Resurrection
Season Premiere Sunday, September 28, 9:00-10:00 p.m.
What if someone you had lost suddenly returned? The people of Arcadia, Missouri are forever changed when their deceased loved ones suddenly start to reappear.
An 8-year-old American boy named Jacob mysteriously appears in rural China, oceans away from the world he knows. Chicago immigration agent, J. Martin Bellamy, finds himself in the small town of Arcadia, Missouri when he is tasked to return Jacob to his home. When they arrive, Agent Bellamy discovers the house is now occupied by a 60-year-old couple, Henry and Lucille Langston. The couple claims their son, Jacob, drowned in an accident more than 30 years ago. Stunned, the family and the community must deal with what seems to be the impossible - Jacob is returned from the dead - but, he is not the only one.
More deceased loved ones start to reappear, sending the town into turmoil, with Sheriff Fred Langston standing firmly as the voice of law and order. His daughter, Dr. Maggie Langston, is torn between her heart and her head, determined to look for a scientific explanation to all of this. Pastor Tom Hale struggles to help the community find spiritual guidance in such uncertain times, which is only further complicated with the return of his pregnant first love, Rachael. On the other end of the spectrum, Maggie's life-long friend, Elaine Richards, lets herself whole-heartedly embrace this miracle when her long-dead father, Caleb returns. But the dead tend to return with secrets, and Caleb's is a dark one.
Compelled to stay and protect Jacob and the people of this town, Bellamy teams up with Maggie to try to figure out why the unexplainable is happening in Arcadia. Agent Bellamy wishes to keep all this from his government bosses, fearing they will over-react. But despite his and Maggie's best efforts, they can't keep this phenomenon hidden from the outside world for long. The government steps in and leaves Bellamy shaken in its wake with the shocking discovery that he is himself, a returned. He struggles to understand not only how this is possible, but what it means on a personal level to discover he has died and come back.
This little town and Bellamy must now live in a new reality, but not without one more surprise, the return of Margaret Langston (Michelle Fairley, "Game of Thrones"). Margaret is the powerful matriarch of the Langston family and mother of Henry and Fred. Dead for over three decades, Margaret brings with her dark family secrets that will have consequences for the entire family and community.
