E! News sat down with one of the busiest and most kickass showrunners in the biz, Julie Plec, aka the lady who's brought us some of our favorite couples in pop culture, and she had some awesome scoop to share with us about which TVD star is swapping shows for an episode on The Originals this season and why.
And we're not exaggerating when we say that it's as amazing as you could ever hope for.
Who's ready for yet another impressive role from doppelganger expert Nina Dobrev?
That's right, the TVD star is about to show off her acting chops once more by introducing another doppelganger via flashbacks to the TVD/Originals universe.
"There's a lot of people that could cross over, and when we plan our crossovers, we like to think of the most clever way to integrate The Vampire Diaries mythology into The Originals mythology," Plec tells us. "There was a character's name introduced a long time ago in season three in association with Klaus [Joseph Morgan] and Elijah [Daniel Gillies] and how they became vampires and a girl that they both loved a long time ago who was the original doppelgänger, Tatia. So Nina Dobrev will be visiting The Originals for a nice little storyline in our fifth episode which airs November 3."

I was actually kind of surprised they never showed her in the flashbacks during Season 3 after Elijah mentioned her but I don't know that I want to see a second love-triangle with Klaus/Elijah the one they're in with Hayley is bad enough.
ReplyDeleteAfter we just got that interview though about no more doppelgangers (not even Katherine) I really thought Nina was going to be done playing anyone but Elena so I'm a bit surprised.
Finally my wish has been granted.I was thinking since season 3 WTH they would mention such an important character only to talk about abot her never again.It took them 2 seasons to get there!Can't wait for the flashback scenes!One thing TVD?TO does great is their FB sequences!

ReplyDeleteI was really pissed when they put TO on that monday death slot.Good luck going against all that huge competitions!It just hope they ratings doesn't take a tumble.Reign,on the other hand,got the advantage of airing behind TVD whole season despite performing rather poorly.Still they put it behind TVD again this fall.I think CW realized the moment reign moves away from TVD,it would end up dead!

ReplyDeleteTatia's coming?! That's really interesting cause this story had been begging to be explored for years now, I'm glad they're going down this road. This one just makes perfect and I can't wait to see what happened. Plus, Dobrev, Morgan and Gillies chemistry is off the charts. Love them and I can't wait to see that. Also, sorry to bring this up, but I'm glad no fanservice is involved in this one lol!

ReplyDeleteThey had said outright thought that it would not be Caroline or Alaric crossing over. A lot of people had thought maybe Alaric being an Original would cross-over especially with Esther back in the picture.

ReplyDeleteWell wouldn´t Amara be the original doppleganger or has master julie forgotten her on writing! oh and this is coup out crossover since tatia never appeared on TVD BUT i agree with not crossing Caroline over yet since TO klaus isn´t worthy of her! neither is stefan for that matter just single caroline...lets be original and try that for a season

ReplyDeleteExactly. When I read the title I was already rolling my eyes thinking it was going to be more Klaroline crap. But it seems the writers know they need to step up their game and are going to do a relevant storyline.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I was relieved too that they decided to write something that really is 'organic' like JP said, IMO. I'm quite convinced it'll serve the story.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm pretty sure Caroline will pop up eventually one way or another but I also think the writers will want to bring better closure to KC and focus on something else entirely (finger crossed, it won't be something that's just ship-related either)... Well, at least I hope so, because, first I'm really over this thing, second it wouldn't make any sense for them to continue just to please one group of people.

I don't think they're in a love triangle with Hayley. Their intentions for Hayley are very different -- Klaus just caring about Hayley because of the baby vs Elijah actually really caring for Hayley. Klaus even acknowledged the fact that Elijah cares for her in the finale ("You can tell your niece how much you cared for her mother...") So it's not a love triangle at this point, not yet at least. Not sure if the writers are going to change that now that the baby is out of the picture and Hayley is a hybrid. Plus there's still that betrothal to Jackson element that needs to be addressed. So this love story (or stories) has a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteOn the Tatia storyline though, it was quite clear that they both loved her, so it'd be interesting to see how that will play out, see some similarity or difference between the Salvatore brothers love triangles with Katherine and Elena.

So,she can act!You just have to give as some material to play the character effectively like as kat,she is amazing but her portrayal of elena now-a-days is boring and predictable.It has nothing to do with her acting skills i'm afraid!It's just my opinion though!

ReplyDeleteIf "occurred in their past" is a detail, then it's no more inherently relevant than Klaroline would be. In terms of plot originality, it is less relevant due to the sheer amount the doppelganger subject has been beaten into the ground. Klaroline is beaten to death online, but has never been more than a "B" plot on the show.
ReplyDeleteRe-hashing doppelgangers -- the very impetus behind TVD, and related to the main plots of every single season so far -- is such a weak move that there isn't a single plot they could use that would be less relevant to viewers.
Could looking into Mikael and Klaus be interesting? Sure. Do we need another doppelganger story? No. No we do not.
Off the top of my head, I know that the AV Club tends to love it, and that's about as far from "no-name" as you can get.
ReplyDeleteIt does not count. Cast crossovers are not a thing. That's why nobody describes Bones as being a cast crossover with Angel.
ReplyDeleteso who got the emmy nomination? :P 100 and Originals, that's who (I'm only kidding here, no nomination was of any significance but calling Reign critically acclaimed is over exeggerating, it has positive reviews going on. As has Originals wich is a pretty well seller)

The character tatia was introduced in the TVD world,who is crossing over in TO for flashback purpose.I call that a legit crossover scenario.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to get more insight to the doppelganger beginning story & for flashbacks period, but I hope this isn't the crossover that Julie was talking about that was going to happen. This isn't a crossover. Nina Dobrev going to another show to portray a character never bfore seen, does not count as a crossover. If this is the "crossover", then that sucks.
ReplyDeleteBut they are supposed to be different people, separated by hundreds of years, nationalities, age, and experience. If the costume and hair people didn't give her something different, you could never have told them apart. That's why it was always so absurd when they "swapped." They stand the same, they move the same. The only difference is one had relatively interesting lines and actions and the other had whiny, uninteresting lines and actions. Tatiana Masleny and the chick from the Lying Game created different characters, characters that had their own easily identifiable selves. Nina Dobrev just plays one with better clothes and fluffier hair.

ReplyDeleteThat Tatia was introduced IN that world doesn't really have any bearing on something being a crossover. If it did, then TO would be considered an ongoing crossover and not a spinoff.

A) Character appears regularly in series A.
B) Character makes appearances in series B.
C) Character returns to series A.
This is missing the defining element C.
Trust me when i say this,it's a entertaining show which can best be enjoyed without expectations!Anything more than that is stretching it too far IMO.

Another crossover could be hayley trying to come to terms with being a hybrid and seek out Tyler's advice.
But the crossover I think that is likely to happen is Alaric. I think they brought Alaric back at the same time they brought Esther back for a reason. I think there is still unfinished business between the two.
I think they are grooming Alaric to get a spin off on his own. But yes, there is a lot of space for the shows to crossover.
