One-Hour Drama from Fox Television Studios is Based on International Best Seller “La Reina Del Sur” by Arturo Pérez-Reverte

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA – September 23, 2014 – USA Network announced today the pilot pick-up of the drama series QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, from Fox Television Studios, to be executive produced by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller ("The Final Girls"), along with David Friendly (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “Big Mommas House”) and Pancho Mansfield (“Damien”). The pilot is written by Fortin and Miller. Based on the literary page-turner “La Reina Del Sur,” the top-selling novel by the internationally acclaimed author Arturo Pérez-Reverte also yielded a Telemundo series that became one of the most popular telenovelas of all time for USA’s sister network.

“We are excited to bring this global best-selling thriller to our viewers,” said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network. “QUEEN OF THE SOUTH is a suspenseful twist on a dramatic tale of love and betrayal that examines the desperate choices people make when lives are on the line.”
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH tells the story of “Teresa Mendoza.” When her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico, Teresa is forced to go on the run and seek refuge in America, where she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. In the process, she learns the tools of the trade and strategically positions herself to become the leader of the Cartel.

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH joins the previously announced pilot pick-up of STANISTAN, MR. ROBOT from Anonymous Content and Carlton Cuse’s COLONY.

  2. The Telemundo series was absolutely phenomenal. They have good material, but if the casting choices aren't good I'm not watching.
