  2. This was the best, most active and informative pilot I've seen in years. Keep this pace going and I'm all in. Loved everything about it. The supporting cast, the score, the acting, the relationships. Everything.

  3. Holy crap I'm excited!

  4. So AWESOME!!!

The special effects were movie quality, so good!
Really liked The Flash Team, they were great.
Arrow and The Flash met up :)

The ending scene with his father was nice.

    Cannot wait for next week!

  7. I loved it, Idk why so many fans kept harping on it. It was quick paced for a pilot, but then again it is The Flash. Ha ha. (Hahaha womp womp) I loved Caitlan and Cisco, Cisco just made the episode for me. I smiled like crazy when Oliver popped up, (he's so cute when he smiles in his outfit or in general) but ugh it was way too short, and a little cheesy, and honestly it felt more of Green Arrow, than Arrow. Especially with The "Cool", I was like really? On top of the Oliver tecnically shouldn't even have seen him, but w/e. It's just the pilot, but it was awesome!! I'm on board. (Duh) And GAH!! I loved the extended scenes, even though i didn't watch the leaked pilot (which i'm glad i didn't) i can still tell what's extended, and that promo, OMG!!! Felicity looked so freaking cute! You'd have to be blind not to see that in the promo. But i think this show will definitely stick around, and i can't wait til we see more. Also it totally got me hyped for tomorrow. ARROW BITCHEZ!! Lmao. Now I have to watch SPN.

  8. great pilot episode. I love Oliver's Cameo. and loved at the easter eggs through out the episode.

  9. Excellent pilot. I wasn't sure GG could carry a show but he proved me wrong. Really liked the characters and thought they did a good job on casting. Jesse L Martin was great but he was basically Detective Green (loved him on L & O)

I just had a feeling Wells was shady, shame though.

Only complaint was the Arrow cameo, I get what they were going for (epic superhero meeting) but OMG it was cheesy...so bad.

  10. loved it....the episode passed so fast...can't wait to see more of it!

  11. Great start very anxious to see more

  12. excited to see what everyone thought of it.
    My thoughts on the pilot:

    positive:

    - the visuals are SO GOOD, I have to admit I never thought I'd see this much well done CGI on theCW. CGI artists categorize their work in two criteria: the filler and the art aka. the one that is cheaper to do as CGI than to do practical and the one that is a challenge to create. The Flash was full of such well done effects

    - Tom Cavanagh is great in his mentor/villain role, never would've suspected himto be a baddie

    - The Zoom identity thingy will be fun

    - they actually seem to bend their own universes, Olivers one stunt in the episode was way more agile than on Arrow. If anything theFlash is giving Arrow a chance to go more comic-y! I'm hoping for some CRAZY Green Arrow stunts in the cross-over

    negative:

    - Grant Gustins acting is pretty lukewarm, he's not an emotionless chop of wood. The contrary is the case, his enthusiastic scenes are way over the top. Overacting isn't always a bad thing (for example Joseph Morgan manages at times to use it in his favour)

    - the storytelling might be fast paced BUT it is falling victim to the villain of the week scheme. We'll have to see how that pans out over the season

^ these were me trying to be objective
    now be being subjective:

hate the colourful style paired with Barry on ADHD, it's just so Amazing Spiderman esque. It's nothing against the show really just more my biased view of a similar product I absolutely despise.

overall: not going to grade it but for a pilot it was solid. Not good, not fantastic but solid. It could have been worse.

The thing is, I have to compare it to Arrows pilot. Wich was a lot more engaging and in some form had character due to quickly picking up a thick atmosphere. The Flash doesen't have that going for itself.
So, compared to Arrows pilot and other pilots out there certainly nothing to brag about BUT a show that can certainly pick up quality as it goes on, especially since shows with superhero-sci-fi themes are usually able to adapt quicker than others

    on a side-note:

    - John Wesley Shipp being cast as Barrys dad is just so awesome...I have seen the original show a long time ago (wich was bad) but still he was until now the only definite portrayal of Barry in my book. So despite disliking Gustins acting I still felt that the torch was definitely passed!

    - the Arrow cameo wasn't really needed and felt a bit...yeah cheap

I'll keep watching, especially since the recurring cast seems to be excellent this year!

