Episode 5.05 - "Loose Lips"

Directed By: Alex Chapple

This episode of Blue Bloods was all about the price we all pay for the right to free speech, and that was very quickly learned by Henry in tonight's episode. Also tonight we got even more of Jamie as he had a target on his head after helping a victim in the city.

Recap

Jamie tries to help Tina McDermott who has been beaten up by her ex-boyfriend but she runs in fear. Shortly thereafter, she ends up beaten to death and the ex targets Jamie for trying to help. When a masked attacker throws a molotov cocktail at Jamie and Eddie's patrol car, Jamie ends up with a protective detail.

When Danny and Baez bring in the stalker, Jamie and Eddie are unable to identifty him in a lineup. Later, the guy grabs Eddie off the street while she's off duty and on her cell to Jamie. Jamie, Danny and Baez manage to intercept the car he's driving with Eddie duct taped in the back seat before he can make it to his garage to kill her.

Henry shoots his mouth off at a fundraiser about how he would have handled a threat against one of his officers and it ends up being recorded and going viral on social media. When Frank refuses to talk to him about it, Garrett does but it only becomes an argument.

Nicky doesn't get into Rutgers University when she calls one of her teachers a bitch on Twitter. Erin makes her apologize to the teacher and realizes that the teacher holds a grudge against the entire Reagan family.

Review

Starting off with Henry, I think he is just stuck in this mindset that everything worked so well back in the day, but what Henry is failing to realize is that those methods are not a part of our society anymore. Unfortunately, Henry also doesn't realize that privacy isn't guaranteed anymore, especially as an ex-PC and the father of the current PC, Henry definitely needs to watch what he says.

But saying that, I do agree with Henry in the fact that he would do everything to take out the bastard who had the nerve to threaten a cop, but definitely Henry is wrong in the way to go about it. This episode definitely showed to us in a great way, the difference in generations of the Reagan family.

Speaking of privacy, Nicky had some trouble this week with what she had been writing on Twitter. Not to self, don't write about teachers for the whole world to see it. This affected Nicky in her college interview, but ultimately it was her teacher who had a problem with the whole Reagan family.

Through both Henry and Nicky this week, it really shows what kind of world me live in, and how times have changed for Henry and as put by Garrett "try and keep up". But Nicky's teacher, I can really understand why Nicky would be angry, but writing over Twitter is probably not the best way to go about it.

Finally, we got to see even more of Jamie this week, I knew from the start he would end up helping a young victim, Tina. This ultimately backfired when Jamie was targeted, this didn't seem to worry Jamie, and he was as stubborn as a Reagan.

The turning point when Eddie was abducted instead of Jamie was quite well done in my opinion, I especially loved the fact that Danny and Jamie both arrested the jerk. This storyline also showed to us how much Eddie and Jamie's partnership has grown over the years, but ultimately they still care for one another.

Quotes

Eddie: "For the record, this whole being partnered with a marked man thing isn't quite living up to the hype."

Garrett: "Five years in and I'm still trying to crack the code regarding the offspring."

Baez: "He give you anything?"
Danny: "Yeah, a stubborn attitude."
Baez: "A Reagan. I'm shocked"

Tina: "Look, I'm fine."
Jamie: "Those bruises on your face say different."

Sneak Peek for Episode 5.06 "Most Wanted"

Overall this was a great episode of Blue Bloods, this season is shaping up to be a great one. Something that Blue Bloods does very well at is presenting real life issues in a law enforcement family and he they deal with them. I think that this episode was one of those, especially with the privacy issues with Henry and Nicky.
