Fox has ordered a television sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, EW has confirmed.
The drama would pick up 10 years after the events of the film, in which a division called Precrime, headed up by Tom Cruise’s Chief John Anderton, used Precogs to arrest people before they actually committed a crime. Precrime was shut down, and the three Precogs tried to go on to lead a normal life—which is where the sequel comes in. Haunted by visions of the future, one of the Precogs teams with a detective who is haunted by her past.

I'm not sure how to feel about a sequel to Minority Report, but another futuristic/sci-fi buddy cop show? *ugh*
ReplyDeleteAt least Almost Human was a way more fresh (to not say original) than this and had great writing when it came to exploring how technology would be used in the future. This is just another "my buddy is able to see crimes that are about to happen while I miss my ex-wife, or lost my wife or kids in a terrible tragedy, or another BS background story."
Clearly the networks are struggling to find decent new concepts to develop
ReplyDeleteWell if Almost Human was any indication of how well a sci-fi drama would work out for FOX then...well...
ReplyDeletelet's see if they get Tom Cruise to guest star, his latest theatrical adventures performed poorly at the Box Office.
ReplyDeleteI would actually love to see Oblivion sequeled as a series!
a sequel without any of the cast from MR won't work.....you need to bring Cruise in even if it just a cameo
ReplyDeleteMR is one of my favourite sci-fi films I'm not sure it needs a sequel let alone a TV series without the excellent cast.
ReplyDeleteI really loved the movie and I love the concept so I think there is a lot of potential there. However, as I've said when the project was first announced, I still worry about how redudant this show will feel since we have the excellent Person of Interest now. There is probably room for another spin on the concept but they have to be careful with the way they do it to avoid the similarities.
ReplyDeleteThis being said, I will still give it a shot most likely if/when it comes to reality and I think FOX is probably the best broadcaster to something like this.
Yeah that's very true. Well I'm not judging it just feels too soon. I loved Fringe and was so thankful that it got the ending it deserved but to be fair Fringe started out okay then just slowly depleted on ratings. Would love more legit Sci-Fi on tv but I think they need to cool it with the futuristic ones a bit.
