Day ten saw Buffy take out The Vampire Diaries, while The Pretender exited the competition at the hands of Burn Notice.
A quick plug to Adam, who as you know, isn't running this competition this year. Instead, he's been working on his own TV Pilot, and needs your vote to help win the Raindance Film Festival's Web Series Pilot competition. Back to our competition. Today we see one of the biggest supported shows on the site - Beauty and the Beast - which takes on Alias. We then have Charmed facing Sleepy Hollow.

ReplyDeleteCharmed was a fun show when it started but as it continued it gave the actors too much creative power over their characters, in return Phoebe and Piper became unbearably perfect characters (Milano and Combs served as producers at that time)
Alias was a good spy show.
BatB is...a disgrace to the Perlman/Hamillton original

ReplyDeleteALIAS was an easy choice as I'm not a big Beauty and the Beast fan. The second poll sucked for me today. I love Sleepy Hollow but Charmed is one of my all-time favorites. So Charmed it is.

First is easy - Alias, hands down.
ReplyDeleteCharmed and Sleepy Hollow is difficult. Charmed was one of my first favorite TV shows, but I currently enjoy Sleepy Hollow more than I'd enjoy re-watching an episode of Charmed. I guess I'll go Sleepy Hollow.

ReplyDeleteI voted for Beauty and the Beast and Sleepy Hollow because I like these characters, and I am invested in what happens to them. I also enjoy the blend of drama, fantasy, humor, banter, and romance contained in both shows. Although I did enjoy Charmed, I prefer Sleepy Hollow. I tried watching Alias, but I never connected to the characters in that series.

ReplyDeleteThe Beauty and the Beast, is not my kind of show. Sorry Beasties! Even though i have only now, gotten to season 1 (last few eps) of Alias, i'm a huge fan. I like Charmed a lot. But i didn't like what the writers did to Cole. And it started to get too sappy for me, in the later seasons.
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow took me completely by surprise. I was even going to watch it, because i thought it was going to be, just a modern version of the same story. My son talked me into giving it a try, boy do i owe him. The headless horseman, as one of the four horseman of the apocalypse. Great acting, great charaters, great twists,wow! Second only to Les Revenants as my favorite new show of 2013.
Alias and Sleepy Hollow today - recently found Alias on Netflix...while I've only seen a few episodes, it has impressed me more that all the first season of Beauty and the Beast. Never got into Charmed but since Sleepy Hollow is one of my current favorites, it probably would've gotten my vote anyway!

ReplyDeleteAlias is one of my all time favorite shows and I'm a big fan of BATB obviously, but after the hot mess they pulled last season I lost the passion I once felt for the series. So I definitely have to go for Alias. No one went through more to be together than Sydney and Vaughn! Sleepy Hollow and Charmed. I liked Charmed the first 3 seasons after that it went downhill for me. Pretty ironic that the same producer took over BATB this past season! Love Sleepy Hollow! One of the best shows on television.

ReplyDeleteAlias, despite the many missteps in Seasons 3-5, is one of my favorite shows ever. First-rate acting, complex characters and story, kickass action/fight scenes, brilliant plot twists, breathless pace, top-notch production values for TV... simply awesome. I'd rather not say what the fact that BatB is winning this poll says about the human condition... or maybe I just did. Oops.

ReplyDeleteBTW, Alias had more than 4 Emmy nominations because Jennifer Garner alone garnered (heh) 4 nominations, one for every season except the last. Victor Garber (3 times) and Lena Olin were also nominated. And that's if you only count major categories, because it had both wins and nominations in smaller ones like hairstyling, art direction and stunts, too.

ReplyDeleteFor the second poll I went with Charmed.The last couple of seasons weren't that good,but generally it is a favorite of mine.Sleepy Hollow is also good,but I've only watched a few episodes.

ReplyDeleteI loved Charmed as a kid but Sleepy Hollow was such a surprise, I just have to go with it.
I'm one of them too. I watched the original BatB as a teen, and I have many fond memories of that show. I also love the new BatB. I see them as separate entities, and I think that comparing them is equivalent to comparing apples to oranges.
ReplyDeletePlease don't presume to think that all BatB fans are brainless twits simply because they don't happen to agree with you. I tried watching Alias, but I never liked it because I never felt an emotional connection to any of the characters. If I am going to choose to spend hours of my time with a tv series, I have to care about the characters in that series. I understood the complexities of the show's plot. I just wasn't interested in the outcome of that plot.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's all about people understanding Alias. The show started during a time when spies were all the rage because of 9/11, etc., and people of a certain age were glad to see the stories on Alias. I think the demographic is the issue here. The majority of Beauty and the Beast fans are teenagers who were too young to enjoy Alias when it was on the air because it's not a genre that adolescents typically choose to watch. I can't get into Beauty and the Beast because it feels like it's for people a lot younger than me. Age, genre, and political perspectives could all play a role in whether or not people vote for Alias over Beauty and the Beast.

ReplyDeleteI don't presume that based on their agreeing or disagreeing or me, I presume it based on their behavior on this site, hashtags and all. They come off as immature and unable to comprehend anything more nuanced than "VINCAT ARE OTP!!!!!!!111". But I'm aware it's not all BatB fans, just a large, vocal, and annoying group.

ReplyDeleteI disagree. A good chunk of the BATB fans are older than one would think. I think that people are split on Alias (as they are sometimes with Bad Robot in general), because it was more than a family spy drama, but a family spy drama with a metaphysical mythology (season 3 is oh so where FRINGE comes from--and why Kurtzman and Orci would have a creation credit on it) and that is an early example of more common genre bending-and not everyone's cup of tea. (The idea for Alias was also conceived prior to 911 according to J.J. Abrams who has said the idea came from him joking about Felicity being a spy during the summer...)
