimmons), giving them the benefit of the doubt is not a healthy or wise course of action.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let's put it this way: Are you bothered too much about Black Widows past, even though she has "red in her ledger"? Or are you easy to dismiss it because you don't know those people? What about all the victims which were killed by Stark weapons? Or the victims of the Winter Soldier? Soldiers who got hurt by the Hulk? Warriors Thor killed when he was still believing in war?
I think it is a good thing that the show gives us a very close look on both sides of this kind of conflict.
Personally, I believe more in redemption than in punishment. It is naturally not practical for a law system, and there is always the problem that redemption might be given to the undeserving. But does it really make anything better if Ward suffers for his crimes? What he does now, giving away information and trying to be helpful, on the other hand will prevent more suffering.
Problem is that I don't trust him either. He belongs in therapy, and allowing him contact to Skye might make things worse on the long run.
The question is if Ward is deserving or not, if he does what he does for the right reasons, or if he is playing a long con. He certainly needs to understand that "I didn't want to outright kill you, so I went for nearly drowning you" is a shitty excuse all around.

i'm thinking ward is trying to or has convinced himself that he was trying to safe them

  29. I'm not disputing any of what you said. My comment was in the context of the discussion about Skye not believing Ward about his abuse. Some people are far too ready to defend Ward and excuse his actions if they think that Skye should instantly believe anything that comes out of his mouth, or forgive him, at this point.

Black Widow is a character whose dark past hasn't been shown in the MCU. When we first meet her in Iron Man 2, she's presumably been working for SHIELD for years already. If you showed me a scene that takes place mere months after she was still working for the enemy, in the very beginning of her redemption story, and people in SHIELD were willing to trust her, I would have called bullshit. Similarly, if Skye or the others trust Ward - to a certain degree - years down the line, after he's thoroughly proven himself to have reformed, I won't have a problem with it. But right now, it's FAR too early to be expecting any of the people Ward betrayed to believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

It's not even a matter of how bad Ward is or isn't in the eyes of the viewers - it's the characters' perspective that matters. I would find Skye to be an unrealistic and frankly stupid character if she was readily believing everything Ward was saying to her.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, I agree. Let's face it, the only reason we are inclined to believe him is because we have seen his memories. The AoS haven't.
I do wonder though...if Skye is really such a great hacker, shouldn't she been able to hack deep enough to find out about the fire? And some hints that Garret was the one who brought Ward to Shield in the first place? And wouldn't she look into Ward as thoroughly as possible in order to have an easier time reading him? I get that this was not on the top of the priority list beforehand, but now that they are regularly using intel from him they should try to analyse his motivations as well as possible, not for his sake, but for their own.

  31. So how exactly did Jemma get over her inability to lie. Someone said something like "She is a terrible liar!" and May said "Not anymore..." did May train her? Ward maybe? The writers were very clever and hard handed when drawing comparisons to wards betrayal and Jemma's undercover operation. She's essentially going through the same thing. I honestly think she has no commitment to SHIELD, but a commitment to Coulson/Fitz.

She's basically doing exactly what Ward did up until the point Hydra revealed themselves. I'd be surprised if that parallel isn't drawn out to emphasize how a good hearted individual may be undercover and lieing but without the intentions to harm like Ward was. At some point in time she's going to have to openly betray Hydra, the question is will she do this like Ward, damaging as many people on the way out, or like a hero trying to bring over those who are trapped in Hydra's system. I could see her possibly recruiting her boss-like guy who seemed genuinely concerned when she was beckoned upstairs.

