Hey there :) I have a post I am putting together of the bits we do know about S2, kind of like the Musketeers one, but it's a lot smaller I'm afraid! lol. I'm hoping to have it up in the next week or two hun. Here's one pic from filming I've got for it thou :)
I enjoyed Atlantis enough last year to actually be looking forward to it, especially if S2 is indeed a bit darker and more dramatic than S1. It will keep me entertained until February.
Den of Geek has posted an article about Atlantis 2's darker tone.....
"The second series of BBC fantasy series Atlantis is “a completely different show” says cast member, Mark Addy…
Returning to BBC One on Saturday the 15th of November is series two of Greek myth-inspired fantasy series Atlantis (well, the first chunk of series two at least. The second run is being split into two sections, one starting in November and the latter airing in early 2015). After series one, which showed plenty of promise but stumbled in a number of areas, failed to set critics’ worlds on fire, it’s little surprise that the message of the series two launch was all about change.
“They’ve almost rebooted the show” said Hercules actor Mark Addy (Game Of Thrones, The Full Monty), “I think it is a completely different show. It’s not totally different obviously, but it’s different in its nature and it’s an improvement.”
Jack Donnelly, who plays Atlantis lead Jason, agrees with his cast-mate, “It’s not the follow-up you would expect. They [writer Howard Overman and producers Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps] really have reinvented it. In every single way they could change it, I think they have. And I think the show is better for it, if I’m honest.”
So what’s changed? It’s tonally darker and more grown-up for a start. Sarah Parish, the actor behind scheming Queen Pasiphae, explains why: “After the first series we realised we were going to play at an 8.30pm slot, that was the slot we were going to be given. When we did the first series, we didn’t really know what slot we were going to be given so we did a show in the same vein as Merlin, and then we realised that what we’ve got actually is an older slot so we had to fiddle around and make it fit that 8.30pm slot. Merlin definitely went darker in its fourth and fifth series, which we’ve done now early on. Fans seemed to react well to that, so I’m hoping that we’ll get the same reaction.” Donnelly describes the new series as less of a “buddy story” and "much darker, much more action-packed," and much more about the world at large, how Atlantis works, how the islands around Atlantis work.”
Sounds promising, although the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Cool, when is this back?
ReplyDeleteI don't think any official date has been set yet.
ReplyDeleteThey put it up on their Facebook page just under an hour ago :)
ReplyDelete15th of November? :( Well, I don't care, this is awesome!!!!! I can't wait for this new season!! Please, I want Atlantis now!!! :D
ReplyDeleteYep, just updating ;)
ReplyDeletecant wait
ReplyDeleteOh yea, my Ancient time show is back. Love that comedic cast + plus the Adventures!
ReplyDeletePS- every time.... I forget how to spell Ancient, and wind up googling it. If anyone knows a tip to remember it forever let me know.
Looking forward to the new series of Atlantis.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I won't be able to watch it 'live' because I'm at work Saturday evenings but I'll catch up as soon as I can.
What early bits of info we have do suggest that S2 will have a slight darker feel and I'm surprised at the turn of events at the start of the series.

ReplyDeleteI'm rewatching S1 at present just to get myself up to date with all that happened first time round again.
ReplyDeleteHmm, may be 'An ent' (as in huge old tree from LotR) with 'ci' (see I) in the middle?
Cheers Sandi.. :)
