The SpoilerTV Cancellation Predictor Competition *Submissions Closed*
12 Sept 2014
SpoilerTV ArticleUpdate: 12th September Submissions are now closed: See the Table here.
Hey All,
We thought we'd try something a little different this season and run a little competition. It's very simple and free to enter and we hope to have a little prize to the winner (to be announced later).
Basically we're asking you to predict all the shows that you think will be cancelled. For each correct prediction, you get a point, incorrect ones you lose a point. The person with the most points at the end of the season will be crowned the winner.
As shows get cancelled we'll update and post a league table of the current standings.
NOTES:
1) In the event of a tie the form below has a tie-breaker question.
2) You can only submit once. If you try to cheat and submit multiple times ALL your submissions will be deleted.
3) Submissions will be closed on Friday, 12th September 2014
4) We're doing this just for some of the new broadcast shows.
Simply fill out the Form below to enter. Also feel free to let us know your picks in the comments below.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate in asking.

So as I understand it each correct answer gets you a point, right? Then do incorrect answers make you lose a point? If not someone could just select all the shows on the list and get the maximum amount of points.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I never have much luck in predicting what gets renewed/ cancelled , but gave it go.
ReplyDeleteYep, exactly. Incorrect selections you will lose a point.
ReplyDeleteI went for: A to Z, Agent Carter, Backstrom, Bad Judge, Battle Creek, Cristela, CSI: Cyber, Empire, Fresh Off The Boat, iZombie, Jane the Virgin, Manhattan Love Story, Marry Me, Members Only, Mr. Robinson, Mulaney, Selfie, State of Affairs, The McCarthys, The Mysteries of Laura, The Odd Couple,
ReplyDeleteUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Weird Loners.
This could be fun.
Just submitted mine. This should be fun.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cool idea! I had almost everything cancelled but it's kind of the safe bet! I am sure I was too pessimistic in some of those particularly on the ABC and NBC front but we shall see.
ReplyDeleteReally, Bradley?! Agent Carter?! Dude, If It's ANYTHING Like The Marvel One-Off Short Film Featured On The Iron Man 3 DVD, It'll Be AMAZING!!! So, At This Point, Seeing How Crazy Popular Marvel Films & TV Shows Are, I Doubt It'll Be Canceled...But Then Again, You Never Know ;)
ReplyDeletePeople said that SHIELD would do really well, and it didn't do THAT well. I reckon Agent Carter's gonna get cancelled.
ReplyDeleteShield started out huge and then the ratings fell down. Also the show isn't even that popular. People need to realize tv and movies are different things.
ReplyDeleteI chose more than half of the tv shows because usually 2/3 of the new shows get canceled.
ReplyDeleteI think the first show that will be canceled is The Mysteries of Laura.
I think Agent Carter will pull Ok numbers (lower than Shield though) but I suspect Marvel will prefer to try a different type of thing next year in that hiatus-bridge kind of role. Their universe is huge so they have tones of potential to put there.
ReplyDeleteI also loved the one shot by the way, I am looking forward to the series.
I also voted for Laura.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I think I only had 4 or 5 shows that didn't get cancelled lol, I don't have much faith in the new shows this year.
ReplyDeleteI think Netflix got all the best ideas for Marvel tv shows.
ReplyDeleteI think ABC and Fox will probably cancel just about all their shows, lol. Went with Secrets and Lies as the first one.
ReplyDeleteSecrets and Lies is a Spring show that will take over How to Get Away with Murder after Scandal once that show concludes its 16 episode order. It has virtually no shot at being the first cancellation.
ReplyDeleteShows why I general stick to the UK side of things round here ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't even remember what shows I picked. *lol*
ReplyDeleteThere are only a handful of shows i'm looking forward to this season, trying to trim down to Watchlist a little bit.
Only a few more and it would be a complete freshman list... Mission Control (NBC), One Big Happy (NBC), Bordertown (FOX), Wayward Pines (FOX), Zoo (CBS - though this is earmarked for summer), A.D. (NBC), Aquarius (NBC), The Slap (NBC - though I believe this is strictly a miniseries), American Crime (ABC), Last Man On Earth (FOX), Heroes Reborn (NBC), Shades of Blue (NBC - though I believe this is for 14/15 season), Astronaut's Wives Club (ABC)
ReplyDeleteCancelled: Allegiance, Bad Judge, Black-ish, Cristela, Forever, Fresh off the Baot, Galavant, Jane the Virgin, Manhattan Love Story, Members Only, Mr Robinson, Mulaney, Odyssey, Scorpion, Secretes and Lies, State of Affairs, McCarthys, Mysteries of Laura, Messengers, Whispers, Unbreakable Kimmy, Weird Loners
ReplyDeleteCancelled first: Forever and Mysteries of Laura
I think it will be OK assuming they want it to be more than just one season. Even if the numbers aren't great in the end Marvel gets what Marvel wants and I imagine if it really wanted Agent Carter to continue it will.
