THE CW ANNOUNCES FULL SEASON ORDERS FOR "THE FLASH" AND "JANE THE VIRGIN"

October 21, 2014 (Burbank, CA) — The CW has given full season orders to its two hit freshman series, THE FLASH and JANE THE VIRGIN, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.

THE FLASH debuted as the most-watched series premiere ever on The CW, scoring 6.1 million viewers in Live + 3 Day Nielsen ratings, and was the network's highest-rated series premiere among adults 18-49 in more than five years, since THE Vampire Diaries debuted in 2009.

The most critically acclaimed new series of the season, JANE THE VIRGIN, bowed with The CW's most-watched and highest-rated show in its time period in two years. TV Guide called JANE THE VIRGIN the "#1 Must-See" new show of the season, and named star Gina Rodriguez the "most inspiring young actress on TV today." Tim Goodman of the Hollywood Reporter said JANE was "by far the best network pilot –drama or comedy" this season.

"We have had a fantastic start to our season this year, with THE FLASH launching as our most-watched series premiere ever, and JANE THE VIRGIN recognized as the best new show this season by critics across the country," said Pedowitz. "Over the past three seasons, we have made it our mission to grow and to broaden out our audience, and to keep raising the bar with the quality and impact of our new shows, and THE FLASH and JANE have both exceeded our expectations on all counts. I'm thrilled to announce full season orders for both of these terrific new series."

THE FLASH is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Everwood"), Andrew Kreisberg ("Arrow," "Eli Stone"), David Nutter ("Arrow," "Game of Thrones") and Sarah Schechter. This series is based upon characters published by DC Entertainment.

JANE THE VIRGIN is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television, in association with Electus, with executive producers Jennie Snyder Urman ("Emily Owens, M.D."), Ben Silverman ("The Biggest Loser"), Gary Pearl ("10.5: Apocalypse") and Jorge Granier ("Que el Cielo Me Explique").

  2. Not surprised for The Flash (it's awesome!) but HELL YES to Jane the Virgin!! This show is such a big surprise for me and I'm already falling in love with it. Also, Gina Rodriguez is a gem.

  3. Nice! Is the first full season pick up for any network? Congrats to The Flash and to Jane.

  4. lol about time (for the flash anyway)

  5. no, Gotham HTGAWM, and Black-ish have all got full season orders.

  6. Duh The Flash. Bit surprised at Jane the Virgin, though.

  7. Woww!!! Great for both, I love them!!

  8. so one new show replaces T100 which I assume will have to air without Arrow as a lead in for at least a couple of episodes or the new show wont have a lead in at all? and the other will replace Reign which I think will be bumped to Friday?

  9. It premiered to a 0.6 on a monday night

    ReplyDelete
  10. They both have been doing well lately in ratings and viewes but having a full 22 episode order will determine if it will be renewed btw I'm rooting for the messengers and I zombie as well but I can't be sure if all will be renewed

  11. Really surprised CW gave full season order to JTV even after the final episode 2 ratings are in. For all we know, it could crash in the coming weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. very likely, still it's a win for that night....for now

    ReplyDelete
  13. True, but I'd have expected them to let it play out for a few more weeks first.

    ReplyDelete
  14. yeah, but i don't see it hitting 0.3's before spring, so ..!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, the adjustments, especially in Houston, which is one of the bigger affiliaties, they might expect less adjustments.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm surprised too but not in a bad way, and I don't even watch it. I thought they may have hesitated a while longer considering how Reign has disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Not surprises with Flash. Im happy with JTV!

    ReplyDelete
  18. actually it might hit 0.3s around january, still...22 episodes is a good run for a show as easily syndicatable as JtV

  19. Happy for both , especially for Jane :)

But i am afraid what will this mean for Reign in midseason

I only see 2 possibilities, sending Reign to Friday with HoD and keeping BatB for Summer. Or maybe premiere new show after The Flash (so it can get amazing lead in) and send Supernatural to Friday since it has pretty loyal fan-base, with HoD ?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yay for both! The CW is doing so great so far with the pilot shows!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yea most likely Reign will be moved to Friday's and The 100 will end before Arrow which leaves 2 spots open for Izombie and The messengers unless the CW is deciding to give one of their shows a summer time slot

    ReplyDelete
  22. Awesome for The Flash. Surprising for Jane The Virgin. I didn't expect a full season order this soon.

    ReplyDelete
  23. bear in mind you can easily air re-runs of such a light show. 22 episodes is a good shot.

    Also: it's a CBS show

    ReplyDelete
  24. So CBS should be next to give full season orders, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I know The CW wants to proof something with giving the order at the same time, but still think JtV will implode. But who knows they maybe teach me otherwise.
So Cw will have some big scheduling issues, especially if Reign bounces back. But let's see. . .

