ABC's The Goldbergs is lining up its season two guest cast. Paul Sorvino, Rob Huebel and Dan Bakkedahl have joined the 1980s-set comedy inspired by the life of showrunner Adam F. Goldberg, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Sorvino (Goodfellas, Law & Order) is set to portray Murray's (Jeff Garlin) father Pop-Pop. The character is based on Goldberg's grandfather, Ben, and described as a cranky, put-upon curmudgeon who has been emotionally unavailable to his children for their entire lives. Pop-Pop's life has been riddled with disappointment and regret, most notably refusing to be an original investor in 7-Up because "no one drinks clear soda."
Huebel (Childrens Hospital) will play John Calabasas, a smooth-talking talent scout who suckers naive wannabe models into forking over cash for headshots and catwalk lessons. The character is based on the scammers who trolled the malls in the '80s.
Bakkedahl (Legit, Veep) is set as Mr. Woodburn, the easily excitable and argumentative middle-school science teacher who isn't afraid to engage in a debate with his students.
