  1. I like this show a lot and Selina and Jada Pinkett Smith's character are my favorites so far (also like Jim).

Why is Alfred so mean? Get poor Bruce some help!

  3. Much better than the Pilot. Keep this up, then it might have me on board by episode 3.

  6. I'm liking Selena, she is a survivor in the darkness of Gotham Selena shines a bright light, I'm not mad at her I'm a big fan of the future her, Jada continues to be all kinds of crazy, Gotham still gives me the illusion I'm watching a movie, this is a terrific show, the intensity is amped up!!!

  7. Much better than the pilot IMO.

  8. This is probably the best live action depiction of The Penguin I've ever seen. I feel like he steals the show every time he's on screen.

  9. Alfred is supposed to be this tough on the edge, soft in core ex military dude that takes up the role of a strict father for Bruce.

Especially in Bruces current state Alfred might be exactly who he needs.

Remembering Bruce standing on the roof in the pilot and Alfred just being like "Ey, you lil' f'ck get down here" pretty much shows that Alfred is the strong hand a kid in his state needs.

  10. After not being too happy with the pilot this was a lot better, it seems to slowly be taking its own style. Not the "you know whose name I'm about to mention"-ized minimalist version. That's good.
Loving the casting choices and as far as original characters go: Fish Mooney is brilliant.

Too much gushing for me, I need to hate something about it: Jada Pinkett Smith is chewing the scenery, oh boy. In the best sense of the word though, Exactly my kind of overactor (she and Joseph Morgan should totally grab tea someday).

overall this was SO much better than the pilot, not that the pilot was terrible, just didn't connect with me. This on the other hand, yeah can imagine watching that for the long run.

only one thing: feed the guy playing the penguin some donouts

  11. Didn't really improve on my issues with the Pilot but it was still Okay.

  12. Loved it, great to see more of Selina. Can't wait for the next ep.

  13. This episode was good but wasn't as good as the pilot. For an episode named "Selina Kyle" we barely saw her in this episode and she didn't even speak until later on. She's a really good manipulator too. Jada Pinkett and Viola Davis both need Emmys for their respective roles next year, they are both killing it this season with their new shows!

  14. Exactly, couldn't have said it better

  15. Good lord, this show is bad.

  16. a much smoother feeling and flowing ep over the pilot for me. the plotline was ok, but the performances were much more on point for me.. one more sample ep, but it's looking good to have the show on my regular schedule

  17. I believe it's Batman: Earth One.

I'd recommend that if you want to know more about Gotham's take on Alfred.

  18. Really good episode and better than the pilot

  19. If this series were called "Chris Nolan's GOTHAM", would anyone really be surprised? I didn't realize Camren Bicondova (Selina Kyle) was so young (15). I liked her screen time, though it was to brief. I would like to see more screen time for her (Camren Bicondova). Robin Lord Taylor is delivering a brilliant performance as Oswald Cobblepot (he who will one day be the Penguin). Jada Pinkett Smith is owning scene after scene with her performance as Fish Mooney............more, more, more! Between the casting, performances, cinematography, and storyline (so far) "Gotham" is must see TV for this viewer. 4 A DARK KNIGHT IN GOTHAM, I will be Nobody!!!

  20. loved the episode, i really hope they go the hero route with selina instead of the villain, i hope we get to see more of her and gordon, i really liked her she's definitely a survivor and bruce man this kid is going to grow up and even beat christian bale as the dark knight loved that we see why alfred is so rough and tough with bruce, loving david in the role he's amazing

  21. Yes I think the kid who plays Bruce is doing an amazing job and I like their take on Alfred.
Selina is a I don't know the word anti hero?? In the comics. I don't think they will turn her into a full fledged villain at least I hope they don't.
I think the actress playing her is doing a great job.

