With the CW‘s two freshman series, The Flash and Jane the Virgin, garnering some of the best reviews for new series this fall, the network is already looking forward to the second part of the season, ordering three additional scripts from each of the two shows. The vote of confidence comes two weeks before the Oct. 7 debut of The Flash and three weeks ahead of the series premiere of Jane the Virgin, whose star Gina Rodriguez is touted to be one of this season’s breakouts.
Giving any type of order to new broadcast series several weeks before their debut is unusual and comes after both The Flash and Jane had delivered a couple of more episodes, with the CW executives said to be very pleased with that they have seen.

Wise decision for The Flash but I really don't know about Jane... I want it to work but I don't think a lot of people will even be giving it a chance.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they do this last year with Reign, The Originals, and The Tomorrow People? Well look what happened to TTP... Anyways, still looking forward to both of these shows and hoping they do well in the ratings.
ReplyDeleteExactly and they've done it for other shows too.
ReplyDeleteNot a wise decision at all.
ReplyDeleteSorry but both shows could proove to be a complete failure creatively or rating-wise.
Just because everyone here naively is into The Flash without having seen it that doesen't justify anything
and for f**s sake, we still don't have a promo poster for TO and are already giving out script orders! -,-
The originals and The tomorrow people had already aired but yes, basically it's the same move they did last year, as usual good reviews and expectation dont mean anything til the ratings come in.
ReplyDeleteI watched The Flash pilot screener and found it pretty underwhelming.
ReplyDeletethe script orders came in early november.
ReplyDeleteBoth had already aired, Reign on the other hand hasn't
But Reign seesm to be the networks sheltered baby
At least they're only ordering scripts so even if the shows fail it wont be that much of a waste.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense tbh. The Flash was great and though I've not seen JtV nor am I expecting much from it, it may fit in well on the CW.
ReplyDeleteThe pilot looks too much like Smallville in my opinion, I hope they go on a different direction.
ReplyDeletesame, it wasn't terrible but FAR beyond my expectations. Comparing it to any CW pilot of a semi-successful show it stays FAR behind,
ReplyDeleteThe FX are good, I'll give them that
But the lead is fairly annoying, the arc was pretty thin (yeah, great..metahumans...weatherwizard....great that was literally it. The twist at the end was okay though)
I could see this show fail the way the original did
Never watched Smallville.
ReplyDeleteyou know...if the scripts are ordered the episodes WILL come.
ReplyDeleteTrust me on that. It' s like a nicer way of pre-stating that both will be getting a full season
Yeah, I found the "fighting the evil metahumans created by the storm cloud" a little too convenient. And I really do wish they had cast someone other than Grant Gustin.
ReplyDeletewas it? Personally I'd say it was a luke-warm mix of Amazing Sh*tman and the flash (the cheesy 90s series).
ReplyDeleteThe lead is acting WAY too quirky (not a part of Barrys character traits but quirky seems to be all the rage now just look at Felicity), the plot is thin and SCREAMS Smallville and...well...it looks and feels like a movie that is a.) not DC and b.) just hurt me
If you have to copy a films style why not go for a Marvel film? Not FOXs sh*tty take on an iconic hero
I hate the hipsterization (not to be mistaken with Nolanization, both are pretentious though) of superheroes
not necessarily "Emily Owens m.d" also got a three scripts order a couple years ago and later didnt even get a back nine order.
ReplyDeleteAnyway you may be right but that's goig to backfire on them agains as it did with Emili Owens.
It did? I actually forgot.
ReplyDeleteBut last year Reign (how? HOW?), TO and TTP were picked up after having additional scripts ordered
I didn't watch Smallville and I don't read any of the comics. I really enjoyed it, and if others don't then that's their opinion.
