Gracepoint - Episode 1.04 - Review: "A New Suspect"

Episode 4 of Gracepoint was mainly about bringing in new suspects , which funny enough I said I wanted to see more suspects in my last review. We see two new people come into play who we didn't already know about , we see a family torn apart by the lies that were holding them together and a startling revelation comes to light.

Episode 4 picks up straight where we left of , only now we know who's number it was on the crossword. The number belongs to a man named Lars Pearson. Jack Reinhold confirms when asked that he is this mysterious backpacker we saw in episode 1. We also find out that Beth had previously spoken to him when he came into the visitors center where she worked, she claims he was awfully curious about Danny. Is there some connection we don't know about between Danny and this backpacker?

Could Lars Pearson be our killer? Perhaps Mr Pearson was the Rosemont killer who by the way they didn't catch as he got away , and he moved into town looking for his next victim, which would explain his curiosity with Danny and why he spoke to him out of the blue. Walking up to a stranger and speaking to them isn't the normal thing to do is it, well at least not in my book. Speaking of Lars Pearson, we see Tom Miller in the episode search through his mother's belongings, she happens to have the case files inside her bag. Whilst Ellie and her husband are in the kitchen talking , Tom digs into them files which he finds the picture of Lars Pearson and takes note of his number. This is particularly strange as to our knowledge he doesn't have any connection with Pearson, perhaps Tom wants to track Pearson down as maybe he wants to find Danny's killer and wants to start his own investigation. There could be another reason why he wants Pearson's number, which is maybe Pearson saw Tom kill Danny and needs to speak with Pearson to keep him quiet. I don't think Tom will turn out to be the killer, as there isn't too many killers in detective series that turn out to be children. One thing we know for sure is he wants to find Pearson, and I am sure he will.

We also find out a few things from the previous episodes that we didn't know about. Dean gave Chloe the drugs , and we see who he got them off,a guy named Mickey Felton. One thing I wasn't expecting was to find out that Danny was with Dean when he got the drugs. He wasn't meant to be, but Dean found Danny on the side of the road and decided to do the decent thing and take him home , after of course he secured the drugs. Why was Danny walking on the outskirts of town? There must be a reason, perhaps he was getting abused by his father, as we have learned that Mark did hit him a few times maybe Danny had enough. We learn that Danny was all alone as Danny said to Dean that he didn't have any friends. He used to have loads when he was apart of the football team.
I wonder what changed between Danny and Tom , could they have argued about something? It could be they argued about a girl , but that seems a fairly small reason to not be friends anymore, where with this show the reason is always a lot more shocking. I am sure we will find out what happened to their friendship with maybe a flashback or two. We also find out from Mickey Felton that Dean and Danny were arguing about Danny not waiting by the bike, when Dean asked him to.Danny followed Dean to the house to get the drugs instead. We also find out that Danny stole a crossword. Beth and Mark are distraught even more after hearing this,as they don't know this boy, only the sweet caring son in which they raised. Something changed Danny made him more cold towards people and depressed. A heated argument erupts in the Solano house when they show them the tape of Danny stealing. They find out he was with Dean as well. Beth doesn't know Chloe has a boyfriend which is why things get heated. It is a bit of a stupid thing to argue about especially when there are more important things to worry about, but I suppose everything has to be addressed and no secrets can stay hidden in Gracepoint.

We also see Susan Wright again, still lurking about town. She pays Vince a visit, and asks him to dinner. She says "we have to stick together" They are both clearly involved in something together, which Vince want's to forget about. Who knows, maybe Danny's killing required two people to move the body.
Vince could have killed Danny, for reasons not yet known and Susan saw him do it and decided to help him. They could also be related to one another, as she is a newcomer to the town and clearly came there for something or someone. None the less it was nice to see scenes between different characters rather than just seeing the detectives or Solanos. Also something worthy of noting is that Susan Wright lied about giving Mark the keys to the hut, when she in fact did. This makes me even more sure that her and Vince are connected somehow and that she wants to protect him and keep the police away from him. As if the police found out Mark cleaned the hut the police could knock at Vinces door as well.
Mr Connelly and Reverend Pete come to blows about Beth as well during the episode. This makes me certain they were childhood sweethearts , especially as he carries a picture of them two together. Could the Reverend be responsible for Dannys death? He may have done it to get close to Beth again , since we have seen them get closer each episode. She normally confides in him. I could see this being possible, as just because he is a man of faith doesn't mean he isn't capable. The last thing we see is a boat set on fire in the water. This has to be the boat that transported Danny to the shore, only question is who's is it?

Episode 4 Prime Suspect

Lars Person
It was a tough call in choosing this weeks prime suspect , I could have chosen Dean or Tom as well. I chose Pearson mainly because he has disappeared , no one knows where he is. He had taken a lot of interest in Danny previously by speaking to him , writing down his number and he was also curious about's Beth's picture of Danny. He might be innocent , but at the moment there isn't anything that is in his favor that could rule him out.

Summary
Another great episode! We find out that Danny wasn't who his family thought he was. Two new suspects come into play, we find some connections between some of our characters that we didn't know already. We see a piece of evidence burning , which means the killer is covering his tracks. We are not near to catching the killer , but we are near in learning everything about our characters.