    Sort of.
The version on TV has some extended scenes (an extra 3 minutes I believe).

  15. LOVED IT! It was great. Effects were awesome. It felt almost like a movie. Can't wait for the rest.

  16. yeah the Oliver cameo was the only questionable thing.

  17. Awesome pilot that I watched for the third time now after watching it weeks back.

Even on second or third viewing it still holds up to me, but some things do worry me a little...
    - First, will they be able to keep up the top-notch quality VFX? A drop off could come and it would worry me since I don't like mediocre VFX.
    - Second, like all CW shows, the acting is inconsistent at times. Grant and the actors that play Cisco Iris, and Eddie Thawn are not great actors by any stretch. And worse yet is the fact that lack of ability is highlighted when in scenes with very good actors like Jessie L Martin and maybe less so even with Tom Cavanagh.

Outside of those worries I thought it was a great episode especially for a pilot. Yes, it was a bit sappy at times (much like Smallville was), but maybe some of that was due to the actors inability to pull off scenes with a bit emotional reality....

Based o nthe pilot I think The Flash is well worth checking out week to week!

  18. Have to say I disagree with a lot your negative points. I thought this was better than Arrow's pilot. :)

Pretty great pilot I was a little worried at first though because everyone said The Flash was going to be really light and comedic and the opposite of Arrow but I didn't want that. The Flash is light yes, not as serious and dramatic and dark as Arrow but it still has its seriousness. Im glad Flash didn't make it too light that they had serious and dark moments because thats our world and to imagine our world like Central City it has to be realistic. Loved the characters for the most part its the pilot so I never judge on the characters for the first few episodes because it's not really fair unless I absolutely hate them. What I loved most out of all this is Dr. Wells. I knew it! I guessed and I'm excited because it sounds like and looks like Wells is Dr. Eobard THAWNE aka the Reverse-Flash! U saw the yellow lightning around him as well so people probably picked it up. Eobard Thawne is from the future and thinks of the flash as his hero and travels back in time after using the same method of sort that gave Barry his powers on himself and is obsessed and then a monster and because a very bad villain. This Eddie Thawne is probably his ancestor so I don't know exactly what will happen with him. I don't want to talk too much but I'm very excited by how this might go but honestly I think I would've liked it a little better if they kept this whole Wells thing a secret because now I'm going to be thinking evil in my head every time I see him.

...And now begins the anxious wait to see how it did in the Nielsen ratings.
(Praying for a 1.2 or higher)

  21. I wasn't really impressed. It just was okay at best. I hope it gets better, the promo for the season looked better so I'll hold off a bit

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with you. Especially the cameo bit. I rolled my eyes even though I knew it was coming.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Since theCW is betting a lot on this show I don't expect it to have worse VFX in the first 13 episodes, later I might grow worried
as for the acting, that part irks me the most as well. Actors make the show to me and these sadly don't do it too well so far. I'm willing to hope for the best though

Part of me thinks the expense might be the whole purpose of JTV though.

They can put more money into The Flash by taking it out of Jane (which from the pilot seems VERY cheap).

Hart of Dixie if they decide to keep it around as Friday filler could also help with that (HoD owns nothing, the sets are reused from other shows, the costumes are reused from other shows, ect).

    ReplyDelete
  25. It was awesome and made me super excited about Arrow tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Probably, I haven't seen the pilot yet so I really have no grasp on its potential budget. I'm usually pretty good at meassuring production costs due to being a fanatic filmmaker myself but I'd have to see it first.

But it's obvious that Jane is cheap to begin with and made to cut corners. The cast can always be reduced, sets cut. But the issue is that there is probably not a lot to cut.

But I'm not entirely certain since JTV is distributed by CBS while they have no stake in Flash (it's co-produced by Berlanti films and DC making Arrow/Flash the only shows CBS only takes a tiny cut from).