  32. Yeah, rationalization is a psychological defense mechanism. To deal with his guilt over trying to kill FitzSimmons, Ward is trying to rationalize that action by telling himself that he had been trying to give them their best possible shot at survival. Which is BS because A, they wouldn't have been in danger in the first place if Ward hadn't captured them, and B, it's a miracle that they survived.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Ward didnt release the pod what would happend to Fitz and Simmons? Deathlock could open it and killem both instant!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm not a Ward apologist, so this is in no way me trying to justify anything, but Ward is not the only who's killed people. We know May has, we've never been directly told Coulson has, but it's safe to say he has, and now Skye has too. And yet, we're not constantly holding in it over their heads. Yes, they're the good guy, but is not like Ward wasn't convinced he was doing everything he did for the right reasons too. He thought he was doing it to save Garret, who in turn saved him from his family.
My point is we can't get overtly moral in a show about spies. We can hold against him what he did to Fitzsimmons because they're "family", but the rest IMO wouldn't be right, because then we'd have start keeping score on everyone. I think this is in part what Simmons storyline is designed to show us.

  35. The Tech women on Castle has joined Hydra lol

  36. The show is now firing on all cylinders...and then some. An epic action packed episode with characters I actually care about.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I need more Ward.. I'm sorry but I do. I know they're building to it but it has to happen. Plus some mutch needed Fitz/Simmons

    ReplyDelete
  38. Great ep! Beside the awesome developments with Fitz, Simmons and Skye, I truly loved the brainwashing scenes/theme this episode had. Mind you, the trigger isn't as iconic as "Early one morning...", "Miranda" or (my favourite) "There are 3 flowers in a vase...", but I hope it'll grow on me. And even though it seems imminent, I don't want them to brainwash Simmons. Don't give us another November, please.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You know what I really wonder about, and have since that episode? Who killed Buddy? They never showed who was actually holding the riffle.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bad start, now it has to overcome its reputation. Plus, a case of battling shows (with The Flash and Arrow).

    ReplyDelete
  41. First, I just want to note, as I said to swanpride, that context is important here. I was talking in the context of Skye not believing what Ward told her about his abuse. It doesn't matter how bad we think Ward is or isn't - it matters what Skye and the others do. Skye, unlike the viewers, was personally betrayed by Ward. Two of the people he nearly killed (FitzSimmons) are her teammates and friends, and his other victims were also SHIELD agents like her. So it's completely understandable that she isn't inclined to believe what Ward says - she hasn't seen his memories like we, the viewers, have.

But anyway: "killing" isn't the same as "murder". Plenty of soldiers and law enforcement agents kill. As far as we know, May or Coulson have only killed in that vein. Skye killing Donnie is a tougher sell, but he DID just freeze the ship to ensure her friends inside would die. Sure, even when you kill someone in battle, it's on a morally murky ground... but it's still different from the premeditated murder of a defenseless person.

If we look at Ward's kills -
    - Killing Steve Nash to fool SHIELD into thinking Nash is the Clairvoyant;
    - Killing Hand and 2 guards to free Garrett;
    - Killing 2 guards to break into the Fridge, steal SHIELD technology and free dangerous prisoners;
    - Killing Eric Koenig to prevent his cover from being blown;
    - Trying to kill FitzSimmons because he'd been ordered to by Garrett;

I believe all qualify as murder, and only #2 can truly be considered as having been to protect/save Garrett - and even there, he could've iced Hand and the guards instead of killing them. Of course, that would've blown his cover - but if you value your cover more than other people's lives, that's pretty reprehensible, I'd say.

I realize his ultimate goal was to get GH-325 or whatever and save Garrett's life, rather than anything Hydra-related. But he still murdered innocent people (although I concede that Hand wasn't all that innocent, having sent Fitz and Ward on a suicide mission without telling them and ordered Coulson's execution on mere suspicion that he was Hydra) to do that. By comparison, would May kill someone who had done her no wrong if it was needed to save Coulson? I doubt it.

Maybe he can be redeemed one day, but it's going to take a lot of time and good writing. The problem is that the people I referred to as "Ward apologists" want him redeemed, back on the team and in a relationship with Skye in like 5 episodes. They're willing to overlook everything because of his abuse (which I'm not denying) and their insistence that he was trying to save FitzSimmons, which doesn't hold water logically. Personally, I think that even if they redeem him, he should go off on his own to make amends like Deathlok in the end of last season. The idea that Coulson's team can ever trust him again is just too far-fetched.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Even Brett Dalton doesnt know that for sure, i guess we ll find out this season.
