BEVERLY HILLS, CA - SEPTEMBER 2, 2014 - The Netflix Original Series "Hemlock Grove," from Gaumont International Television, a riveting and eerie mystery from executive producer Eli Roth and based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, has been picked up for a third and final season. Showrunner Charles H. (Chic) Eglee will return for the ten-episode final season which is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2015.
“We are so grateful to the fans of ‘Hemlock Grove’ who have championed the series so intensely over two seasons,” said executive producer Eli Roth. “We are looking forward to taking the last and final season into some dark and unexpected places, and to giving viewers the killer finale you’d come to expect from ‘Hemlock Grove.’”

Knowing it will be our last, gives us the opportunity to go out in a mushroom cloud of clever and soul shattering mayhem. The second season launched on Netflix in July 2014 to a tremendous outpouring from fans. In the second season, the town of Hemlock Grove continued to come to grips with the shocking massacre incurred by one of its deadliest creatures. Roman (Bill Skarsgård) and Peter (Landon Liboiron) faced new responsibilities and the realities that come with adulthood. Roman struggled with his relationship with his mother (Famke Janssen) as he wrestled with his unwanted Upir birthright and the disappearance of his sister, Shelley (Madeleine Martin). Peter moved in with Destiny (Kaniehtiio Horn) and was forced to get a job after his mother was sent away. Meanwhile, in search of a new life, newcomer Miranda Cates (Madeline Brewer), embarked on Hemlock Grove with an unknowingly profound effect on Peter and Roman. And Norman (Dougray Scott), still reeling from the loss of his family, faced the harsh truth about those he loved.
The second season starred Famke Janssen (Olivia Godfrey), Bill Skarsgård (Roman Godfrey), Landon Liboiron (Peter Rumancek), Dougray Scott (Dr. Norman Godfrey), Madeleine Martin (Shelley Godfrey), Madeline Brewer (Miranda Cates), Kaniehtiio Horn (Destiny Rumancek), Joel de la Fuente (Dr. Johann Pryce) and Demore Barnes (Michael Chasseur).
The drama series is the first foray into television by internationally acclaimed horror master Eli Roth ("Hostel," "Cabin Fever"). It was developed by Brian McGreevy & Lee Shipman and is executive produced by Roth, Eglee, McGreevy & Shipman, Eric Newman and Michael Connolly. The one-hour gothic thriller is produced by Gaumont International Television for Netflix.

Is this show worth watching? I have read mixed reviews about it. I love horror tv shows so I was curious about this. Is it more like Bates Motel or Hannibal or it's another crappy show that pretends to be horror like American Horror Story Coven?

ReplyDeleteI don't like AHS: Coven but I actually love Hemlock Grove. It is just weird and surreal and campy, it *knows* it's campy and it's not nearly as terrible as people make it out to be. Leaps better than TWD.

ReplyDeleteit's really good. it has some ...feel to it ? similar to AHS but it doesn't /try/ to be AHS. It's its own type of show. It's campy, creepy at times, shocking at other times, boring sometimes and all around...a show that doesn't take itself...at least too entirely serious?

From what I saw on tumblr I thought it was more straight up horror and I had no idea it was kind of campy but it's good to know.

Yea I Love this Hemlock Grove also. For me I love the weird. And I don't find it one bit confusing, I understand the subtle hints and deeper meanings in the show.
ReplyDeleteHannibal is superior to all three, it's a masterpiece to the genre. Bates Motel is average. American Horror Story: Coven was absolutely horrible and not in a good way.
ReplyDeleteHemlock Grove, in my opinion lies somewhere between Hannibal and Bates Motel. It's nowhere near a masterpiece, but I think it's better than just average. I suppose 'good' fits best. Some aspects of the show are poorly done while others get it just right. It's really up to taste, it certainly has its flaws.
It's campy for sure. It definitely isn't a Glee. It's actually refreshing in that it's not so much one of those shows revolving around 'teen angst'.

ReplyDeleteIn some of the original interviews (which feels like AGES AGO) they kind of hinted it would be around three seasons, I think it only was ever going to be more if it was hugely, hugely popular. From how people talk it seems like the viewership for season two was down significantly... I wonder if that's the case. Nevertheless, it's very encouraging that Netflix's first supernatural/horror series will be concluded with a real ending, and it definitely ups the likelihood of me investing time in Netflix series.
