Semi excited for the Flash, the pilot was a lukewarm experience. Not the worst on television there is but surely something that fans of "The Amazing Spiderman" would enjoy, in style and quirkiness The Flashs creative team took a lot out TASMs book. The issue is I despised TASM for exactly that art style. Overly colour-ish but still attempting to act as deep as the Nolanized DC universe. Didn't work for me. Grant Gustin is far from fit for the role but luckily the rest of the cast is very well up to the job. I'm just sad that there will be a huge Flash/KillerFrost shipperbase (it will come, believe me....)
And despite the whole product making me feel uncomfortable during the pilot I have to admit that the visuals were DAMN amazing for a CW show, I'm sure DC invested something into that as well.
Also I'm certainly watching because while the style and lead may not be my cup of tea the guest cast is!
Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Robert Knepper, Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards (just don't push the Barry ship) and hopefully John Barrowman will surely get me watching
This show isn't nolanized or super dark (which is only a thing if you're referring to realism) since a) everything we saw in the pilot, know about Barry Allen and have heard from the producers that it's relatively light-hearted; b) DC has been pretty dark since the 80's (i.e. Mia Dearden HIV, Roy Harper heroin arm loss, Green Arrow kiling at least 17 people and struggling with it, Flash in one comic breaking Zoom's neck, or in Flashpoint when his mom was killed by Zoom, Jason Todd being beaten to death by the Joker and Barbara Gorden being paralyzed again by the Joker.) All those things except for the flashpoint one, preceded Nolan Mac. DC's just pretty dark at times.
It's light in tone but dark in terms of the backstory and broodiness (that emotional roof scene with Oliver?). Oh, I know that DC is dark, I just don't like pretentiously dark (wich is what I tend to call nolanization). DC is obscurely dark, it has dramatic arcs and an obscure artstyle, they don't shy away from showing THAT they're comics. Meanwhile Nolanized movies and shows are so grounded they pretend to be an allegory for something way bigger.
The Flash isn't nolanized, it's the opposite....problem is I just couldn't connect to the pilot due to my deep rooted hate for The Amazing Turdman (wich we all can agree as a similar tone as the Flash does)
Sort of they're both light and serious, besides that I'd say they're pretty different. Though plot wise besides both losing a relative and gaining powers they're really different.
Lol, you just described so many superheroes. I like the enthuthsiasm, the guy has super speed that can run faster than light, he should be excited. It's not like he's not aware of the responsibility (since he clearly is). Plus he's pretty happy go lucky comic wise. The skinny thing and brown hair is different though.
Not really, let's go with the most popular ones: Bruce Banner, Wolverine, Thor, Superman, Tony Stark, Batman, Captain America. None of these guys is quirky in the same way Barry was on Arrow. None of them jumps from object to object and enthusiastically rambles down some fake science crap.
Actually Spiderman isn't quirky either, he isn't introverted but socially awkward.
Barry comes off like the one kid in class you would really like to smack, annoying, humble-bragging about being so smart etc.
Just not my bread and butter, I like my heroes humble and aware of their short comings.
this incarnation of Barry is certainly one of those people I rather root against
There already is a Barry/Caitlin shipper club. "Yeah, the show hasn't even premiered yet and the most we've seen is one episode, but, like, Iris isn't doing it for us and god forbid if we don't obsessively ship the hero with some female in his immediate vicinity 5 minutes into the show, soooo... BARRY/CAITLIN FTW!!!!!!!!111" God forbid someone watch the actual show before they start shipping everything that moves together.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
waiting for my TO/Arrow promo material >:(

Tom Cavanagh is pretty awesome in his role btw!
For some reason I didn't find him that attractive on Glee. Now? Hello!! :)

ReplyDelete- A quirky, brilliant, smart, skinny, brownhaired, slim faced, genius as a protagonist that can't hold his enthusiasm when using his powers
ReplyDeleteI just don't like that kind of hero, I just hope that Barry doesen't end up like the same kind of jerk Peter became

Wow, I love Caitlin's outfit, she looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIs the guy with the police badge Eddie Thawne?
Maybe because his character there was a nasty piece of work there, as opposed to the adorable Barry.