ReplyDeleteOk, I submitted my choices this is going to be fun, in my humble opinion, I got this:)
ReplyDeleteMarvel isn't an almighty authority lol. If the ratings are bad ABC is going to cancel it. ABC is still a business.
ReplyDeletethe problem is that I can't remember what half of thse are about. Is there a spreadsheet somewhere with the descriptions?
ReplyDeleteI think The Mysteries of Laura might get cannceled first :/
ReplyDeleteForever, Laura, Stalker, Crystela, Selfie, Mulaney: my prediction for first cancellations.
ReplyDeleteVoted for 26 shows........
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm in a bad mood lol.
what? Scandal has 16 episodes this season? -_-
ReplyDeleteI am usually pretty good at keeping track of that sort of thing but this year all the midseason NBC stuff is a big question mark for me, I don't remember what they are about! I doubt that's a good sign though so I sent the to cancel directly, except for Allegiance, which could do well in the post blacklist slot on thursday
ReplyDeleteNo, Scandal has 22 episodes. GA presumably has the usual 24 (non confirmed). Murder has between 16 and 18 episodes and will be replaced afterwards by Secrets and Lies. Not sure how it will work with the split schedule though.
ReplyDeleteThey will probably do:
Fall: GA/Scandal/Murder (11 episodes each)
January & February: Filler
Late Winter (starting 26/02): GA/Scandal/Murder (4 episodes each)
Spring (starting 26/03): GA/Scandal/Secrets and Lies. GA probably gets a two hour finale leading to the Secrets and Lies finale while Scandal wraps the previous week. Secrets and Lies would have 8 episodes in this scenario - the same as Scandal's inaugural week.
I realize it's very odd to have Murder come back just for 4 episodes but assuming they will keep the split season treatment (which they should since it did wonders for the shows last season) I do not know what else they can do.
Sundays is even a worst mess. I actually have no idea how to schedule those with all the special events that are there and with the fact that Resurrection has an "odd" episode order in the sense that it's higher than OUAT and Revenge's first half but lower than a full season.
No, How To Get Away With Murder does. Scandal has a regular season this year,
ReplyDeleteHow To Get Away is capped at 15 eps, while 10 eps of Secrets & Lies have been ordered. I am also curious as to how they'll work the split-seasons this year! Re: Sundays, Resurrection has 13 eps ordered initially, though I imagine there will be the option to extend (likely they did with Scandal's S2). I imagine they'll try to put Members Only on Sundays, as I can't see where else its 13 episode order could fit (with compatible programmes). What are your scheduling thoughts for ABC's midseason shows omabin? You seem to have a good instinct on these things!
ReplyDeleteSorry, read too fast.
ReplyDeleteI think Murder will have a big audience so can't they make it air alone? So that they let both GA and Scandal come back in March?
No problem. Read my comment below answering splendidtom about Sundays, you will realize the horrible mess there is in there. It's not actual ABC's fault, they are trying to do right by the shows by airing them in split seasons but the schedule that implies is beyond awful.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the idea of Murder airing alone because it will still be a freashman show airing at 10pm and likely out of very weak timeslot fillers that ABC would find for that period (remember The Taste/The Assets last year?). I think all three will be back on 26/02 and that Shonda will just prepare a 11 episode arc for Murder + a final 4 episode arc. She can do something like that imo.
Loved the Idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm betting in some dark horses though, to me Forever, A to Z and Selfie will persevere!
For first cancellation, though I think Jane will be CW's first, the network usually wait some four weeks before killing it.
ABC, though, LOVES to jump the gun. So it has to be them. I'd bet in almost every drama, but, they all start a little late. So, betting in Black-ish, ifit goes the stereotypical road, will lose viewers in a heartbeat, and being in such a "prime" time" slot, if doesn't retain at least 70%, will probably be dead t the third week.
ABC with all of its serials is in a tough position because they have a constant need for fresh product, which increases the chances for disaster. With Castle being only thing close to a procedural, there is zero repeat value. Look what happened with BoP (a rare procedural with decent ratings) - the 10 p.m. Tuesday slot was a bomb 3x over.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun...love this idea :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't remember all of the ones I thought would be cancelled but I think I went with 24 shows total - apparently I'm not as optimistic about the new shows as I thought I was, especially with the Comedies.
Tie breaker question though was Mysteries of Laura - not sure that show is going to last more than a few episodes!
Well yes a business owned by Disney, just like Marvel. Marvel is Disney's cash cow right now. I believe if Marvel wants a second season, they'll get it. All of the tv series are for support the Marvel Cinematic Universe, off of which Disney is getting Midas rich.
