CBS GIVES FULL SEASON ORDERS TO ALL FOUR OF ITS NEW DRAMAS
"NCIS: New Orleans" and "Scorpion" Rank as the Season's #1 and #2 New Series

"Stalker" is a Time Period Winner in Viewers and Key Demos
CBS has given full season orders to all four of its new dramas, including the #1 and #2 new series of the season, NCIS: NEW ORLEANS and SCORPION, Sunday's #1 scripted broadcast, MADAM SECRETARY, and the time period-winning suspense thriller STALKER. These pick-ups include three of the top four new shows launched on television this season, and three series that rank among the top 15 of ALL prime time programs.
The four freshman dramas, along with the Network's returning hit series and NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, have helped CBS win the first four weeks of the season for the sixth consecutive year, with growth of +5% over the comparable period a year ago.
"These four shows have had an immediate impact on our schedule by improving nights, winning time periods and adding more hours of success across our primetime line up," said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment.
NCIS: NEW ORLEANS is the season's #1 new series, averaging 18.16 million viewers, 2.8 in adults 18-49 and 4.1 in adults 25-54, according to Nielsen most current ratings through Oct. 19. NCIS: NEW ORLEANS ranks second only to NCIS among all broadcast dramas, improving the year ago time period by +9% in viewers. In its most recent broadcast (Oct. 21), NCIS: NEW ORLEANS delivered its highest adults 18-49 rating since its series premiere.
SCORPION is the season's #2 new series and Monday's most-watched drama averaging 15.17 million viewers, 3.6 in adults 18-49 and 4.9 in adults 25-54. The high-octane drama has been key to CBS's Monday turnaround, improving the year ago time period by +74% in viewers, +29% in adults 18-49 and +36% in adults 25-54.
MADAM SECRETARY ranks as Sunday's #1 scripted broadcast and #4 new series with 13.53 million viewers, a +45% time period improvement. It averages 1.8 in adults 18-49 and 2.8 in adults 25-54 leading into THE GOOD WIFE, which has posted growth this season in viewers and adults 25-54.
STALKER has won its Wednesday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period in viewers and key demographics every week this season against its regular scripted competition, averaging 9.49 million viewers, 2.1 in adults 18-49 and 3.0 in adults 25-54.

Really happy about Scorpion but I thought they'd wait until after tonight
ReplyDeleteOkay as much as I like Maggie Q, I didn't see Stalker getting picked up for more episodes because of the ratings, and critics pretty much trashing the show every time they get the chance.

ReplyDeleteVery excited with Stalker's full season order :) Not a huge surprise that all four got extended. NCIS NOLA should have lasted 13 or so episodes, IMO. Call me a critic, but I don't know where it's going right now after 5 episodes. Regurgitated plot lines, cheesy jokes, and no character sub-plot. It's very stale at the moment. It's been relegated to my On-Demand watch list. Also, it's going to be very interesting to see how Madam Secretary might fare once football ends in a few months and how Scorpion might do without TBBT. Along with that, will Stalker keep its trend and win its timeslot?
ReplyDeleteI'm a wee bit surprised about Madam Secretary and Stalker but this decision certainly isn't out of the ordinary for CBS.
ReplyDeleteStalker is significantly below what CSI was pulling in the timeslot, but I'm not surprised - it's been stable and another compatible fit with CM. MS is headscratching - a fourth place finish in demo - and it's certainly not helping TGW, which is down in demo. I guess they wanted the Scorpion renewal prior to tomorrow's release of tonight's ratings. NOLA is a no-brainer.

I don't think they'll waste CSI:Cyber on the terrible 10pm Sunday slot, as CSI was so reliable and has crashed there massively, Mentalist has at least proved resilient there before, so is good to plug the hole for now. Perhaps Cyber could be better positioned in the summer? I don't know, it's a tight schedule with all 4 newbies extended. Where does Undercover Boss even go?!

ReplyDeleteBit of a stretch to put NCIS LA on Fridays. Although it might be a boost for the demo-deprived 5-0 and Blue Bloods, if NCIS LA continues to hit sub 9-10 million and sub 2.0 with their Monday time slot, it's very unreasonable for them to put it on Friday night at 8. I can see Madame Secretary swap with Undercover Boss or TAR and have the Friday schedule be MS+5-O+BB. Of course, none of this needs to happens if they hold out Battle Creek until the summer.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of timeslot improvement, I could see NCIS:LA bettering Amazing Race in that slot (and helping give a bump to H50), plus Battle Creek could do well with a solid Scorpion lead-in without Blacklist competition (as that will have moved to Thursdays).
ReplyDeleteWith one obvious exception, I'm happy with the full season pick-up of these shows. TV should be, first and foremost, entertainment...and all of these fit the bill. Except, of course, Stalker--that is a violent, misogynistic piece of crap.

ReplyDeleteI still don't think NCIS LA needs to move for their sake or for another show's sake. Once the Blacklist rolls out, its ratings along with Castle's are expected to rise a bit pending on how many people are going to stick to State of Affairs.

ReplyDeleteI thought it was more likely that only Madam got the full order rather than both it and Stalker, but I said it was possible that all four would get it. Happy with it!
All four are terrible shows IMO but have decent ratings so this was to be expected.
ReplyDeleteAll 3 shows are doing ok so not suprised to see them given full seasons. I'm curious as to where their mid season shows land now. I guess a few shows are going to air with very few breaks and be replaced towards the end of the season though that seems like a waste of time as those shows will likely then just be cancelled. Either that or CBS will add a few new shows to their summer line up.

Also happy about Stalker - good one, though was worried (still am) of it, even prepared myself for its cancelation so got pretty suprised of its full season. Great! Don't watch Madam ( hate politics) so don't care. Gave up watching NCIS LA a long tume ago. Tired of G's mystery... though characters were really good, especially Hetty. Hooked by NCIS NO instead. Will see where it goes so glad for full season.
ReplyDeleteHappy for Stalker....initially the ratings seemed like it was heading for cancellation which was a shame, because I thought it was one of the better new shows this season. I checked out Madame secretary and scorpion and they seemed OK but I lost interest after the first episodes. Maybe I'll try them again......
