Michael Green is a producer on TV shows including Gotham, American Gods, Smallville, and Heroes, writer on Smallville, Heroes, Gotham, and films such as Green Lantern and the upcoming Flash. So, you know, he has form.
He also worked with Mike Johnson on the New 52 reboot of Supergirl.
Well, we understand Green is now taking that a little further. Bleeding Cool has been reliably informed by a comics/Hollywood contact that DC Comics is currently actively pitching Supergirl as a TV series, and Green is attached.

A bit too soon if you ask me. Smallville isn't too far ago.. I think it could only work if they got Laura Vandervoort again. Expand the mythology. But then, you will get the fans begging for a Tom Welling appearance and that stuff..
ReplyDeleteWell interesting news, I'm for Laura.
ReplyDeleteSupergirl is my favorite characther of the entire DC universe. Of course that start a tv show without Superman seems wrong. I hope it is something like Avengers/SHIELD. That way it can be part of something greater. Just kara without the "S" doesn't seem right. Although I love Smallville, but they had alot of backstory.
ReplyDeleteit honestly would only work if it was laura vandervoort
ReplyDeleteThe CW needs to pick this up and sign Claire ( Rebekah Mikaelson ) Holt for the role ASAP !!!
ReplyDeleteEh...well....Arrow is entering its third season without Justin Hartley. Green Arrow was a bigger part of Smallville than Kara Kent
ReplyDeleteAlso this will go the Nolanized way like every other humor-less DC show -,-
Sadly Laura is contracted to her show "Bitten" about Elena Michaels, the werewolf so it's going to be another actress if this goes to series I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteHmmm! Don't know! Of course it depends on the plot and cast. I didn't belive I would be that much into Arrow but they really made me want more and more.
ReplyDeleteBut Female centric hero shows are really difficult to do. The premise and cast need to be really strong, like it was with Charmed, Buffy, Xena. Yes Supergirl is a beloved character but her story without Superman would seem incomplete.
I would prefer WWomen but that is just me.
That would be awesome!!! She is an interesting character.
ReplyDeleteYes we need a woman super hero on Tv we got The Flash coming and we have Arrow I don't think Laura Vandervoot can do it since she on Bitten and they gave it a second season I pick Allison Scagetti who played Cauldia on Warehouse 13 or Anna Paquin who played Sookie on True Blood just want her back on screen or Sarah Michelle Gellar Maggie Grace or Bethany Joy Lenz
ReplyDeleteSupergirl? Could they have picked a character that is more bland?
ReplyDeleteand let's not forget that DC is effectively cutting all its ties to the 'old' era...aka. the one that still dared to put in some jokey conversations and didn't turn down the saturation in its shots.
ReplyDeleteGreen Arrow is a character that usually pulls jokes every minute and is utterly sarcastic while Superman is an optimist that always has a smile on his face. Stephen Amell and Henry Cavill both portray the same character: Bruce Wayne.
God I hate the Nolanization of DC
Shae? is that you? :D
ReplyDeleteif not: I totally agree
Laura is busy. Plus the current DC series like Arrow ignore Smallville. It's been stated, that the current DC tv series, are in their own combined universe. Separate from Smallville and the movies.
ReplyDeleteI said I thought ;). Smallville went on for 10 seasons and I remember Laura Vandervoort much better than Justin Hartley. I like him, but I felt that Kara made a bigger impact than Oliver. But then, after having another thought about it, it can work if they find a good actress who really embodies Kara. I was sold after watching Stephen for one episode whereas Justin's Oliver took a few episodes or maybe even one season to grow on me..
ReplyDeleteThis would probably be a good project for Skyler Samuels.
