Original Article
Around 2 years ago the company that used to produce our SpoilerTV Android App went out of business and since then we've had to rely on our Mobile Site (m.spoilertv.com) to support Android Smartphone and tablet users. We've had a lot of feedback from users asking if we will ever have another one.
Well I'm pleased to announce that we're in the process of creating a new Android App for our SpoilerTV Readers, and wanted to give you a sneak peek at it, as well as asking your opinion.
Here are some of the features of the app.
- Faster loading than the mobile app
- Ability to easily search for articles.
- Can star articles for later viewing
- Supports 3 different themes currently
- Supports List or Grid Mode
- Notifications of new articles
- You can easily view all articles from the last 24 hrs
- Quick access to some popular shows
- Ability to Hide Read Articles
- Ability to Mark All Read
- Sort by Articles by Date, Title, and read/unread
- View Movie Articles
- View Recent Reviews
- Quick links to key articles like Cancellation Table, Pilot Watch, Show Status, Premiere Calendar

- View Trending Articles
- View BUZZ Articles
- View Fan Showcase
- View Recent Comments
- Ability to Submit Scoop from your Mobile
- Easily Share Articles on Social Media
Here are some screenshots to give you an idea of what it look likes.
Now we need to ask for your opinion. Obviously creating and maintaining the app costs money, so we want to ask you, the SpoilerTV Readers, how you would like to support the App.
Please indicate in the poll below which method would suit you most. You have the choice of either a Free App with Ads running in it to support the app, or for an Ad Free version for a nominal cost. If you select an Ad Free version please indicate how much you would be willing to spend on purchasing the app.
If you have any questions/suggestions/comments please don't hesitate in asking in the comments below.

As one of the team who has tested it on my Nexus 7 I can say it's pretty impressive.
ReplyDeleteWorks really fast.
YAAAAY! Thank you! I've been wanting an app for a long time now. And the fact that the app, at least according to the screenshots, will follow some of the Android design guidelines makes it even better! Personally, I hate ads in the actual apps and I'm willing to pay to remove them, but having to buy without trying will also drive away users. Perhaps a free ad-supported app that has an in-app purchase through the Google Play Store to remove the ads? Can't wait to see the final product! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for testing and glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteIt's something we might look at but we not sure if we can do it with the current software we use.
ReplyDeleteI believe most Android apps from the play store have a 2hr window in which you can decide if you want to continue with your purchase. So if after using it you decide it's not worth the cost you can get a full refund.
Honestly, i wouldn't mind paying a buck or two. Especially if it means none of those annoying advertisements. Great design btw. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback Charlie
ReplyDeleteI always go with the ad supported version because I don't spend money on apps, hence I think there should both ad-free and ad-supported versions should be available.
ReplyDeleteI think, no matter which road you choose to go, you should offer a way to get rid of the ads, through an in-app purchase. Making it a free app, with ads, is the best way to reach a iwider audience, and
ReplyDeleteI think it's best for the site to make it a free app with ads, that offers an in app purchase of 2-5 dollars to get rid of the ads. That way you reach a wider audience of users that don't want to pay for the app, and you offer an option to users that don't want any ads, such as myself, to pay a small sum in order to get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteas a fan I would be willing to pay for an add free version. But not sure this would draw enough peeps. As long as I get and App, I am happy ;-)
ReplyDeleteI voted "Add Free - $10 to buy".
ReplyDeleteI mean, I like the whole SpoilerTv stuff a lot - except for the crazy CW fanatics ... :-).
I would like to install the app but making my own donation to support the STV team (and removing ads). I think 10$ are also few money, you make a lot of good work here.
Thanks, that's very kind.
ReplyDeleteI think for the 1st release we'll have to go with just Ad supported for now but we hope later on to provide the ability for users to remove it by making a small donation
Thanks. I think for the 1st release we'll have to go with just Ad supported for now but we hope later on to provide the ability for users to remove it by making a small donation
ReplyDeleteYep.I think for the 1st release we'll have to go with just Ad supported for now but we hope later on to provide the ability for users to remove it by making a small donation
ReplyDeleteI voted for ad free but i'd be more than willing to pay after installing it to remove the ads or make a donation like some apps do :) Im glad there's an app coming out :)
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer to pay than to get adds since I find them very annoying all the time. I pay for some apps exactly to avoid them.
ReplyDeleteI voted to pay 2$ extra. I mean the best solution would be that it's free but I know you guys have to put a lot of work in maintaining this site, mobile site and app. Looking forward to use the app.
ReplyDeleteI answered "free - ad supported"
ReplyDeleteBUT then it would be nice to have the option of paying a fee ( in-app purchase ? 1or 2$ or equivalent in €) to get an ad free version... The reason behind my thinking is that sometimes I download an app and I either use it very often, and in this case I would pay the fee (to avoid being annoyed by ads everywhere) or I'll have it but almost never use it, and in this case I would leave it with ads ( for free ). Does it make sense to anyone lol ?
Yep, makes perfect sense. I do the same a lot as well ;)
ReplyDeleteA no.1 feature in such app must be the possibility to filter my favorite shows in the slide-out menu and in the notifications. Is that coming?
ReplyDeleteIt's on our long term roadmap but we need to wait until the software advances enough to provide that level of flexibility.
ReplyDeleteWhat software? You're not having it done in raw code using the Android Studio, but instead built on some platform? Ouch...
ReplyDeleteResults are never that satisfactory as with true native Android apps. As you said, limited flexibility, limited design, limited changes... etc.
Yep, unfortunately I don't have the time, skills or money to write an app from scratch.
ReplyDeleteOK, totally understand.
ReplyDeleteDo you have an app for IOS?
ReplyDeleteNo, sorry.
ReplyDeleteEmail submitted ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, invites have been sent out and you should have access to the G+ Beta Community
ReplyDeleteThank you, just installed on my phone ;-)
ReplyDeleteCool, hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteI don't even have an iPhone lol, so looking forward to the android app!! Hoping you make it free with ads...
ReplyDeleteSome people don't have a dollar or 2 to spare,it doesn't make the stingy.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite late! But I've given in my email in case you're still accepting them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's a great app, definitely better than the first one, and way more convenient than the mobile site!
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you like it.
