Z Nation - Philly Feast - Review

The First couple of minutes introduced us to a scene of Cassandra's past. She was a part of this "cult" that lured in men looking for company. She would take them to the bedroom, and whilst they are distracted she would taser them. She is effectively bate. It was refreshing to see something about one of our characters pasts since we don't really know much about any of them. I hope Z Nation can explore more of other characters in later episodes, just to give us a brief outline of what their life was like prior to the outbreak.

The team is driving through the town of Philly when they come across liberty bell which is strapped down onto a truck. They decide to take advantage of a car with gas in it and use it as a secondary car. About a minute later as begin to drive off Warren, who is driving the car with the bell on swerves to avoid another car, sending the bell rolling down. It provided us with one of the best scenes from the whole series. Who knew a watching a bell destroy the zombies would be so satisfying? I do have to appreciate the level of entertainment this show brings, it may be cheesy, but the different ways of killing zombies are very intriguing to watch, making me wonder what they will come up with next.

The team decide to stop and scavenge for food. Addy and Mac set off to find a radio in a bid to contact Citizen Z. The rest of the group split off into groups of threes to scavenge for supplies. Nothing interesting really happened, until Addy came across a police car, she got the radio to work and managed to contact our good old friend Citizen Z. The conversation between them lasted a mere 10 seconds as she got taken by the men looking for Cassandra. Just before that we saw the scene with Citizen Z burping, it was such a pointless scene and not needed. I don't want to spend my time watching someone burp on screen. Citizen Z continues to get on my nerves as a couple of minutes after she got taken it was just him repeating the same thing he says every episode over and over. If I hear "delta X-Ray come in" again in the next episode I may have to mute my volume. Can they not think of anything else for him to say? How about "Addy are you there" since she told him her name. He needs to drop the military terms.

The main chunk of the episode was spent hatching a plan to rescue Addy from Tobias Campbell, who is the head of this new group. Cassandra informs the group who these men are and how dangerous they are. She tells them this whilst being threatened at Gunpoint by Warren, who is demanding answers. This also felt a bit unnecessary. Why wouldn't she just tell them? If she hated her previous group so much and she obviously knew the group would go after Addy why not just tell them, instead of running away. Anyway, to cut a long story short, Cassandra's old group are cannibals that lure people, mainly men in and then tase them and then tie them up in this room ready to be eaten.

They eat them whilst they are still alive, so they don't become infected. After, now knowing the whereabouts of Addy the team head out to get her. They fail in an attempt to keep the group intact as they end up having to swap Cassandra for Addy after Addy was being held at knifepoint and Tobias's men pull out a 50 caliber machine gun. 10k I think could have killed Tobias though before he killed Addy as he has a great shot and it would've saved so much time. Once Addy is safe and secure, they decide they can't leave Cassandra so head back to her, this time with a well thought out plan. They strap a megaphone to the top of the car and play music to attract the zombies with the help from Citizen Z, who gets the music playing. Doc infiltrates the camp disguised as a man looking for woman companionship. Cassandra get’s offered to him. It was a very funny scene between them two when they were making sex noises in the trailer. They didn't even get any privacy with Tobias standing right outside. After thinking Cassandra had tasered Doc, he and his right-hand man enter, only for Tobias to be tasered IN THE MOUTH, which must have hurt. The other guy gets shot in the head by doc with one of the smallest pistols I've ever seen.

The remaining members of our group are in the truck with 10k just outside the camp on a ridge with his sniper. They breach the gate with the truck with a horde of zombie’s right behind them. The man on the 50 caliber has the worst aim ever; he looked like an idiot missing nearly all his shots when he could have easily killed all of them. 10k takes him out anyway with one of the greatest
shots ever.

He hit him in the mouth. The bullet went through his mouth and then through this small gap in a wall and then hit a gasoline canister and exploded. It was an unbelievably good shot. I thought their plan was solid and worked to the best outcome. They all then leave on the truck in one piece. I do have to say I would've liked the idea of a big bad villain in the series to keep things interesting, maybe there will be, but one thing's for sure it won't be Tobias. Z Nation wouldn't be the same if Citizen Z didn't provide us with yet another one of his cheesy speeches. I don't know why they bother, to me he just looks stupid and saying a load of rubbish that I don't really care about. I even just quit watching it halfway through his speech, it was that irritating. Please, enough of the cheesiness.

Summary
I dare say I actually enjoyed most of the episode. It was much better than the previous two episodes. There was a variety of action, and the show explored some backstory to one of our characters which was nice to see. I hope the show can go up from here and not return to what the pilot was like, a mess.
