No vote for me today. Good luck to today's sets of fans!
ReplyDeleteBuffy!
ReplyDeleteBuffy! What's The Pretender?
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly certain that anybody who votes for TVD over Buffy has probably never watched an episode of Buffy before.
ReplyDeleteTVD is what got me started on this whole tv shows in the first place so even though buffy is one the all-time favourites of mine,my vote will always go for TVD irrespective of the poll result! Didn't watch either of the shows in the 2nd poll.
ReplyDeleteSo sad I missed yesterday's polls. I would have voted Stargate SG-1, although again I liked and fell out of of love with all of yesterday's poll shows at some point.
ReplyDeleteToday 2 of my favorite cancelled shows are running and surprise of all surprises, they are not running against each other. Woo hoo for me! Buffy, the pre-Dawn years, is still one of my favorite series ever. As for Burn Notice, I miss it more and more. Nothing has taken its place for me. Plus Fiona Glenanne may be my favorite female character of all time. She rocked!
Buffy and The Pretender, it's a no contest for me today.
ReplyDeleteThe other day I was doing some cleaning on my video shelves and I found VHS tapes of Buffy and I still keep them, that's how crazy of a fan I am.
I miss The Pretender and most of all I'm still annoyed we didn't really get a satisfying ending. This show had such potential.
The Pretender of course! A great series, with great actors and characters!
ReplyDeleteThe Pretender really had great potential. And Andrea Parker was great in it!
ReplyDeleteTVD has stolen so many of its ideas from Buffy: the main female character (though Elena will never rise to the level of awesomeness that is Buffy), the fact that she goes from one vampire to another (Spike and Angel were even from the same "family"), the absence of parental figures even the structure of her group of friends (Willow/Bonnie, Cordelia/Caroline, Dawn/Jeremy, Xander/Matt).
ReplyDeleteBuffy, I still have to catch up, but I have liked it so far
ReplyDeleteEven the best of TVD can't compare to the worst of Buffy. And I don't miss any episode of TVD, but Buffy is my Buffy :). I haven't seen any of the other two.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, there were some S1 episodes that were pretty terrible. Buffy is way better than TVD though
ReplyDeleteBasically it was about a guy who was such a genius that he could pretend to be anyone he wanted. When he was a kid he was kidnapped by an evil organization called The Centre and they used him as a lab rat for decades until he escaped. The whole plot was the Pretender trying to find his family while pretending to be various people to solve cases and be a good Samaritan; and the Centre always running after him and trying to recapture him.
ReplyDeleteIt was really good except perhaps for plot resolutions, the end was not very satisfying.
Funny enough Jeffrey Donovan who was the main character on Burn Notice actually played the Pretender's brother in a few episodes. He was one of my favorite guest characters so of course he was killed.
Sounds like a very interesting premise; I never heard of the show before, but it does sound like a good ride
ReplyDeleteShe was, I always marveled at how she could look so badass in such short skirts.
ReplyDeleteI actually disagree with you on that. Personally I don't think TVD stole those particular things. However I will concede that I did raise an eyebrow with the Stefan 'Ripper' storyline, and the part where Stefan was locked in a box and thrown into a quarry. Granted in Angel he was locked in a safe and thrown into the ocean but still. For me, that was a little bit too similar for my tastes. If you do a quick google search you can see hundreds of pages talking about how TVD has ripped off Buffy in various ways (some with more valid points than others). But you have to laugh because even TVD wiki website has an article comparing all of the things that TVD has done that Buffy already did. I get that genre shows often borrow from each other, and that's fine. What bothered me about how TVD started to copy Buffy was that it was executing it so poorly, and it made me feel very defensive of Buffy like some kind of vapid creature was trying to tarnish and cash in on Buffy's good will so to speak.
ReplyDeleteYou're watching it for the first time?! Oh how I envy you haha. How far into it are you?
ReplyDeleteJust a figurative way to talk! I agree that some S1 episodes from Buffy were a bit meh, anyways I like that season more than any TVD seasons ;)
ReplyDeletePS: Your name... Are you spanish? Because I am :P
Nothing again...never watched Burn Notice or Vampire Diaries and only a very few Buffy and The Pretender, but not enough to vote.
ReplyDeleteYes of course, I agree with you. It's not so much that they borrowed from Buffy, it's how transparently they did it and how poorly they used what they took. I understand shows getting inspired by other shows, it happens in a lot of other media, in literature, in cinema, in painting etc. But if you're gonna take something from a source then you gotta improve it somehow not just tack it on with the rest of your material because it worked before so it should work again.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and Burn Notice. I miss Sunnydale. I do not miss Dawn.
