Enjoyed the Edward Mordrake storyline. Of course Elsa would conjure him up. Glad he let the bearded lady go and didn't choose her. I wish he'd pick the strong man to take. That guy is such a horrible piece of garbage and we see it more and more with the flashbacks. I feel bad for Jimmy that is his father and for his current girlfriend who is stuck with him.
Also loved the Halloween vibe of Dandy putting on that costume and walking down the stairs with the camera from the masks perspective. I was expecting him to kill the maid so kind of glad she called him out on his weird psycho schtick several times before he just left the kitchen. I imagine the clown when he saw Dandy in clown gear was like dude your stealing my schtick please mess off now. Why do you keep following me. I love the horror campiness yet creepiness of Dandy's character with his spoiled brat antics yet creepy other side.
The introduction of Esmeralda was absolutely phenomenal and she's probably going to be my favorite character on the show this season. Always loved Emma Roberts.
Jessica Lange covering Lana Del Rey's "Gods and Monsters" was flawless. That woman can do no wrong. And I laughed so hard when her covering the song caused Edward Mordrake to be summoned XD
But the one character that definitely shined in this episode was Ethel. Kathy Bates' portrayal as Ethel was a little weird at first (her accent was very distracting) but damn she was amazing. A+ Kathy Bates! And I loved the personal backstory that we got on her this episode, it was very emotional. I like that we are getting to know these characters past's more and more as each episode passes by.
Wonder who Mordrake will choose to join him in hell if they're not pure enough. Hmmm, I'm intrigued. My guess is Dell.
Dandy continues to be one creepy fellow. I was actually surprised he didn't kill Nora considering how insane he has gotten. But yay! Him and Twisty are besties again. More fun, indeed!
Three episodes in and this season is outstanding (No Spoilers)! Between the characters, storyline(s), and most all the performances of Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson (Kathy Bates was unbelievable tonight) this is turning out to be a great season so far.......................thank you again, Ryan Murphy! 4 A SHOW FULL OF FREAKS, I am Nobody!!!
I loved the callbacks to the original Halloween film (Twisty behind the bushes, Dandy putting on the mask + the view through the eyes and his picking up the knife. even his cocking his head when he spoke to the maid). Not a huge Emma Roberts fan, she's just so out of her league with all of these great actors, I find her almost cartoonish at times, like she's acting in a high school play.
I did like Mordrake though I was happy this season was steering away from supernatural before. The Dandy / Gloria / Twisty scenes remain my favorite part of the show so far. I'm interested to see where they go with O'Hare's story and the Dell / Ethel / Jimmy storyline.
And Sarah Paulson is KILLING IT this season. The Bette and Dot scenes were so damn good, it's incredible how distinct she is playing them both.
OK once again, I'm the only one who didn't like it..? :D I don't know, to me, Halloween episode means creepy, murders, blood etc.. And nothing happened -__-" Though I'm glad we finally got to see Denis and Emma. I do think part 2 will be better.
Agree actually I've found this whole season pretty boring so far and the characters just aren't interesting. The creepy ghost guy last night was the most interesting character so far.
by boring do you mean slow? bc. I think/heard that the pace is deliberately slower so it'll be a build towards the end, unlike last year which burnt out so fast, and I like that the slower pace gives characters strong moments, e.g. every kathy bates scene in this ep
I doubt any season will be 100% supernatural-free (a good thing, IMO)... at first I thought the only weird thing would be the telepathy between Bette and Dot but I'm glad they included Mordrake. :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I love this season! emma robert's introduction was great, so was edward mordrake!

I agree, it's definitely possible they might end this season with Emma's character looking like Cleo.
ReplyDeleteI loved the scene of Elsa singing and Mordrake showing up.
ReplyDeleteKathy Bates needs another Emmy for this. I cannot believe how amazing she is.
Awesome episode!

What's it say about the show that Twisty the Clown is the most interesting character on the show?

ReplyDeleteOne of the best episodes this season, so far!