ReplyDeleteI have really high hopes for Jane the Virgin. Looks very funny and cute. I always say this but I'll say it again: I just hope it can fill some of the void left behind by Ugly Betty, and I hope it's as outrageous and over-the-top. The Flash... Eh. I will give it a shot, but as hard as I try I just can't care all that much about it. Superhero fatigue perhaps. Although I have a feeling it could end up being the next Smallville or Supernatural and run a decade (and past its expiration) so I have years to catch up with that, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI am much more intrigued by The CW's midseason offerings (iZombie and The Messengers) and even though they won't be able to order for episodes for the first season, I hope The CW will show their approval by giving the both of them massive marketing campaigns (preferably starting before the new year).
I think The Flash will do okay. I think a lot of Arrow fans will watch it and it could pick up some new viewers as well since none of the characters were really regulars on Arrow (Barry appeared in one episode, and Caitlin/Cisco also appeared in one episode later on) and footage from Barry being hit by the storm and all on Arrow was footage used in the pilot. It's not like a regular is leaving Arrow to move over to the spin-off - it's basically all new characters.
ReplyDeleteDont ask me about "Reign" because I dont see anything special about that show lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news for both shows, especially JtV. I hope people take the time to check that show out as I think they will be really surprised
ReplyDeleteI've seen the pilot for the flash it was really good. Can't wait to see where they take us.
ReplyDeleteIt's only three more scripts, not an entire back order. It's not like the CW has tons of shows in the hopper ready to move into place if they fail. JTV is unusual it could fail massively, but it is getting good reviews, so why not give it a little breathing room. The Flash is also getting good reviews and has carry over from Arrow. This isn't like renewing Glee for 2 season just before it tanked or anything.
ReplyDeleteThat trophy goes to Beauty and the Beast, which had rating far worse than Reign. I don't watch Reign, but BATB is really their sheltered baby.
ReplyDeleteIt must be doing well on some medium as they are still making it.....
ReplyDeletebarry was on 2 episodes of arrow
ReplyDeleteThe character was more on the show to introduce the Flash concept versus actually being a character.
ReplyDeleteI will gine JTV a chance i hope people does to. It seems like a funny show. The Flash. I'm not even surprised
ReplyDeleteAnd?
ReplyDeleteReign has been picked up for a full season while beauty and the beast merely got a half season.
ReplyDeletesara had it wrong
ReplyDeleteThey are getting a little bit confident regarding JtV.Let it premiere 1st to see whether it survives 13 episodes in the first place.Super happy about the flash though!
ReplyDeleteim still mourning that show :(
ReplyDeleteThey do have plenty of shows in the wings:HoD,BatB,WLIIA,Messengers,IZombie
ReplyDeleteNot always.Life Unexpected in season two had two or three more scripts ordered but the extra episodes weren't orderd.CW dosent have room on the schedule for everything but BatB,HoD,Messengers,IZombie to have full season either with IZombie,Messengers,WL,BatB,HoD waiting.
ReplyDeleteI saw the leaked pilot of The Flash and I agree with the Smallville comparison, there's one character that's so close the Smallville Lex he could almost be him.
ReplyDeleteWow such hate for The Flash just bc all of you saw the pilot and half of you don't like it. Big deal it's just a freaking pilot, All pilots do poorly and eventually the shows pick up that why it's called a season for a reason. TV shows aren't like movies where they can fit everything in a 2 hr format.
ReplyDeleteSecondly no one is forcing you to watch The Flash and you not tuning in won't matter because they are other DC Comics die hard fans who would tune in and make the show a success.
You mean Apokolips (I think that's the right spelling).
ReplyDeleteSort of. To be fair it was the whole point of his being on the show.
ReplyDeleteWait no you're referring to Darkseid. Sorry 'bout that.
ReplyDeleteIts a series based off a comic book, its not going to be real world.
ReplyDeleteWas it...To him yes, to you no, but why do they have to go with a dark over tone style? it is the CW they have a demo and if Smallvilles numbers were anything to go by that's what they are targeting with the flash. Give it a chance if you don't like it just don't watch it, but from most of the reviews and fan comments The Flash more than likely have the numbers.
ReplyDeleteI never said anything about "real world".
