In a top-level showrunner pairing, Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids creator/executive producer Marc Cherry has partnered with Under The Dome showrunner Neal Baer for an action-adventure mystery drama project, Cheerleader Death Squad, which has been set up at the CW through CBS TV Studios, where Baer has an overall deal. Cherry and Baer will co-write the script with Blue Bloods executive producer Dan Truly, and the trio will executive produce alongside Cherry’s partner in Cherry/Wind Productions, Sabrina Wind.
Described as "Heathers meets Alias", Cheerleader Death Squad centers on a disgraced CIA agent-turned-teacher at an elite Washington D.C. prep school. When he realizes that his students have high-level access through personal connections, he trains a select few to be his eyes and ears into the world of international espionage and help him earn his way back into the agency

I like the title, and if it leans more towards the quirky humour of Heathers than to the cheesey spy drama of Alias then it might be OK.

ReplyDeleteAs much as it sounds intriguing,It would never get greenlighted for a series order.It is not compatible with CW audience.

While I like the idea, theirs nothing really compatible with this on The CW right now. If only they had this idea back when Nikita was on, it sounds like it might be compatible with that. Or if Identity was picked up to series for 2014-2015.
ReplyDeleteWith CBS behind this the cw will maybe give it a chance. But honestly it doesn't appear to follow a lot of logic. I like Cherry's work but don't know how he intends to make it work. It seems too random.

What I like in Marc Cherry's shows is the humor. If he can bring it to this script then I think it has potential. If the pilot is good, I think it can be paired with the Flash. It might not be a comic book show but both shows still share some elements.
ReplyDeleteFirst things first the CIA agent NEEDS to be female ( how awesome would it be if they could get Jennifer Garner, Yvonne Strahovski, or Sarah Michelle Gellar for the role ) NOT male.

ReplyDeleteHighschool/teenage shows still appeals to the network's demographic though. The characters in Reign & in The 100 are technicaly in that age group or very close to it.