ReplyDeletePlus Marvel has been taking a beating in social media, for it's lack of female heroes. All that being said though, i believe that Marvel is only planning this as a limited series. With something else next year. But if it does real well, it will be back.
The only mystery about this show is why Debra Messing agreed to do it.

ReplyDeleteI had access to the screener for the show and I still didn't watch it because it sounded so boring.
ReplyDeleteMost of them should be in 2014 pilot spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AsWGamNXh2iwdHZuWkR1S1JXbnFwWnl5cnVCUEpLeGc&range=A1%3AC270&output=html
ReplyDeleteWell that information is interesting because according to tvline (http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/05/abc-upfronts-2014-news-and-scoops-about.html) it will be 15-16 episode season. The same link also confirms that American Crime will take over Resurrection so it's pretty much guaranteed that it will be OUAT/American Crime/Revenge at some point. I think it won't be male skewing at all IMO, so I think Sundays is better for it (I don't see the show succeeding anyway, but well).
ReplyDeleteHowever, assuming you are right about Resurrection being 13 episodes only, it would actually make things easier since it can air along with Revenge in those 3 regular pre-Oscar Sundays that were free:
- 28/09 - OUAT 4x01, Resurrection 2x01, Revenge 4x01
- ...
-16/11 - OUAT 4x08, Resurrection 2x08, Revenge 4x08
- 23/22: American Music Awards
-30/11: There is the Hallmark Hall of Fame Movie from 9 to 10. They can
air OUAT at 8 though like they did last year and I suspect they will. So
it's OUAT 4x09
- 07/12: OUAT 4X10, Resurrection 2x09, Revenge 4x09
- 12/12: OUAT 4x11, Resurrection 2x10, Revenge 4x10
- 21/12: Holiday Programming
- 28/12: Holiday Programming
- 04/01: Regular Sunday - they could air Revenge and Resurrection but the
next 4 weeks are a bloodbath for programming so they should avoid it
here
- 11/01: Golden Globes - unwise to air dramas
- 18/01: NCF Championship Game: very unwise to air dramas
- 25/01: Grammy Awards + Pro Bowl - extremely unwise to air dramas
- 01/02: Super Bowl - virtually impossible to air dramas
- 08/02: Galavant 1x01, Galavant 1x02, Resurection 2x11, Revenge 4x11
- 15/02: Galavant 1x03, Galavant 1x04, Resurection 2x12, Revenge 4x12
- 22/02: Galavant 1x05, Galavant 1x06, Resurection 2x13, Revenge 4x13
- 01/03: Oscars
- 08/03: OUAT 4x12, American Crime 1x01, Revenge 4x14
- 15/03: OUAT 4x13, American Crime 1x02, Revenge 4x15
- 22/03: OUAT 4x14, American Crime 1x03, Revenge 4x16
- 29/03: OUAT 4x15, American Crime 1x04, Revenge 4x17
- 05/04: OUAT 4x16, American Crime 1x05, Revenge 4x18
- 12/04: OUAT 4x17, American Crime 1x06, Revenge 4x19
-
19/04: Easter Sunday. They aired OUAT here last year but it hit a
series low and it was by far the worst result of 3B so it's ill-advised... However, I don't see any other solution so OUAT 4x18
- 26/04: OUAT 4x19, American Crime 1x07, Revenge 4x20
- 03/05: OUAT 4x20, American Crime 1x08, Revenge 4x21
- 10/05: OUAT 4x21, OUAT 4x22, Revenge 4x22
- 17/05: Billboard Music Awards
If Galavant is to air more than 6 episodes then I don't know where to put them...
Well ABC, Marvel and Disney are the same now.
ReplyDeleteSubmitted mine, I think I chose 18 to 20 shows.
ReplyDeleteBTW, what happens if there is a tie even after the tie-breaker question, lol?
Money.
ReplyDeleteWell, CW shows air premiere in October as compared to the other networks, so I doubt JtV will b the first.
ReplyDeleteSecrets and Lies has a 10-episode order.
ReplyDeleteAlmost everything but A to Z, Stalker, How to get away with murder, Flash, State of Affairs.
ReplyDeleteI guess we tie, no?
ReplyDeleteI also included the ones that I wanted to get canned...lol
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about most of them.
ReplyDeleteI've voted for Cristela, Fresh Off the Boat (What is this?), Manhatten Love Story, Selfie (which i like but the time slot made me click the button), and sadly The Whisper on ABC because i think it will get a horrible midseason place on the schedule.
On CBS i have no idea. I voted for The Odd Couple because midseason Comedys almost never get renewed.
