Hey all,
Day seven, unsurpisingly, saw Once Upon a Time annihilate The Office. We also saw another SpoilerTV fan favourite - Orphan Black - defeat Dark Angel.
Our first poll today features the ABC powerhouse through which this site was born. It is, of course, the brilliant LOST, which takes on another Hawaii-filmed show - Hawaii Five-0. In the second poll of the day, Syfy's Defiance takes on Showtime hit Dexter.

ReplyDeleteLost and Dexter. Lost is easily a much better show than Hawaii 5-0 and Dexter had some brilliant early seasons, even though it was disappointing in the last three seasons.

ReplyDeleteFive-0 is good, has great chemistry between the actors and a nice thread that connects a lot of the episodes. But its not Lost. Lost was a very unique story that had Abrams unique stamp of successfully changing the narrative. So Lost, easily.
ReplyDeleteDexter loses a lot of points for how it ended, but its earlier seasons were great. Defiance, well I like the show but nothing about it grabs me and makes me want to rewatch it. So I got to go with Dexter., especially if you ignore the first 3 seasons.
The one and only LOST for me.
ReplyDeleteVoted for LOST and Dexter. Although the finale of Dexter pissed me off a lot, I still voted for it because seasons 1-5 were brilliant. I just forget seasons 6-8 ever happened.

ReplyDeleteLOST like many on this site was how I became involved with DarkUFO and SpoilerTV. Still my favourite show by a mile.
Dexter, despite the wonky last 2 seasons, the early season were fantastic. Funny, Grusome, Emotional and very different. Who thought we'd be rooting for a serial killer for so many years. Great writing and superb acting.
Damn I just realized Round 2 will have Doctor Who vs. The X-Files, that's....that's just cruel.

I really like H50 but Lost was, is and will probably always be my favorite show ever. It was such a huge thing for me that it kind of transcended the whole "tv show experience" with me. So that one will always get my vote regardless of who it is up against.
ReplyDeleteOn the second one it was an easy Dexter because I've never watched Defiance and because Dexter was also one of my favorite for a long time. Despite some misteps (I like to pretend that Season 6 never existed), the show was pure brilliance most of the time and Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are two of my favorite actors.
I thought it was season 8 that everyone tried to pretend didn't exist?
ReplyDeleteNever watched Hawaii or Defiance, don't even know what they are. Watched four seasons of Dexter though never went crazy for it (but I hear that I quit at the right time...).

Lost is my all time favorite show. I've only seen the first 5 episodes of Dexter, they were amazing. I was too busy back then. I plan to start watching the series after Gracepoint. Defiance had a good season 2, hmmm:

ReplyDeleteI voted for Hawaii Five-0. It is my 2nd favorite show airing on network tv at the moment. I love the cast chemistry and in particular, the Steve/Danny banter. IMO, they currently have the best bromance on tv. I also enjoy the way the H50 writers blend personal stories with procedural elements. They know how to strike the correct balance between the two. As for Lost, I tried watching it, but it always felt like Abrams was yanking the audience around and having a big laugh at their expense. I found many of the characters compelling, but the plot felt like a proverbial goose chase. I've never watched Defiance or Dexter.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with Season 8, I actually liked it for the most part. My biggest issue with it is that it doesn't feel like a "final" season. For a show that's been on for 8 years and that was all about the journey of the main character and that had that season planned as the last for so long, I would have liked to see something more final oriented in there. For instance, you watch Lost Season 6 and the whole thing has a very "finality" element mescled in there. That's what I thought was missing from Dexter Season 8 but as an individual season, I liked it quite a lot and liked its themes.

ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way about H50-Macdanno bromance takes this show to a whole another level.I'm in awe of the actors who have such brilliant on and off-screen chemistry with each other!

ReplyDeleteI liked the few episodes I've seen of H50 (I remember the original!) but LOST got me through many a overnight shifts. We used to have potlucks each week and everyone would gather in the conference room to watch it and stuff our faces on our lunch breaks. **sigh** I miss that show.

Even though I think LOST is probably the better show and deserves the win (only seen the first two seasons, so can't say for sure), I still voted for Hawaii Five-0 because I think that show is really fun to watch and deserves more love than it gets.

ReplyDeleteHawaii 5-O and Defiance for me today, mostly because I didn't like LOST and I never watched Dexter. I am pretty sure it is not for me.
ReplyDeleteLost on the 1st (I only saw a few episodes, but what I saw was way better than H50); never watched Dexter or Defiance, so nothing there.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen three seasons of Lost so far but I don't watch Hawaii 5-0, so my vote goes to Lost; Don't watch either show on the second poll but I plan on watching Dexter at some point.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to vote for Hawaii because I have such a soft spot for that show but in the end I don't think it even stands in the same category as Lost. I love Hawaii but Lost was so incredible, from the first episode with the place crash through every twist and turn. I had so many favorite characters on that show I would need two hands to count them all, I still follow most of them on other shows (it's almost a full time occupation, Lost alums are everywhere including Hawaii :)