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not surprised about The Flash, Jane the Virgin on the other hand is a bit surprising.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am about tired of people trying to ship Supernatural back to Friday's to make room for other shows. The only shows that should be on Friday, if on at all, are Reign, BaTB and HoD. Everything else on the CW is holding it's own. Stop trying to fling SPN around like a red-headed step child. Mon/Tues/Wed are good, Thursday's are poor to middling. Move SPN to one of those nights if need be and those nights will still be good, Thursdays would be better but no way in hell do I want SPN paired with TVD.
Honestly, I think all of the CW's pilots are going to out do Reign, BatB and HoD so they should ship them all to the summer and let them burn off.

    ReplyDelete
  28. They only need a vacant slot for iZombie.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Very happy about both! Yes!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. So unbelievably happy about Jane the Virgin!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am not saying i want them to send Supernatural away. I am just saying i think it is a possibility, because lets be honest, none of other CW shows has as big loyal fan-base as Supernatural :) and at this moment , Supernatural has the best lead in possible, which i don't think it needs. The Flash could give a nice boost to other show, since i think Supernatural could get 1.0 on it's own too :)

.... Anyway, i am very interested to see how will they do their midseason schedule

How much i hope they would get at least 2 more hours a week of broadcasting ... if they got/bought (i do not really know how it works) Tuesday 10 PM slot after Supernatural i could see The Cw getting nice numbers there too

    ReplyDelete
  32. No surprise here, especially after JtV's ratings had an uptick last night. Good for both and good for the CW for getting at least one season out of the relatively inexpensive to produce Jane the Virgin.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Just finally release trailers for iZombie and The Messengers and it will be perfect day

    ReplyDelete
  34. This x100. The flash is fantastic and knew it would get picked up, but Jane the Virgin is truly one of a kind and Gina is amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  35. JTV will be down to 0.4's by the spring

    ReplyDelete
  36. I guess the CW liked the critical response JTV has been getting, their shows don't always do well with the critics so perhaps they wanted to stick by it. Who knows figuring out the CW and how they renew/cancel/extend shows is a mystery at times!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm not surprised. Both of these shows are a great addition to the CW line-up. I particularly love Jane The Virgin because it is different in comparison to the other CW shows and it's funny as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  38. YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! I am *so* thrilled. I knew The Flash pickup was coming, but I don't care about that...at all. But JtV, best new fall show along with Gotham and Marry Me (so far)... Episode 2 was as good or better than the pilot. THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Not surprised the Flash got a full season order but so happy it's 23 episodes like Arrow, JTV isn't as bad as I thought but a full season order this early? It's a little weird.

    ReplyDelete
  40. if it is. they still gonna air the full season so. Nothing bad there

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yay! I'm so happy, I like both shows and can't wait for more!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The Flash is great so good news.

    ReplyDelete
  43. JtV adjusted down to 0.5. Has CW mad a rash decision?

    ReplyDelete
  44. might have, guess we should wait till next week when hopefully it isnt pre-empted so we can get a better idea of how its doing?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think it will air all its episodes too maybe not on Monday or even during the regular season but it will air all its episodes. CW can still cut the order if ratings drop further.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well, Flash was just a matter of time with those ratings.

And well I guess I'm happy for those that enjoy Jane the Virgin, but I'm so not in the inteded target audience there.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not surprised that The Flash got picked up so quickly. It's obvious that fans love the show, but it's more important for CW to see the ratings, too, which are great. I really do love The Flash and I'm extra-happy that we'll get an extra episode at 23.

Now let's see if we can't get Caity Lotz to play Kara Zor-El on whichever network is doing Supergirl.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think SPN is great on Tuesday so keep it there.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Im so happy about Jane the Virgin!! It's surprisingly good!!!! Yesterday's episode was my first episode and I couldn't stop laughing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Please no. I liked her as Sara (after a while), but she just isn't a very good actress.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It did a 0.58 last week. I only have access to the numbers at the end of the week though, so I won't have the decimals for this week until Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I feel the same way the Flash isn't surprising at all because its just as great as Arrow!! But Jane the virgin I wasn't sure if the show would make it! I love it cause it's so different and keeps you wondering on whats going to happen next! Gina is a great actress!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Both of the shows are AWESOME in their own way, so I'm really happy about this! Here's hoping they keep the ratings up and get renewed for a second season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. i watched the premiere of Jane the Virgin after seeing the full season and i am pleasantly surprised. i loved it <3 I honestly thought it would be a miracle baby, but the way is been done is very believable way and the way everyone's lives are intertwined into a beautiful messy bundle.
