Sony Pictures is rebooting I Know What You Did Last Summer, the 1997 horror flick that ended up grossing $125M worldwide and spawned a sequel the following year. Both starred Jennifer Love Hewitt.
This one is being written by Oculus co-writer/director Mike Flanagan and partner Jeff Howard who are adapting the 1973 Lois Duncan book again. Producing is Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) who also produced the original 17 years ago.
If the budget is kept tight for the revamp of the popular horror movie about friends being stalked by a killer after conspiring to cover up a fatal car accident, it could be a very profitable venture for the studio.

Not sure how I feel about this, actually. I liked the original.
ReplyDeleteWhy reboot good stuff???? I get redoing badly done stories or untold stories. But the IKWYDLS films were quite good, I fairly enjoyed them! They are vintage!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreed and lack of imagination is terribly hitting Hollywood! And than people ask me why I don't go to the cinema, TV is much better.
it's like reboots and sequels is all they can do lately.
ReplyDeleteA reboot? Again?! Come on Hollywood, be better than that and hire people who actually have enough imagination to create good original stories!
ReplyDeleteI guess now I'm old enough to see movies I love being remade... That's sad... LOL
ReplyDeleteIt should be a law that you cannot "Remake/Reboot" a movie/tv show unless its been at least 35 years. that way, its still "fresh" and "new".
ReplyDeleteWow! there really is no more original ideas...
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I'm sitting here thinking, "But...but the original film's not even twenty years old yet..." It's close, but still.
ReplyDeleteI suppose if they can find some really unusual, new twist on the concept, perhaps it could work, but otherwise, I really can't see any reason why this needs to happen. There's plenty of lesser-mined ideas/books/etc. to play around with and make horror movies out of instead, I'd think.
I was 12 :P
ReplyDeleteThey're adapting the novel again, so unless the first movie wasn't that faithful, nothing new here.
Around the same age range, woo :D. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading the novel once, but that was back when I was a teenager (I think I checked it out after the movie came out). I think there might've been a few minor differences here and there, in terms of maybe a little more detail or something, but otherwise, yeah, I don't recall there really being any notable changes. So yep, I'd say your assumption is a pretty safe one, thus once again begging the question, "Why bother?"
I second that.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad. And so true.
ReplyDeleteI feel old, too.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Summer get all the love? How come there is no love for Autumn?
ReplyDeleteWhattt nooo way i loved the originals please stop rebootin stuff make somethin new people
ReplyDeleteWasn't the third installment already a reboot anyways (and a bad one)?
ReplyDeletei live in LA know quite a few writers. there are tons of good scripts out there. An yet the can't seen to find much original stuff to produce. it's a little depressing.
ReplyDeleteDidn't watch Carrie, RoboCop remakes and won't be watching this. Yeah haven't seen the movie in probably a decade if not more but I don't think it needs a remake! ugh why can't this little 90's gem be left alone? why can't perfectly good, enjoyable movies, some of them even classics be left alone? who's the next victim (movie) to get unnecessarily rebooted? E.T.? O_o
ReplyDeletethis movie is only 17 years old god this sucks hey do Scream too. Come on Hollywood you are really starting too suck ass.
ReplyDeleteto be fair if you are a teenager right now you will probably prefer the reboot or most likely never even heard about the original movie. but if you were a teenager 20 years ago you'll probably hate the reboot
ReplyDeleteOh god. Please don't!! Why can't they leave good movies alone!! This is why horror movies suck today. Smh
ReplyDeleteNo school, some people don't have to work, nice weather. Summer's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI was not even 3, but I do see the pointlessness of rebooting it.
ReplyDeleteI wish Hollywood would remake horrible book adaptations. There are many books that got crappy movie adaptations. I Know What You Did wasn't a masterpiece but I loved it when I was a teenager and I see no pointing of rebooting it.