CW will cancel Jane the Virgin and one midseason show but i don't know which one so i didn't vote for any of the other shows :)
Mulaney and Weird Loners will be cancelled on FOX. I don't know which Dramas i picked lol
NBC: Bad Judge, Odyssey, Mysteries of Laura (Which will be the first cancelled)
Thanks, this was not easy. i'm curious to see who will win this
ReplyDeleteNo. Disney owns Marvel and ABC and if a show isn't generating profit they are going to cancel it anyway. TV and movies are different things.
ReplyDeleteI know that, and when did I say that TV and movies aren't different.
ReplyDeleteMy point was that since the show is an inhouse production, it might have lower expectations for a renewal.
Laura was my choice. I was conservative because I can never tell what will make it and what wont.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea where they will place those additional episodes then. The only solution would be to have the Shonda night come back a week earlier, have Scandal finish of a week earlier than planned and then go GA/Secrets and Lies/ Secrets and Lies for the last two weeks of May sweeps but I don't particularly like that arrangement. What do you think they will do?
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of new shows! I'm not sure which will be cancelled first, but I suspect that it will probably be something on NBC. Based on precedent, I'm pretty sure it won't be a CW show!
ReplyDeleteI really have no idea what ABC plans on doing with all those extra midseason dramas. They have absolutely no space for Members Only, Secrets & Lies and Astronauts Wives Club.
ReplyDeleteI was actually hoping that they'd but The Whispers on Sundays after Resurrection ends, it would have made a better fit compared to American Crime,
They're trying to capitalize on the momentum of The Good Wife (it seems like they're going for a similar story type here, not saying it can match the quality of TGW though)... Unless it tanks immediately, I could see other shows cancelled first.
ReplyDeleteSecrets and Lies have room, just not for those 10 episodes. There are two too many. The Whispers I feel should go to Tuesdays to pair with Shield period, I don't think it should pair with the female skewing dramas on Sunday and against the male skewing dramas that air on cable at that night. I don't believe in American Crime at all though, I think that one will flop, so I would rather have seen them put Members Only on Sundays after Resurrection.
ReplyDeleteMembers Only and Wives Club will probably be on Thursdays during the Shonda-hiatus, that's my guess.
Out of my list the only one i hope doesn't get cancelled is Forever
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny when people choose a CW show because the CW at least air four episodes before deciding the fate of a show and they have late premiers. I think it's going to be NBC (Mysteries of Laura) or ABC ().
ReplyDeleteWayward Pines and Heroes Reborn, are suppose to be single season "limited" series.
ReplyDeleteI predict The Mysteries of Laura (NBC) will be the first to go. The rest of the new series, on my deadpool list:
ReplyDeleteABC: Forever, How to Get Away With Murder, Members Only, Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, Secrets and Lies, Selfie, Cristala, and sadly The Whispers.
CBS: Madam Secretary and Scorpion (though this one looks good).
CW: Jane the Virgin and iZombie (i hope not).
FOX: Mulaney and Weird Loners.
NBC: A to Z, Bad Judge, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Mr. Robinson.
Its hard to predict midseason shows because you have no idea what timeslot they will be getting.
ReplyDeleteThis was fun! I already forgot which ones I picked. There were around 20. I picked Bad Judge as the 1st to go b/c my guess is the 1st cancelled show will come from NBC or ABC.
ReplyDeleteNCIS: New Orleans (first) and CSI Cyber
ReplyDeleteI find it very unlikely that Murder is cancelled. Why do you think so?
ReplyDeleteI agree. ABC and NBC are the most likely but I would also add in CBS (Madam Secretary) and FOX (Red Band Society). Both are also easy to replace which is a big factor in these (CBS can just push everything back an hour and put reruns at 10pm since there are overuns most weeks anyway and FOX can simply double up on Hell's Kitchen).
ReplyDeleteI thought that was, what the majority of the internet buzz was saying. There is so much coming out, maybe i mixed it up with another series.
ReplyDeleteI picked 9 renewals, guess I'm a natural pessimistic.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reposting this Andy. Can't believe I missed this.
ReplyDeleteNo worries :)
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree Cyber will be canceled, I highly doubt NCIS New Orleans will get the axe. It has the biggest lead-in I can think of.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't try it, you don't know if it is boring. I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI watched the promo and it felt like a snooze fest.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Perception? Gotta wait till February to know if it's cancelled? :(
ReplyDelete@Gaia Di Lorenzo Perception is not a new show :)
ReplyDeleteVoted for just 26 shows. Not a lot, is it?
ReplyDeleteI saw a sample and couldn't even get through 10 minutes.. Phew!!! This one smells... but sadly it isn;t the the worst!
ReplyDeleteLet's cancelling begin.
ReplyDeleteI basically voted for all Fox shows (except for Backstrom and Gotham) at sitcoms.
ReplyDelete
