"Yes, that’s the Sorcerer’s hat from Fantasia,” executive producer Edward Kitsis tells EW of the magical object, whose properties can be very deadly in the wrong hands. “We wanted to make the stars look real."
So, who does the hat belong to? Someone we’re going to meet, not someone we already know, according to Kitsis, who rules out returning villain Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten).

There’s a fantastic tease that Regina is going to find the author of the fairytale book. How will that play out this season, and will that be an answer we get sooner versus later?
Edward Kitsis: That one’s a bigger arc. Some seeds that were planted will be dealt with right away, and others will take a longer journey. The end result is you will find out who wrote the book.
Is the author someone we’ve seen before?
EK: You’ll have to wait and see.

Hmm it's probably Yen Sid from Fantasia. Could be Mickey Mouse too I guess...
ReplyDeleteNext year is Fantasia's 75th anniversary so it'll probably become more prominent in the second half of the season.
Ha! I knew it was that one! It had a similar song, too!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how does it relate to the rest of the story!
awesome that we'll find out who the Author is, I've wanted that since the SERIES premire, so cool it's the sorcerer's hat, i wonder what it could do even in a good person's hands ahem henry lol
ReplyDeleteUpvoted for knowing who Yen Sid is. Most people keep saying Merlin.
ReplyDeleteWhich is a little offensive, people thinking all magic hats look the same. I'm surprised they don't yell out "Oh look, the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter!"
Hatists.
i really hope its Merlin
ReplyDeleteThey might need whoever owns the hat now to defeat the next villain, or maybe even The Snow Queen this year. But I feel this story-line will keep going till next year.
ReplyDeleteOkay, that's pretty awesome. Wonder where they're going with this.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought it was merlin's hat, since I haven't seen Fantasia since I was five and have absolutely no idea of who the sorcerer was, only Mickey Mouse xD But I didn't link the hat and Fantasia right away, it's just that a purple hat seemed like something Merlin would have xD
ReplyDeleteNow, the only real question is: why it got the dagger to reveal the hat?
I bet you it's Yen Sid from Fantasia. He's also the writer of the book.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little surprised they brought in the book author storyline ... I've always been thinking this could be perfect as the final season storyline (maybe it turns out that the author is ... mr. Walt Disney indeed).
ReplyDeleteSweet. Walking brooms and a mouse in over his head?
ReplyDeleteLooked a second time - that's Rumple's dagger in the shot.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and I think that it would be a wonderful way to pay tribute to Walt Disney and this world that he created. OUaT, Frozen, and so many others owe him a debt. Without him, I don't believe they would exist.
ReplyDeleteNice catch with the music! This episode was full of actual Disney reference rather than fairy tale references. It's taking an interesting direction.
ReplyDeleteWho do you think would be powerful enough to create a dagger to control the first Dark One to start with? ;)
ReplyDeleteThe music accompanying this scene is very much inspired by the Dukas Sorcerer's Apprentice. Cool scene.
ReplyDeleteYou get a gold star for successfully using the word "Hatist" in a way that made me chuckle
