New Girl - Episode 4.05 - Preview: "Landline"
Good morning, everyone! I am pleased to present a preview for this week’s episode of New Girl called “Landline”. The eponymous “landline” refers to the old-fashioned hard-wired telephone used in the 90’s to make and receive phone calls that is installed in the loft. Hard to believe anyone would still use such a thing since the invention of conference calling and Facetime on the iPhone, but the situation makes sense for anyone who has lived in a college dorm or next to construction crews.
Meanwhile, Jess and Coach are forced to deal with the ramifications of Coach’s sexual desire to date the school staff. Guest stars Erinn Hayes and Julian Morris round out the episode when Jess catches herself flirting with a new teacher and compromising her rule of documenting any fraternization. With the landline fully operational, Nick takes on the job of loft secretary due to his flexible work schedule. They decided to buy a landline phone, but not a voicemail machine or a phone capable of receiving voice messages. Nick is actually happy to take on the responsibility because it gives him unfettered access into the lives of his roommates, including their dirty secrets.
In general, I was happy to see the gang react the way they did around the landline phone because Generation Y/Z will not grow up in a world where floppy disks, dial-up Internet, and landline phones were the norm. Things are taken for granted in modern society and the landline phone was a cheesy, but fun way to spend some time with the roommates. I will leave you with that and be sure to check out New Girl on Tuesday when “Landline” airs at 9PM on FOX. Check back sometime after for my review and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
