After 10 films and $7 billion, Marvel Studios is finally stepping up the diversity in their long-range superhero slate. Introduced onstage today alongside Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, 42‘s Chadwick Boseman will be the first African-American superhero to lead a stand-alone Marvel tentpole in 2017’s Black Panther. I hear he’s signed a lucrative five-film deal that begins with 2016’s Captain America: Civil War continues through Marvel’s just-unveiled Phase 3 lineup.
Boseman joins other diverse characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but is the first to get his own standalone and that is notable. There have been rumors of Anthony Mackie and his supporting Falcon character taking over the Captain America shield from Chris Evans in some capacity after Avengers 3, which has been titled Avengers: Infinity War and split into two parts.

Yes! I have a feeling this is going to change Chadwick Boseman's life forever and I can't wait to see his portrayal as Black Panther. He's one of my all time favorite Marvel comicbook characters :)

ReplyDeleteCOME ON Marvel, you build a movie/TV universe and you need to connect them, if you can sign on an actor for a 3 day shoot for a promo you can get them to do a TV appearance as well
5 movies? So Captain America 3, Black Panther, the 2 infinity wars movies, and what?

ReplyDeleteNicole Baharie as Monica Lynne (his love interest) or Shuri (his sister, who becomes the ruler of Wakanda with T'Challa Away). I think Shuri is a good character.
ReplyDeleteSince it`s Carol Danvers they`re going with a female white actress. Winnick would be great. But i really want Natalie Dormer or Margot Robbie, since we can't have Rosamund Pike in the role (she is sadly to old for a movie like this).

ReplyDeleteI think Cap 3, Avengers Infinity War part 1 and 2, Black Panther and then a further BP movie in Phase 4. Depends if Infinity War counts as 1 or 2 movies in his contract.

ReplyDeleteThe first female Captain Marvel in the comics was Monica Rambeau, a black female character with the power to transform herself into any form of energy. However, the Captain Marvel announced will be Carol Danvers, a white woman, and current Captain Marvel in the comics. Chadwick Boseman is the actor playing Black Panther, King of Wakanda, who is black. Hope that clears things up :)

The MCU adapts content from the comics, it doesn't copy it directly. There is waaaaay too much comic history for that to be even remotely possible :S