ReplyDeleteJust Buffy.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and Burn Notice for me too. Completely agree with you about Fiona. One of my all time favorite female characters. She was one of a kind to be sure! I loved how she always packed C-4 around in her purse like most women carried a compact and lipstick! lol! Fi's philosophy was never leave home without it! Michael constantly telling her not to blow up the neighborhood! Good times!
ReplyDeleteBuffy! Why haven't the TVD voters come out and comment yet?!
ReplyDeleteBuffy. Any time, Any day !
ReplyDeleteI know people compare TVD with Buffy all the time because they're both vampire shows but there's no comparison here really. TVD is a nice enough show with exaggerated love triangles and soapy plots, whereas BtVS is probably one of the greatest works of fantasy of all time, so yeah, pretty easy choice for me.
ReplyDeleteUgh at TVD and BTVS comparisons. No,no, no. JP could never be Joss Whedon. Elena couldn't touch Buffy and Stefan nor Damon come close to Angel. For more than one reason. One of those being, Buffy and Angel knew how to fight. Enemies and each other. Buffy, Faith, Angel and Spike didn't get their butts kicked on a regular basis. They were strong, supernatural creatures and they were written that way. Damon gets slapped around more than a newborn babies bottom. Stefan is pretty close to that and Elena is such a priss. I would give my eye teeth for a BTVS/Supernatural/TVD crossover.
ReplyDeleteThe pretender was a great show, I was quite young when I watched it last. Wonder if it's on DVD? I might rewatch it sometime. They also made a few movies after the show had ended to tie up loose ends. I could never get into Burn Notice. Buffy all the way today!
ReplyDeleteBuffy all the way! It isn´t even close
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite show, Buffy, and Burn Notice for me today.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and Burn Notice. Buffy is easily better than TVD and i haven't watched The Pretender/
ReplyDeleteEasy pick: Buffy hands down. (don't know The Pretender or Burn Notice) It's one of my favorite shows of all time (if not THE show), it was so cleverly written, acted and no doubt IMHO superior to TVD.
ReplyDeleteI will take on your word! Buffy so far has been really good, I'm waiting for the moment when it becomes awesome
ReplyDeleteBuffy and Burn Notice!
ReplyDeleteEven though I loved Buffy, I voted TVD because it used to be better than it currently is. I don't really care what people say about it, TVD will always remain a favorite of mine no matter how laughably awful it becomes.
ReplyDeleteI also voted Burn Notice because its Burn Notice and I miss it terribly. :'(
Plus, I have no idea what The Pretender even is...And I'm a 90's kid! O_o
Only The Pretender today.
ReplyDeleteBuffy, though I only watched until she killed Angelus, and The Pretender, I never watched the series but there was TV movie after the show was cancelled I assume, and I liked that, so that's that,
ReplyDeleteBuffy made vampires feels fun and scary.
ReplyDeleteTVD made vampires corny as much as Twilight did.
*hides in corner, preparing for the flood of hate to come*

ReplyDeletenah, I actually agree. Buffy is brilliant. TVD is a teen soap
I haven't watched Burn Notice yet. So this is real easy:
ReplyDeleteWho's your favorite?
ReplyDeleteVoted Buffy since her show to me was the start of all this Vampire mania, and I'm not into Vampire Dairies like I once was, and Burn Notice, just because I love Michael & Fee!!!
ReplyDeleteYou simply stated the truth!!!
ReplyDeleteJust Burn Notice today.
ReplyDeleteIf this was 3 years ago I'd vote TVD but eh.
As much as Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite current shows, I did have to vote Buffy. Overall it's the better show and has a much better message for both women and men whereas I don't think Vampire Diaries can teach you anything about relationships except what NOT to do to your friends, family and lovers.
ReplyDeleteNr. 1 Buffy rules!!!
ReplyDeleteNr. 2 I went with The Pretender (no proper ending - it almost does not hurt). Although Kyle was one of my favorites, On Paper I should love Burn Notice, but never got attached.
Sep, Kyle was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and I know that The Pretender is going to get trounced but I just had to give them my vote.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure but I think it is on DVD. Check Netflix. When I heard the premise just before its first season I thought it was stupid and didn't want to watch it. But I caught a re-run and wound up hooked.
ReplyDeleteDean Winchester. But from Buffy I was talking about Lehane (don't want to spoil it for Pablo).
ReplyDeleteAnother easy choice, yay! Voted Buffy and Burn Notice, two of my favorite shows ever on TV. While those shows were very different kinds, both were a good mix of action, drama, humor and had the same thematics: good vs bad / how it's easy to fall into a dark path / love, friendship, family , that's what is truly important and it's saving us, guys! :D
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, the characters in TVD predate BTVS by 5 yrs.
