NCIS - New Orleans, the second spin-off from the hit series NCIS, is a very promising series. The whole series is very polished, the setting of New Orleans is done very well, and the characters fit the series remarkably well. There are a number of things done remarkably well in this episode, but how will the rest of the series turn out?

REVIEW
The crime solving trio in NCIS: New Orleans works surprisingly well. they all respect each other, get along with one another, and ultimately get the job done in the end. But you can definitely see space for some in house romance between LaSalle and Brody.
The story-lines in NCIS: New Orleans are very typical of crime procedural's, in this episode, a leg is found in a fish container, and with no body to go on, the team have to find answers. This was a very intriguing and interesting story line, kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole episode. However NCIS: New Orleans is going to have to bring some new, unique crimes to the table if it wants to bridge itself out from other crime procedural's.
Now - the accents, I found that the accents fit the nature of the series very well. Sure, Pride's accent did sound a little unnatural, however I think that it will just take time. LaSalle, on the other hand works extremely well, his accent fits the New Orleans feel about the series very well.
New Orleans as a setting was incredible, after all, this is the first crime procedural set in New Orleans (that I know of), it was refreshing to have a different city, different lifestyles, but still the same NCIS feel.
NCIS: New Orleans has the potential to go along way, judging from this episode, it could prove to become quite popular. Despite some cheesy comedy, NCIS: New Orleans gets everything right, and I can't wait to see how this series continues.
PROMO
WRAP-UP
- The character's work remarkably well together, and can see some room for romance later on in the series.
- Story lines are very typical of a crime procedural, but still very high quality. Would like to see some intense cases throughout the series,
- Accents do actually fit the series surprisingly well, however Pride's accent is a little unnatural.
- Comedy quite well done, despite some cheesy jokes here and there.
- New Orleans, an incredible city to work with, very different feel, but still same NCIS feel.
- Very engaging series, very interesting, very enjoyable episode overall.
- Has the potential to go along way, can't wait to see how far it goes.

So what is everyone's thoughts on NCIS: New Orleans so far?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview Ben.
ReplyDeleteI quite enjoyed the backdoor pilot and I hope that NCISNO can somehow differentiate itself and find it's own identity under the NCIS umbrella.
Glad you enjoyed it and hoping I will as well as I like the cast alot
I have never watched an NCIS before (mainly because there is so many episodes to catch up on) but I am looking forward to this. I love CCH Pounder from Warehouse 13 and Scott Bukula from ST Enterprise so as far as casting goes I am extremely happy with it. I hope NCIS NO does come up with its own cases as I would hate to be watching a show that has a "been there done that" vibe written all over it.
ReplyDeleteGreat review/preview by the way!
I agree with you there, I still haven't completely caught up on NCIS! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWelcome , I look forward to seeing your reviews of NCIS NO!
ReplyDeleteGreat (p)review! I'm quite excited about this series. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the original NCIS. I watched it for a couple of seasons but could never really get into it, probably because it had gone on for so long already and I didn't have the time or the energy to watch all the old episodes. However, I do watch NCIS:LA and I really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI felt like the backdoor pilot of NOLA had a very different vibe from the other two NCIS shows, and I liked it a lot. The characters were all interesting and I thought they had great chemistry. I could definitely see something develop between Brody and LaSalle later on, though I hope that if that is the case, it's handled better than Tony and Ziva (I never "shipped" them, but I thought the never-ending will-they-or-won't-they got ridiculous). But yeah, I really liked the new team.
None of the accents bothered me either, although at first I found Lucas Black's accent a bit distracting and amusing, as I'm not used to hearing that kind of southern accents in my tv shows (or anywhere else, for that matter). But I quickly got used to it, and in the end I thought it suited the show and the character rather well.
I just hope NCIS:NOLA can stand apart from NCIS and NCIS:LA and find its own audience!
Some excellent points there! I personally prefer NCIS: LA aswell! We shall see how NCIS: New Orleans turns out!
ReplyDeleteI will be watching, but then I'm a Scott Bakula fan of old. I have never been an NCIS fan, nor of any other US procedurals or other dramas. I'm expecting that Scott will put in his best effort as he always does, but I was not entirely satisfied with the production of the backdoor pilot - it all had a very rushed feel to me, and the writing was weak. But then that's why I don't watch US productions in general.
ReplyDeleteGlad you'll be watching, Scott Bakula is great!
ReplyDeleteThe cast works really well together which should make for a great series, thanks the comment!
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching it DVR'd (not Nielson so my viewing habits not matter anyway) since it took over the NCIS:LA slot. Not a big fan of Pride's accent (and his 'brother' thing from the 'pilot' drove me nuts); as noted, it doesn't sound natural (maybe a vocal coach can help???). LaSalle and Brody are fine though. I was a late starter for both NCIS and its sister show (only started watching both a few years back with LA only two years ago) so this'll be the first time I would watch one of the franchise from the get go.
ReplyDeleteGreat preview Ben! Looking forward to the show. I really enjoyed the backdoor pilot, interesting characters and a great setting.
ReplyDeleteI've also seen the screener and I agree with your points. I hope for some strong, unique and interesting cases in New Orleans. I liked the twist at the end of this case although I kind of saw it coming, but I hope we will see it again later this season (this sounds very cryptic in order to avoid spoilers, but I hope you know what I'm talking about). By the way, without revealing too much, what did you think of the introduction theme and the phoofs?
Thanks! I really liked the introduction theme, I found it quite neat!
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you'll be watching! Hope you will enjoy the series!
ReplyDeleteDoes NCIS: NO Opening Credits have the actor names and a 30-40 Sec Theme Song like the NCIS Opening Credits?
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely not the fake NCIS of NCIS:LA. Am glad with the storyline. Accents are passable.
ReplyDeleteThe opening theme is shorter than that of NCIS, I think around the same length of NCIS: LA. But no, it doesn't show all the actors names. Its a very unique intro!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, it is more along the lines of the original NCIS, than that of NCIS: LA. Thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteGreat preview Ben! I don't watch the original show and never have, though I've been interested as I love CSI, but there are just too many NCIS episodes to catch up on around my busy schedule so I might sample New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gavin! NCIS is a big series to catch up on, glad you are giving NCIS: New Orleans a go!
ReplyDeleteInteresting review. :)
ReplyDeleteI plan on giving it a try since New Orleans makes for a great background and the cast had great chemistry in the backdoor pilot. Not a guarantee watch for me though since I cannot stand NCIS: LA and got bored of NCIS after a handful of seasons.
OH, there was at least one other cop show filmed in N'orleans, it was called K-Ville. It did not last long though as I recall. Too bad since I think it was one of the first shows to go back to NO and try to help the local economy after Hurricane Katrina.
Thanks! New Orleans is somewhere unique! So there was another cop show filmed in NOLA? Interesting!
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd show us some scenes from the new season in the previews. All we've been getting are excerpts from the crossover ep with NCIS.
ReplyDeleteI'll watch the premiere, I quite enjoyed the intro ep. Most important question for me... Is there more LEGO in it?
