Eight months after the sudden death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, Showtime has found an actor to replace him in the network’s dark comedy project Happyish. British actor-writer-comedian Steve Coogan (Philomena) is set to topline a new pilot for Happyish, which will be filmed in New York this December.

Dang. Showtime must have really liked this project to take another shot at it with Steve Coogan.

ReplyDeleteOn one hand, I'm glad, because it does sound good, but on the other hand... Steve Coogan is kind of weak as an actor. He's a funny guy when he's himself, but as an actor, there's just so much to be desired. I hope he can change my mind.
Steve Coogan is funny. See his guest appearance on Curb Your Enthusisam, or that pilot he did with David Shore (House), I dont know if that pilot is still around, but i liked it. Very Boston Leagal-ish in a good way like The Good Wife is, but not that strong in the pilot at least. Was almost to edgy for ABC anyways.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Hoffman and i really want to see the original pilot one day. I hope Showtime releases it. I think Hoffman would have want that the way i have known the actors from behind the scenes-stuff, interviews and such. He was really a great actor.
Coogan is maybe not Oscar-material, but he`s a funny actor that could do a sitcom. Especially when he`s not playing an american (that was kinda a downer on the pilot at ABC) like Happyish.
I wonder about the rest of the cast. Rhys Ifans was a solid casting i think, but hopefully they get him back or someone like him that can be funny.