ReplyDeleteBut the tv series doesn't even pretend they aren't borrowing some plotlines from BTVS
Voted Buffy (how could one not?) and Pretender. Burn Notice was fun, but Pretender will always hold a bit of nostalgia for me. And annoyance, that all we got were a couple of lousy tv films that raised more questions than answers.
ReplyDeleteTough choice! I still love The Vampire Diaries but the show has been really disappointing lately while Buffy never failed to amaze me, so Buffy it was!
ReplyDeletePlus, never watched Burn notice so I voted The Pretender too. My teenage years voting again! And yes I'm nostalgic ;) !
Do I vote for the show about a girl who kicks ass and saves the world, or for the one about a girl whose life revolves about not being able to choose between boyfriends? Decisions, decisions.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and The Pretender for me. How I used to love The Pretender... it's a great show with a so-so "ending". And Miss Parker was awesome, to this day she's still one of my favorite female characters ever.
ReplyDeleteNo vote today. I'm watching TVD but I still haven't seen Buffy yet but I have a feeling I'll like Buffy more than TVD. Don't watch either show in the second poll.
ReplyDeleteAt least the acting in TVD is better than Twilight, but Buffy had my first vampire love..SPIKE. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso not having watched any of those show, will be watching from the sideline.
ReplyDeleteI was rewatching season 3 about a month ago and I thought that it had aged fine haha.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Buffy in a heartbeat, but I agree. When it comes to Buffy, I truly believe the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It was only really great for about 2 years (from the S1 finale to the S3 finale, and even those years had some clunky episodes). The next seasons had a few incredible episodes that did things never seen on TV before, like Hush, The Body and Once More With Feeling, but overall the show got weaker and weaker over the last few seasons. But when it was good, it was so damn good that I understand why it's become such a cult show. It was a remarkable cross (heh) between a really fun fantasy action/adventure show and a poignant coming of age teen drama... plus the famous Joss humor and snark.
ReplyDeleteYou missed the best season of Buffy. BtVS Season 3, is one of the best seasons of tv ever.
ReplyDelete"Best birthday present ever."
ReplyDeleteBuffy, of course! And I didn't watch the Pretender live when it originally aired, but I caught episodes later through TNT I believe in middle/high school, and I really enjoyed it. Such a surprise to see it here in this competition!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like TVD, I had to vote for Buffy. I feel I should make the point, though, that if shippers had been as volatile when Buffy was on the air, Joss Whedon would have had the same issues Julie Plec is having, and no one really knows what kind of impact that would have had on the show.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I am disappointed with TVD of recently, it still had some amazing seasons early on and I still like its characters for the most part. Also, I've never actually watched Buffy, which I am sure made my decision very easy.
ReplyDeleteNo vote on the second one.
Voted for The Vampire Diaries, obviously. Love Buffy too but TVD is my favourite TV show.
ReplyDeleteUgh, Stefan is better than Angel and Damon is better than Spike, and Elena is no chosen one so why would she have to be compared to Buffy? They two very different characters, on the other hand Stefan and Damon and Angel and Spike are very simliar.
ReplyDeleteBuffy <3
ReplyDeleteGrew up watching it and still love it.
I do like TVD...but this past season was AWFUL! The only good thing I can think of was the Klaus/Caroline hookup...but I hate that they were on separate shows the whole season and the travelers storyline was SOOO boring!
At least we got Enzo for some hot eye candy on the show now that the Originals are on a separate series (or killed off completely).
I've heard a lot of other fans not liking the past season...so hopefully the writers will realize they really need to fix things this coming season.
It looks a BtVS marathon is heading my way ;-)
ReplyDeleteBuffy, obviously! Heck, that show should probably win the whole freaking thing! :)
ReplyDeleteWell….anything had better acting than Twilight, lol. Even Electro in TAS-M 2, haha.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely stated, I agree completely:)
ReplyDeleteI've watched all but the last season of TVD, why do you think Damon and Stefan are better than Angel and Spike? I know we all have our own tastes but I just can't quite understand how you think that they're better.
ReplyDeleteLike I said somewhere else in these comments, one of my favourite fictional characters of all time is introduced in season 3 of Buffy. You really should give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :D
ReplyDeleteBetter is subjective because they certainly are not better in my opinion. They are not better characters, better fighters, better vampires or better anything than Angel or Spike. If we break it down to characters and the lore of vampires, Stefan and Damon are actually jokes. Damon especially is a caricature of a vampire. I could list the reasons all day long. I could make a spreadsheet. I could do a poll. In the end it wouldn't matter because your opinion is your own, mine belongs to me. Damon will always be an inept vampire and Stefan will always be a better boyfriend than vampire. Unless he is playing Ripper.
ReplyDeleteis angel hated because they mention it anywhere as a great series
ReplyDeletesorry because DON'T mention it
ReplyDeletethey always mention buffy but never angel
ReplyDelete