ReplyDeletesupergirl in the 31st century would be awesome
ReplyDeleteYeah no Oliver Queen isn't Bruce Wayne. Not in Arrow. Plus his entire character arc is about him becoming Green Arrow. Not just a killer. Not just the hood. He isn't Bruce Wayne because he's killed, he's not a loner (yes despite having the Batfamily he is still and will always be a loner),and he's a philander. DC's been pretty dark since the 90's comic wise. (For example Mia Dearden the second speedy had HIV) TV and films are just catching up. The realism yeah that was nolan inspired, but darkness that's been there for a while.
ReplyDeleteActually she can play despite she is contracted to Bitten. Arrow and Flash are filmed and Canada and so is Bitten and when she is done filming Bitten she can film 13 episodes of the season for Super girl before the back 9 is issued if done well with ratings.
ReplyDeleteLaura can commit to Super Girl. Bc Arrow and The Flash are both filmed in Canada and she won't have problems filming seeing as her schedule revolves around Bitten.
ReplyDeleteIf Daniel Gillies can film The Originals and Saving Hope so can Laura lol
I totally agree. But Nolan had such a huge impact in the comic book movies that some people still think anything that is dark and serious is a Nolan rip off.
ReplyDeleteOliver Queen and Bruce Wayne are better different if you compare the show and the movies. Also Arrow has plenty of funny moments (most of the time it's Felicity). But I guess some people want every superhero to be a comedian.
What is supergirl?
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have a Suicide Squad show.
ReplyDeleteEnough is enough with all these comics turning into series.
ReplyDeleteI can't see it tbh.
ReplyDeleteWill this be connected to the Arrow/Flash-verse?
ReplyDeleteLol yeah I don't get why everyone just assumes Nolan brought darkness to comic books, or why it always needs to be happy and rainbow filled all the time.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I can see it! Please let it be on The CW! We can't get Superman? Well, we'll get the female counterpart... Actually is an awesome idea.
ReplyDeleteNow all we need is a Green Lantern show(We have at least three characters, without counting Red Lantern). and that Amazon series finally finding it's way...
We can have a Justice League every week! With characters crossing over to other shows! Maybe pull a Nighwing or Batman Beyond show in wich Bruce Wayne is dead...
One can hope... But now, Arrow and Flash will drive The CW's profits('cause it's not just ratings for those, that are very heavy merchandise shows).
As much as my first choice is Claire Holt .... if not her then what about Arielle ( Lext - TVD ) Kebbel ?
ReplyDeleteomg, if they did a Supergirl series, i would totally wath that. Hands down!
ReplyDeleteHopefully this land on Fox. I like CW and all but bigger net means bigger budget. Seems the big nets are more interested in on spin-off type hero shows, AoS, Gotham, and Agent Carter. I'd like a more traditional super hero series but better production values. Imagine Arrow with Fox/Gotham money!
ReplyDeleteThat depend on if the producers will let their star lead do another show because some won't let them because of their contract Daniel Gillies is on recurring on Saving Hope he not the lead on the show and since Laura Vandervoot is the lead on Bitten how would she be able to be the lead on Supergirl and what if both shows air at the same time
ReplyDelete------------------------------
Having both shows air at the same time basically has no consequences to the scheduling at all lol. If Super Girl was picked up and she was casted they be filming the shows at different points.
ReplyDeleteHis pedigree is a bit of a mixed bag... some good stuff, some good stuff that turned sour, some bad stuff... I dunno...
ReplyDeleteAlso I love superheroes and comic book characters as much as the next person but I do think there needs to be a bit of a pause in the whole craze...
Well, at the very least it's not another white totrured male character they're thinking of putting on the screen this time...
is it neccessary to really have a smallville based show again? sure, I loved the 1st series as much as the next guy but a 2nd show similar just restricts you to what you can do on set - ditch this whole supergirl plot and move onto something better, maybe do something with a villain like sinestro for a change.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Let's go back to the gazillion vampire shows or cop shows! ; )
ReplyDeleteOh no! Lord knows we have enough Zombies and Vamps...and cop shows. Doesn't leave much more to watch. ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I'd totally be game for that!!!
