Legends took a break this week from the Verax storyline to explore a new case of the week – or more likely two or more weeks, as the bad guys succeeded in their assassination plot of the Saudi oil minister and still remain at large.Although this episode didn’t have as much movement as the past three shows, I liked it well enough. The most noteworthy development was a change in Agent Tony Rice’s role. He was transferred against Gates’ wishes to DCO, where we saw him work alongside of Martin, rather than against him for a change. The two characters had an entertaining dynamic with a subtle back-and-forth power struggle as they tried to one-up each other and take charge over the case. They may be on the same team now, but all’s not forgotten yet.
Meanwhile, Martin got closer to Sonya after she made a case for reuniting. We were also introduced to Martin’s favorite legend – a writer, drinker, and disillusioned socialist by the name of Sebastian Egan.
The episode was a step back from the forward movement in recent weeks of learning more about Verax and Martin’s time in Iraq. In fact, it literally moved things backward as Gates planted doubt in Martin’s mind that what Dobson told him was true. Gates supplied the group picture of Martin, Evans, and McCombs and told Martin that it was analyzed and determined to be a fake.
I didn’t mind the step back from the Verax storyline so much, though, as I’ve been satisfied with the pace so far. My one nitpick was the use of flashbacks to remind us of Jibril picking up information dropped by her informant Aaron Rawley – an event that had happened in the show probably not even five minutes earlier. I like the flashblacks to illustration Martin’s confusion over this lost memories, but my memory is fine. This technique could become annoying if overused for recapping.
We’re up to episode 7 in a 10-episode season, meaning we have 3 more to wrap things up for the first season. Any predictions for the finale? How do you think this show will end?
This episode was a step back indeed, but the Verax plot will come back into play soon enough. That will probably also be the focus of the two-part finale. I just hope it doesn't end in a cliffhanger because I don't believe its ratings are that great.

ReplyDeleteyes it will all come to a head in the finale where i also expext Martin to find out about his wife and his boss i feel they only have the answers he needs.
ReplyDeleteWith the last 2 first-season shows that I reviewed, I was convinced they were going to be cancelled, but they were renewed. I'm hoping for 3 out of 3. I'm really enjoying this one. It's not perfect, but it's a fun hour and it has potential to get better.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm expecting that at least one of those two (probably Sonya) will come out soon. Martin can't start to believe that he was really in Iraq and not start to realize that she's been lying to him. I'm guessing the big question we'll be left with is what Verax was trying to cover up with all of this.
