Sons Of Anarchy - Toil And Till - Review: "Old Sins"

Sons Of Anarchy aired its second episode of its final season on Tuesday night. Episode 1, Black Widower, was a great introduction to the season last week as we learned Jax's new philosophy on life and where his journey is headed. He needs to get closure on the death of Tara and, to me, will believe anyone willing to offer up info on the matter. Gemma is a great liar, we all know, but we watch in anticipation for the moment when Jax figures out it was her who killed Tara and Juice knew all along.

To be honest, I never understood Jax wanting his MC to venture into more legitimate business dealings. That was how I felt watching the first few seasons. I kept anticipating him to go off the rails after realizing that goal was too difficult to continuously reach for. That's what I thought, at least. However, with Season 7 underway, we see Jax forgetting all that he has worked so hard for and is only out for revenge, searching desperately for Tara's killer and the truth about what happened that fateful day. He is not thinking clearly and, as a result, keeps putting the MC in more dangerous positions, waging a war on the Chinese one henchman and one drug deal at a time. This is all very uncharacteristic for Jax, who always seemed to have all the right answers, never making mistakes. Maybe killing off Tara, at the end of last season, was a little premature as she was mostly Jax's compass for a more righteous life.

The episode continues the Son's tradition of great action sequences. Paired with some heavy music the chase scene with Jax in the truck was one of the best scenes of the season so far. I'm wondering how many more times Jax and the MC can push the limit of attacking the Chinese gangs operations and men without getting caught. This is definitely a great arc to start the final season and it is only going to get more interesting as the series reaches its inevitable end.

Now that we know Jax's complete plan, we have to think of how other factors will come into play. When will Jax find out about what Gemma did? How will he react? Where will Juice go and will it be possible to escape Charming without Jax finding him first? We know that Tara and Jax never were able to leave and something tells me that Juice will not make it out of Charming alive.

For now, this season appears to be about Jax and his MC seeking to avenge Tara's death and seek the truth involving that tragic event at his home. This episode reveals a little more about Jax's overall plan, which is wider in scope than we originally thought. As great as I envisioned the season was going to be after watching the premiere last Tuesday, after hearing Jax's complete intentions, made it exponentially better. The music this season also makes a large impact, so keep an ear open for all the great song selections Sutter has incorporated into the series.

Thoughts and Discussion

- I would love to read what everyone thinks will happen when Jax finds out the truth about what Gemma did.

- Will Juice be able to leave Charming alive? Will Jax be the one to get to him first?

- What is Unser planning to do with his new position as 'consulting investigator'. Will he play his old role of being an inside man on the Charming PD or will he be more legitimate?
