HBO has locked up its Game of Thrones stars for a potential seventh season of the hit drama.
The principal Thrones actors, who were signed only through six seasons of the show, have completed an extensive renegotiation of their contracts that includes an option for season 7, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. In exchange for the option, HBO has ponied up huge raises for seasons 5, 6 and the potential season 7 that will make the cast members among the highest paid on cable TV.

ReplyDeleteI don;t begrudge them the pay rise, but does this mean that season 7 will be the last? By then they'll have gone beyond the published books so I guess it could be.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't surprise me at all. I do wonder if the show will continue past season 7, no HBO show has ever gone beyond 7 or 8 seasons If I recall.
ReplyDeleteI can see the show going on for many seasons, but I'm not sure they can keep the cast that long. Maybe the final season will be extended to 12 or 14 episodes.
Maybe the final season will be extended to 12 or 14 episodes. I can see them perhaps giving a few extra episodes if needed. But I expect they will just extend the episode lengths longer than 1 hour.

ReplyDeleteI seriously doubt they will go beyond 10 episodes though. The creative team has stated a number of times that doing 10 episodes per season is the maximum allowed due to how long the production process takes.
I think I recall seeing a news that said that they won´t do more than 8 seasons, the producers.
ReplyDeleteIt´s not a surprise they want more money, the show is a huge hit and makes tons of money, so why not ask for more?
Right, but 7 year plan for the whole saga (7 books) or just the released 5?

ReplyDeleteThis upcoming Season 5 should take us through all of the released material from the first 5 books and include some from the yet to be released book The Winds of Winter.
I know a lot of somewhat major sub-plots from the books appear to be cut from the series(Iron Islands, Young Griff etc), but the story will still need to be moving very quickly for the next three seasons to get through all the material from the 5 released books and two unreleased books!
