It seems like just yesterday I came to the end of ‘Deus Ex Machina’, knowing that it would be four months until the next episode of Person of Interest. Now, the season premiere is just days away, and I’ve got a preview to whet your appetites ahead of the premiere.
We pick up the episode a couple of months after the events of the third season finale. All of our team have new jobs, though not all of them are settling in very well (I’ll give you one guess at who that is). With Samaritan up and running, the library gone and the team attempting to survive, circumstances certainly have changed.
This episode brilliantly balances the difficulty between the team surviving and helping the numbers. Obviously, attempting to utilise the information the Machine gives puts the team in danger, but are they willing to let bad things happen to stay alive longer? There’s some nice scenes that discuss this dilemma.
Elsewhere, Cara Buono’s character makes a first appearance. I won’t say very much about her very important role, but with a seemingly bold and sinister personality, she makes quite a first impression.
I loved this episode. The writing is, as usual, intelligent and the acting is superb. The episode sets up a lot of paths for the season to follow, which is what I wanted from the episode.
Some dialogue teases:
- “It wasn’t my weapon.”
- “Please be quiet.”
- “I could stab you with my stiletto.”
- “Make yourself at home.”
- “You taught me that.”
Excited? Watch an extended promo below, and make sure to tune in to ‘Panopticon’, Tuesday September 23rd at 10pm on CBS, then check back to SpoilerTV for my full review of the episode!
I loved your review! I'm looking forward to Person of Interest's Season 4 premiere!
ReplyDeleteOMG AWESOME! So jealous you have seen the episode.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great preview!
I'll try to guess some of the lines
“It wasn’t my weapon.” - Reese???
“Please be quiet.” ?? Shaw?
“I could stab you with my stiletto.” Shaw???
“Make yourself at home.” No idea
“You taught me that.” Root???
Some of them, not all of them, but some of them are right. I won't say how many or which ones ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tantalizing peek. Love this show's intelligence, humor, and heart.
ReplyDeleteWow! This had made me so excited for the episode! Great preview by the way!
ReplyDeleteLast seasons finale was great, and this sounds even better! Can't wait!
My favorite bit of dialog is ..."the mayhem twins"....
ReplyDeleteThis really is a beautiful fourth season premiere. This new direction will be a wild ride, and I am so looking forward to it!
Again , Thanks Bradley! XD This is really one of the few shows returning for fall that I am most excited about!
ReplyDelete"Obviously, attempting to utilise the information the Machine gives puts the team in danger, but are they willing to let bad things happen to stay alive longer? There’s some nice scenes that discuss this dilemma."
I'm very glad about this! I was hoping they wouldn't shy away from that reality, since it's that reality that made this the way it is.

Me too! I was hoping there would be something liberating about this set up, as opposed to making it feel too closed off! Looking forward Cara Buono's character too! The promos really make her seem like she's gonna be something! XD
I vote for Finch saying "Please be quiet" and Reese saying "You taught me that". Stabbing with a stiletto is too Shaw to be anyone else. "Make yourself at home"... Fusco? lol... here's to the new game we've got to pass the time ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview :-) It whets the appetite without giving much away.
ReplyDeletecan not wait!
ReplyDeletePlease be quiet - It must be Finch, I think it was in one of the SPs
ReplyDeleteStiletto - definitely Shaw
You taught me that - I vote for Reese, also seems to me that it was in the SP
Make yourself at home - Fusco-like grumpiness, but I can also hear it said on Root's voice with a smirk :)
It wasn't my weapon - Reese or Shaw - or an unmentioned 5th?
BTW: since the finale the three hackers has been bugging me. I mean the first one was saved and stashed to the other end of the world well before the new chip was created or before the servers existance even popped up. The Machine had created safe identities to them also. Was there any hint in the premier that they will have a recurring role or what did originally the Machine plan with them?
Nice work Bradley. This has certainly whet my appetite.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to whether the new title sequence is in this one. Going by my gut, I think not, and there's just the title card intro (as done in Lethe, Aletheia & Deus Ex Machina).
I really hope we get to see more of Elias this season
ReplyDeleteJust a title card in this ep. Dunno if they'll actually go back to a full intro for a while, given the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteNo mention of the hackers in the premiere.
ReplyDeleteMayhem twins - this must have come from Fusco :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if your great review made it easier..........or harder..........to wait til Tues! LOL! Always love to read reviews by people who truly enjoy the show............and 'get it'..........
ReplyDeleteAieee, why is isn't it Tuesday? Very good review, I want to see it more than ever, especially liked the dialogue teasers.
ReplyDeleteWrong, try again!!
ReplyDeleteNo, I won't try, rather wait ti see it ;)
ReplyDeleteId honestly like to know how Root has survived so long. Shes abducted Finch and threatened him on multiple occasions, kidnapped and electrocuted Shaw on multiple occasions and yet everyone always seems to treat her with far more respect than she ever gives anyone else.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we might, since they showed a flash of him. I would expect that he may want to help them because Samaritan could really mess up his operation and take control of the city away from his "mob."
ReplyDeleteThe Stiletto one is to Root.
ReplyDeleteNo, I think it was Fusco if I'm remembering the episode correctly....
ReplyDeleteNo, it was Root!
