I think she's an awful character at this point, but that's not to say they can't make her even more annoying. The choices don't really reflect the question, do they?
ReplyDeleteI have to say i've outgrown her character over time.Previously she was innocent yet a strong personality but now she has become a weak and whiny character.Such a shame!
ReplyDeleteShe it the rock bottom when she leave stefan for damon...
ReplyDeleteIt's funny to see that everyone hates Elena but, many of them, loved Katherine.
ReplyDeleteKatherine was the best. I miss her so much!
N, I think Elena has grown a lot and knows what she wants now, she was a girl when the show started, now she´s turned into a woman.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the hate. She's not my favorite character, but I still see her as one of the better ones. I always find it strange that viewers will blindly adore awful characters like Katherine or Klaus who have done so many terrible things to people, yet the moment Elena does anything mildly selfish or hypocritical, she's the worst person ever. It reminds me of the ridiculous Bonnie hate in the earlier seasons; she wasn't even allowed to mourn the death of her loved ones without people calling her whiny. Or the recent hatred for Tyler who had everything taken away from him, thanks to Klaus. It seems like being a murdering self-serving psychopath is the only way to get the respect of most online fans of this show. Between Plec and the very vocal online fandom, I really can't decide who has ruined this show the most.
ReplyDeleteI clicked on No because while I think she's about to hit rock bottom emotionally, I don't believe that she's "changed too much." I think this poll was intended to spark discussion about Elena's character in general more than where her character is at the present time. In general, Elena has done the best that she can while suffering through too much tragedy, and she's about to struggle through more tragedy. Because her sire and the love of her life was one of the people who died recently, she is going to hit rock bottom in the sense that she will do things that she normally would never do. It doesn't mean that she's changed completely. It just means that she's suffering and needs to change her life situation. Isobel warned Elena that if she continued with a Salvatore brother on each arm, Elena would end up dead. Elena is now a vampire, but only because by some stroke of luck she had vampire blood in her system when Rebekah maliciously drowned her to death. Elena wouldn't have even been on that bridge, and Rebekah might have been slightly calmer, if Damon hadn't recruited Matt to interfere with the plan Elena made with Elijah.
ReplyDeleteSo in short, yes, Elena has hit rock bottom, but only because of the Salvatore brothers. With Stefan moving on and Damon out of the picture, Elena has some time to gather herself and experience vampire life without those two drama-inducing influences.
she hasn't reached rock bottom because that's simply her character: annoying.
ReplyDeleteRock bottom was when she flipped her humanity switch, she's not quite there yet now
ReplyDeleteIf Elena wasn't annoying (which she is) we'd probably we watching a show about a drunk/high college girl who does nothing with her life because oh that's right, all her family are dead or have died and even her friends have died, some came back to life of course because that's not confusing. She has been through a lot! Human sacrifice anyone? Find out who your real dad is and then he dies? Find out who your real mom is and she's a bitch who ALSO dies in front of you? Elena can't catch a break and I think from that stand point she is still pretty sane.
ReplyDeleteThere should be another option, I've always hated her goody-two-shoes attitude and I like her much more now than I did before which doesn't change that her character is pretty boring most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI still & always & forever love Damon, but I'm tired of Elena
ReplyDeleteI don't like Elena. She's too whiny and I'm tired of her. She should change her attitude. She could be good without being annoying.
ReplyDeleteI liked her in the books.
ReplyDeleteThere is no option "I've never liked her, she is the least interesting character of the show" ? XD
ReplyDeleteno, I still like her! it would be extremely weird if (after everything she's been through!) she'd still be the little innocent girl she was in season one!
ReplyDeleteI think she's fantastic and I've loved her character evolution. I haven't got the faintest idea what on earth people are talking about when they claim she's ruined or whatever. She's just grown up!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with all of this (apart from the comment about Plec and the show being ruined; I like Plec and still love the show). It's not even that I don't get the appeal of the self-serving psychopath characters, because I actually like a lot of them. But the rush to condemn Elena (and yes, Bonnie and Tyler) for every little thing and to declare her "ruined" because oh my god, sometimes a 18/19 year old has moments of self-absorption or selfishness is just really confusing to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes also on her grief seeming like a normal reaction. I'm not gonna lie, I find some of the snottier reactions from this fandom about how her being upset over her boyfriend dying means she's ruined as a character totally baffling. What were people expecting, for her to throw a party?!
