The farewell season of Parenthood is moving forward. This week's Parenthood faced the tough decision of Zeek: it’s the day of his heart surgery.
The episode starts with a sweet moment: Adam, Sarah, Julia, Crosby and Amber show up at their family's house to reassure the patriarch about his operation. Amber talks to his granddad and after a sweet moment on their porch, she decides to tell Ryan that she is pregnant. In the meantime Hank has to deal with Ruby stealing in a shop, and Julia finally tells Joel the truth: she is seeing someone else.
The Waiting Room is so intense: I loved, as last week, the Amber & Zeek moment. It was heartfelt and emotional to see her granddad giving advice to a confused Amber. This season they are at their best: the most authentic and loveable characters. Also I really loved how they are portraying Zeek’s situation: the fear of losing him is clearly shown by the wonderful acting of Bonnie Bedelia and all the cast members. The use of their Wedding ring as a symbol of their troubled, but strong and happy marriage, was just perfect.
I enjoyed Amber and Ryan too: I liked how he reacted, and I can understand why Amber still doesn’t trust him. I am still hating Drew, one of the most boring and annoying character on Parenthood. He believes he knows everything, and he just started college!
What I really hated were the parts involving Hank and his family: we have just 10 episodes left, why we have to bear the useless Hank’s family life, full of stereotypes and a really not- so- interesting storyline? I hate his ex wife and his child. I just want to have the full screentime dedicated to the Braverman, not to a filler storyline of annoying characters.
All in all, the episode was as heartfelt as Parenthood always is. The plot is moving on, and we are left with Zeek still recovering, but already smiling again, on his hospital’s bed. Tissues are always needed with Parenthood, and The Waiting Room just confirms that. I can’t wait to see how the season will move on from this.
