I'll have to wait until tomorrow when CBS posts it on its website. Was very excited to watch it live, but thanks to that great game in Seattle, it got pushed.
I liked that so much more than I expected to. Tea Leonis *is* perfect in this role. I liked that they avoided the stereotypical family issues at home. And the arc mystery was subtly handled and intriguing.
It was okay...ish. Thing is I can't help but compare any show that has even a tangential connection with the going ons in the White House with The West Wing and this show didn't measure up.
We'll see how it goes in future episodes but pilot was so so.
I gave it a GOOD. The things I liked about it were Leoni's acting, and how they somehow incorporated Hillary Clinton's style into the dialogue -- the language she uses is very similar to Clinton's in her book Hard Choices, and the Black Hawk Down line I believe is taken literally from the book. I didn't enjoy the procedural aspect of the show, the release of the prisoners was cartoonish, simplistic and unrealistic. I didn't like the stereotypes in her team, as someone pointed out correctly they look more like Selina's staffers in Veep. I'll give it another chance but if it becomes a "crisis of the week" kind of show I'll stop watching.
I loved it and loved the intrigue. Who believes that her husband is not what he seems? I don't trust him. How did they meet. All of her friends are CIA , could he have been with them too or better yet part of a sleeper cell? Looking forward to her sticking it to Chief of Staff. So much more to look forward to.
The part where the boys got out of the plane was super cheesy, but altogether I really liked the first episode. Too little Bebe, though! Hopefully her character isn't just going to stand in the back at all times..
Not great but then again not that many pilots are very good.I'll stay with it for awhile,it was good enough to leave me wanting to see more and see how it progresses..
I think the show has a lot of potential and I like it so far (and absolutely love the cast, so that's a plus). The end sent chills down my spine, actually.
She absolutely made the right call, circumventing the Chief of Staff. I'm not into US governmental politics much, but I'm reasonably certain the President's Chief of Staff doesn't have the authority to order around the Secretary of State.
Agreed. I think she's a better actress than Geena Davis (who wasn't very convincing as a female President), and I think it's better suited having someone who isn't directly at the top of the political food chain.
I enjoyed watching this episode, it didn't enthral me but unlike that itches potential to. Tea Leoni was great, like James Spader does (in my opinion) for Tge Blacklist she will carry this series.
I really liked the pilot and I'm really looking forward to the rest of this series! Tea Leoni is so awesome! The one thing I did have a question on, and this might be the tiniest bit SPOILERY, but in the episode we saw her son and daughter, however with her dinner with the King of Swaziland, she said she had a son and two daughters... Where's the second daughter? And earlier she said she had two teenagers. So I'm just slightly confused there. Do they have an older daughter who lives away from home? Because I can't imagine that if they had a younger daughter they wouldn't show her in the episode. So error in the script or a character to be revealed later? Anyone got any answers to that? Thanks!
I just watched it because of the nice memories of TWW, but unfortunately it remained this way. Tea Leoni was IMHO good in the role. Maybe a bit too Hillary Clinton, but as I know her only from the papers, it didn't bother me. But if they keep the COTW In World Politics structure, I think the show too soon will turn into a bad joke.
I mean now, when the news are full of the hostages of IS, presenting a show in which the Secretary of State singlehandedly free hostages from captivity in two days - I know I should suspend my disbelief, but to it won't work. 24 or Scandal also happens/happened in the high politics but the actual political conflicts and problems are just background noise there to the personal and love scheming or to Jack Bauer's badassness.
The scene with the guys on the tarmac was soooo over the top and unnecessarily long, I can't tell and IMHO squeezing the Big Conspiracy against the former SoS right into the pilot was also an overkill.
They weren't held by terrorists, they were held by the Syrian government who had accused them of working for the CIA and undermining the government with their website, and were going to execute them as spies. The Chief of Staff was referring to the kids as being as bad as terrorists and even called them jihadists while Tea argued they were just posting pictures and articles so they were hardly jihadists. And she negotiated (via the Russian she knew from her time with the CIA) with someone inside the Syrian government to get them released in return for $1.5million in humanitarian aid and a photo opportunity for the government leaders handing out the aid.
I'm predicting an older daughter who doesn't live at home - the comments were too major to be errors IMO
* IMDB lists three children with surname McCord...... Alison (Kathrine Herzer) & Jason (Evan Roe) who were living with them, and Stephanie 'Stevie' (Wallis Currie-Wood) who didn't appear and could perhaps be away at college and not living at home.
Hate to say I kind of like it. The main actress is really good, and good-looking! Though I don't get why this is such a twist that George died, I mean, it happens every time in pilots that someone dies but I don't think he was that important? Or was it because he was close to Madam S?
Just watched it online. It was actually a great pilot. Really enjoyed Tea Leoni's character along with her supporting cast. I also like the sub-plot about the previous Secretary and how he is corrupt. I'm looking forward to watch this show, despite its time slot issues.
I was pleasantly surprised, I really liked this and will def tune in again. Tea did really good & the rest of the adult cast was good too. The kids seemed a little awkward but since they weren't in many scenes I could overlook it.
(Spoiler for anyone who hadn't seen it) I think his death was important because he said earlier in the episode that the previous SoS's death wasn't an accident. It was implied that George's death wasn't an accident, but a planned death under disguise as one, because he knew. I'm sure it's foot work for later plot. And yes, they were also close friends.
I enjoyed this pilot, and think the show has laid some good groundwork for characters, overall storytelling, and the intrigue aspect. I think Tea Leoni is pretty great as the show's Madame Secretary. She conveys quite well, the intelligence, and potential to surprise others, with her capability.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Tea Leoni is the perfect actress for this role.
ReplyDeleteWas planning on watching the re-airing because I couldn't catch the first airing but it seems that CBS has preempted it with CSI. Real bummer.
ReplyDeletethat's annoying. Can you watch online at all?

ReplyDeleteI gotta wait to watch because of football

Not for me pass!
ReplyDeleteSame here, I found the characters weak and the story recycled. This has been done before and much better.

ReplyDeleteOkay, that's what I thought. And I DID see Stevie's name in the episode 3 synopsis credits. Thanks so much!