  22. Im actually enjoying this show a lot, the cast is spot on....everyone of them, Bruce, Selina, Pinguin, Riddle, Jim etc. !!!!! And it feels like Im watching a movie, the cinematography is great!!! If they keep this high quality on network tv they will nail it for this fall, as much as I tried Agents of Shield it still looks just like plain network tv but Gotham is just another reality!!!!! DC needs to keep doing more tv and leave Marvel for the movies. Great show!!!! So excited and looking forward.....

  23. Selina and Little Bruce my favorite choices, these kids are nailing it. That happens when you give iconic superhero characters to kids, they let their imagination go......

  24. Pilot was OK this episode was at least Great! This seems to get better and better!

  25. Is Bruno Heller under some kind of contractual obligation to include all these characters in every episode. It would be one thing if the show was an hour and a half like Sherlock, but it's not. Given the current time constraints, the show should be centered around the characters the audience cares the most about: Gordon, Bruce, Selina.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Really? The character and the actress have been getting raves on social media despite very limited screen-time? Can't please everyone, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  27. And what issues would those be?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hmm. Can't please everyone, I guess. Most people on social media seem to be really like it. The critical reviews for the pilot were mixed, but seem to be mostly positive for this episode. It is a show for fans of the kind of Gotham Nolan created, though.

  29. Actually, I quite like the Nolan films and have enjoyed numerous iterations of Batman over the years. No, I don't like it because the writing is poor (the dialogue rarely sounds like things real people would say), the plotting and characterization inconsistent ("Get me Jim Gordon now! I don't want to talkto Jim Gordon! Get me Jim Gordon now!") and cliched, much of the acting is abominable (Jada Pinkett Smith is almost unwatchably bad) and the tone can't seem to decide whether it really wants to go Nolan-style grim and gritty or Adam West-style satirical/campy (e.g. the over-the-top style adopted for the villains this week). The guy playing the Penguin is interesting, I'll give you that.

  30. Many lines of dialogue are inspired straight from the neo-noir versions of the comics. Remember, this is Bruno Heller who's writing the episodes. Despite the crappiness of the Red John episode of The Mentalist, the guy is a very respected screen-writer.
Jada's performance is a bit over the top, but it's clearly inspired by Eartha Kitt. She's my least favorite character, however.
Either way. I like it a lot more than I liked AOS, and the reaction seems to be very positive on social media. To each his own.

  31. I think the titled episode, was about Selena the kidnapping of the street kids, tied into her, and the big reveal at the end when she told Gordon she knows who killed the Wayne's IMHO, the episode was about her and what she contributed!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Winger77, you seem to be on top of things maybe you could help me out, who is the guy that works at the police station that always provide info to Gordon and his partner it seems to be more to him, is he some future baddie? I hope you can in lighten me Thanks!!!!

  33. The constant shifts in tone between dark and comic (especially the "goofy" background music in some scenes) are a bit abrupt to me, but otherwise I'm really enjoying the show so far. Maybe it still needs to time to figure out exactly what kind of atmosphere the world of Gotham is supposed to have. Loving the dynamic between Gordon and Selina, I want to see more of that in future episodes.

  34. Edward Nigma. The future Riddler.

  35. He is the future riddler I guess.

  36. Aahh Thanks so much, I really appreciate the info:)!!!

  39. This episode was much much better than the pilot. The show is getting into its groove. Loved Selina/Gordon at the end. For an episode titled Selina Kyle there was so little of her. I hope Penguin comes back to Gotham soon. I like this iteration of Alfred really well. It's different from other Alfred's I have seen. I liked David Mazouz on the episodes I saw of The Touch. But I am not connecting much with him as Bruce Wayne. There is something missing there. Also Barbara is kind of annoying. Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney is really over the top but fun character. But my favorite is Harvey Bullock. He is great.

    No problem! =)

  41. I don't think this is going to be a keeper for me. I'm not really liking any of the characters...and the stories aren't really grabbing me. My reaction to this ep was 'Eh'

    ReplyDelete
  42. 2 episode, wait at least for the show to develop a little. lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. My usual pattern is 6 - 10. But I didn't like any of these characters and that's a major element for me. Maybe I'll check back in after 6 eps and see if there's anything to grab me.