As much as it hurts to say I think IF they take budget for FX/cast/sets they`ll take it from Arrow/TO/TVD/SPN. The shows they own more % of. I would also include HoD but as you said: you can't really cut many corners on this show. It is SO cheap that I haven't written a 5th season of (the ratings might suck but it's so damn cheap that a fifth season box set might be temptation enough for WB)

They can cut on Arrow, they have 8 regulars as of right now if I'm not mistaken (Amell, Holland, Cassidy, Haynes, Rickards, Ramsey, Barrowman, Blackthorne) and a pretty big practical visuals budget (their stunt team being the biggest outshining feature).

Same goes for TVD, they have 10 (!) regulars (Dobrev, Wesley, Somerhalder, McQueen, Accola, Davis, Graham, Trevino,Roerig, Malarkey), cut a regular on any show and you have another season (I know that saying is rather dull but it would apply to that show)

They could always cut the New Orleans travels for TO, they only have 6 regulars (Morgan, Gillies, Davis, Tonkin, Pipes, Campbell)...not really sure WHAT to cut but they'd find something

As for SPN, not sure WHAT to cut but...oh well.

In short: if the Flash performs under their expectatons I expect tinier cast lineups for the other shows and generally less special material due to them trying to save the Flash like they did it with Reign last year (TVD: Dobrev, Somerhalder, Wesley, Davis, McQueen, Accola, Graham/ TO: Gillies, Morgan, Tonkin, Davis/ Arrow: Amell, Rickards, Cassidy, Holland, Haynes/ SPN: Ackles, Padalecki)

With that line up they would save 10 regular salaries and could afford more FX for the Flash

  27. Very solid series premier for The Flash. Dare I say ... perfect. The story covered all the necessary bases needed for an introduction to this series. This show has really talented actors from Tom Cavanagh, to Jessie L. Martin, and John Wesley Shipp. I was so impressed with the prison scene between Barry and his father. It made me instantly care about Henry and I hope Barry can find a way to free his father very soon. Kudos to Grant Gustin for the way he was able to interact with John in a way that showed the audience how closely father and son are bonded.

On the plus side, we know that Oliver not only gets Queen Consolidated back, but it must become a valuable asset for Bruce Wayne to merge this company with Wayne Enterprises ten years from now. :)

  28. ok who thinks harrison wells is barry from the future, awesome episode even having seeing the episode before it premiered, want that sweatshirt so bad lol

  29. I think he's Professor Zoom.

  30. "the storytelling might be fast paced BUT it is falling victim to the villain of the week scheme." - How can you actually comment on this after one episode?

    ReplyDelete
  31. So did anything important happen in the "three extra minutes"?

    ReplyDelete
  32. It shows promise as a series, but it's not there yet. They really, really need to tone down the STAR labs geeks, as at the moment they are irritatingly cliched. Hopefully once the show finds it's feet they won't grate quite as much. Will definitely try another episode or two and see where it goes.

Wow, it blew me away. It was awesome, the cast are brilliant. The pilot was so engaging. So excited for next week.

  34. I'm unsure what was in the original but the last few minutes showed us a coming mystery. Which is going to include Time Travel and Harrison.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Definitely more light-hearted than Arrow. Great special effects and I love the score and sound effects. Specially Barry's theme and the 'slowing down heartbeat' effect they used after Barry stopped running at some point. Don't know if you could hear it through the TV, but I noticed with my headphones.

Good use of flashbacks. Loved the Arrow Cameo. Good way to get us pumped for tomorrow! Liked Barry, snow and Cisco. Not to hot on Iris and the 'wheelchair' Boss.

I'm guessing Flash himself goes back in time and saves himself. Haven't read the comics, so don't know the actually mythology, but that's my two cents! That's what struck me he second the 'lightening' whisks young Barry away. And maybe explains why Flash has disappeared in 2025 (2024?). Also where did he get the holographic future newspaper!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes it was.
I did not compare the episode times for the screener, the leaked web download or the aired pilot, but I did not notice anything new in the aired version personally.

Maybe it was just a few scenes with a little extra time?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Loved the newspaper! XD
I also loved his hidden lair! The walls almost looked like brail text to me... I doubt it, but that would be fun! XD

I wonder if anyone ever bothered to try decipher the dots on the wall and see if there was a pattern or code or if it was brail...

