I gave it a good. As a season/series finale, it had some interesting moments, but it felt like it left too many things undone, like the Odin bomb plot was discovered but would've liked some closure with him either getting apprehended or someone saything that he got away but the authorities are looking for him and possibly the conspirator at Yasumoto getting discovered, but we got nothing, and then the side plot with Yasumoto's pursuit of immortality just pretty much disappeared a few eps back along with his character and no resolution with that either (Did he even know about the spores? or was he just interested in finding the yellow goo that extended his life span... you'd think that he'd be around at the end).. kinda unsatisfying for me... there's some stuff like the Offspring and Ethan's program in the system like a baby skynet, and possibly any spores making it to earth after the explosion to continue if the want another season, but I'd be fine with ending it here. Overall, I'd give the season a good (not great) rating, as it started off with a lot of promise but then felt like it meandered some and dragged thru a few eps for me and never really got going with any sense of urgency...
Okay, I have to admit, I teared up a little bit when Ethan "died" as I guess I just didn't expect it. Plus, he grew on me a little. I really enjoyed this finale, and I hope the series gets a season 2. :)
No big cliffhangers but a lot of unanswered questions (Yasumoto?). Anyway, it was a good (series, probably) finale. Voted for "awesome" because I appreciated the authors' honesty: the ending felt really conclusive. Imho, this is how a supposed limited series should run and conclude itself.
Awesome finale for me, I think they show a good development about family with Ethan, Molly and John, after all Ethan is one the best characters of Extant. I think they kept to much thing open, what happens to Yasumoto, and what about the offspring and the aliens, where the autor would go in season 2, I think is a interesting question. I really hope the show gets a season 2, the cast is good, the effects are great for a tv show and the storyline with aliens and robots is really intriguing for me.
I thought the season (series?) finale was really good, above average of the rest of the season. It had the right balance of action and emotion. My favourite line was by Ethan: "I think this is my purpose". That kid can surely act. Overall I give the show a 6.5 out of 10. It had a good start, struggled in the middle and finished on a high note. But Halle Berry's talent as an actress was underutilized in my opinion.
Great points! There was so much stuff left by the wayside with no mention of what happened. I also was really excited about the series when it started but it got slow and not as interesting and - exactly as you say - no sense of urgency. You explained exactly how I felt!
You didn't miss the explanation because there never was one! I still don't know what the aliens have to do with immortality. Femi Dodd had no follow-through, either. I can't decide if they purposely left these things for season two or just never followed up on things they started. ?
I think you are wrong: The stuff that healed Yasumoto and made him immortal (which he found in that cave), was traced back to the aliens. Ergo finding the aliens would help in getting him more goo/stuff to keephim alive.
That's okay, I only just recently watched the whole season back to back in a few days. I guess it's much easier to make all the connections when you do that! ;)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The offspring got Molly up there to bring his counter part home but she failed.

ReplyDeleteThis was the season finale right? Did it end in a cliffhanger?

ReplyDeleteI found good in general. I wonder if there will be a second season
ReplyDeleteNothing really major but left bits and pieces out in the open like Yasumoto, Molly's offspring and Odin.
ReplyDeletebest episode so far..

ReplyDeleteThat was my favorite line, too! (And agree with you about the start, middle and finish!)

It's been so long since I've seen it, I have to admit, I can't remember any more. But thanks for pointing out the connections!

ReplyDeleteSo true - it really is easier to see all the connections when you watch them all in a row. :)