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think it was the extra few minutes that showed what's coming up for the season. Really just an extended promo.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ok i watched it and what was great about it were the special effects etc which were movie quality. however, other than that i just found it enjoyable and fun but nothing more. I felt it was more of the same old same old, dialogue a bit cheesy, secondary characters not particularly interesting or believable, even voiceovers and music score were so predictable, not original enough. i also thought it is more likely to appeal to a younger age demographic. so will i watch another episode? most likely not.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I really like it, it has potential, though not sure it's going to last more then a couple season. It is more comic bookish then Arrow because of the superpowers but it was still great. My favorite parts where the Arrow/Oliver cameo and the end with Tom C. getting up, walking and looking at the newspaper from 2024. Now I'm wondering what's up with him, I hope he's good as I like him and would hate for him to be bad.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You're right, it does look like braille! Lol, wow that would be some dedication. Last time I deciphered Braille was for my Pokemon Sapphire game!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow, the critics weren't lying, this was BY FAR the best pilot this season, maybe even in years! Everything about it was amazing. My eyes were glued to the screen from start to finish.

Just from the pilot alone, I'm already attached to these characters like glue which is pretty amazing. A perfect setup for the show. The tone is very different from Arrow but I still very much enjoyed it. I loved how it balanced the lighthearted moments with the very serious.

All of the acting, special effects, and dialogue were top notch stuff and I was impressed. Seriously, how freaking cool was Weather Wizard's tornado?! That was insane and beautiful to watch in this day and age.

For me, Barry getting advice from Oliver was pretty cool and not cheesy at all. I dont understand why everyone was ripping that scene to shreds but to each their own.

The scene where Barry went to go see his dad in prison was so sweet and pretty damn emotional. Damn, that scene almost made me tear up a little bit there. Fantastic acting between Grant Gustin and Josh Wesley Shipp.

Everyone in the supporting cast was great but Cisco and Caitlin were absolutely perfect. I'm glad they had a formal introduction and we now know a little bit more about Caitlin (her transition into becoming Killer Frost is going to be very interesting and I can't wait to see how they handle it).

That final scene was a complete jaw dropper. I wonder what happens to Barry that he vanishes 10 years from now. I'm intrigued.

All in all, it was a perfect pilot and I'm so glad that mostly everyone seems to be raving about it. Can't wait to see more next week!

  43. Another super pilot from David Nutter, loved the ep and all the back story.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Awesome pilot and that ending. In my opinion proves that this doctor is actually the Flash himself traveled back from the future.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So I heard there was supposed to be an extra three minutes added to the pilot but I had watched the leaked pilot months ago and I don't think I saw anything that wasn't in there. Unless they mean the preview at the end. True, my memory could be faulty but if it's not, would someone please tell me what was added? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. That was a great pilot. The story, writing, and characters are all set up well. Loved the stunt coordination and special effects. If future episodes keep up this quality, I'm definitely on board for the rest of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think that was advertisements time, making the whole show+ads run 3 minutes into the 9:00pm time-slot.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I disagree with every one of your negative comments except the Arrow cameo. Now that I have seen Arrow premiere it looks ridiculous. Oliver was smiling and championing Barry when this meeting happened after the dinner explosion and him pushing away Digg. Why would he encourage Barry to be a vigilante when he himself can't accept his both personas. Also that scene looked insincere.

I liked this pilot way better than Arrow's pilot. The acting and chemistry between stars are better than Arrow pilot imo. Also I love Grant Gustin so that might colour my opinion. Also I think they are going for the villain of the week theme atleast till the mid season break and then may be captain cold will start rounding up all these rogues in the first half of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I loved this pilot. Grant Gustin was wonderful as Barry. His relationship with all three father figures are what interests me. The team already looks great and has lovely chemistry. Arrow's cameo was cheesy and not true to that character at all. It irked me. I hope the cost of VFX won't kill the show.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Figures that's what it was. Why must they toy with my emotions so?!?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  51. What were the extended scenes?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wells seems to be interested on April 2024 forget the date lol. It's like he doing his own investigation on why The Flash went missing that day? What's alarming is how he obtained an article that's 10 yrs into the future.

    ReplyDelete
  53. No he's not. Eddie Thawne who become Joe West new partner is Professor Zoom.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It was only one scene, with what's his face, the doctor.
